Hey, thanks for watching and the compliment. Seriously. I'm not huge on TNT for some reason, but I really like Tyketto and Baton Rouge. Love Danger Danger as well, though they were almost kind of big for a while.
The 2 that immediately spring to mind are Shotgun Messiah and Tygertailz. They have something in common: both released strong debut albums then changed lead singers (which radically altered their sound) for their follow-up albums. Tygertailz got a little bit of a boost recently when their song "Love Bomb Baby" was used by James Gunn in the superhero show Peacemaker (the soundtrack of which featured quite a few forgotten hair metal gems). I'd also throw in D'Molls, Bang Tango, Enuff Z'Nuff, and KINGOFTHEHILL.
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting. A lot of people are commenting about Shotgun Messiah, and I LOVE that band. Big on Tigertailz as well, and I have albums from all of the other bands you listed--D'molls, Bang Tango, EZN, and Kingofthehill. I would bet you'll see something from some of these bands down the line.
The Funny thing is the Shotgun Messiah vocalist who sang on I don't Wanna Live without You and wrote most of the songs when he wasn't their vocalist Tim Skold totally rebranded himself and ended up being a major producer with Marilyn Manson, KMFDM and other industrial acts. He also played live in Manson's band.
Those 2 D.A.D. albums are incredible...No Fuel is one of my favorite albums of all time...Riskin it all was a great follow up....i actually like Turn of the Screw better than Cool from the Wire but both albums are great... awesome vid man...happy i found your channel
Great video! I could definitely watch 5 more videos like this. Other bands I feel are in this category: Shark Island, Hurricane, Asphalt Ballet, Gotthard, Junkyard, Sea Hags, Slik Toxik … love your channel Guru! Keep it up!
Hey, Brian, thanks a ton for watching and the kind words. Seriously, I do appreciate it. I have a lot of history with all of those bands except for Gotthard, who I know of, but I need to explore their stuff more. LOVE Junkyard, Shark Island, and Hurricane, and I do like some of Asphalt Ballet, Slik Toxic, and Sea Hags. Thanks again.
absolutely fantastic topic dude! great selection of bands you've gone with here, I'm especially big on Dirty Looks, Roxy Blue, DAD, Wildside and Sleeze Beez. how Stranger Than Paradise wasn't a massive hit, I'll never know! keep up the great work
Im actually really good friends with all the Bangalore guys .. I talk to David and John Kirk all the time. Do yourself a favor, look up a band called RAZORMAID, it was John and Curt's band before Bangalore.. fucking amazing!!!! The bunnies called "First Cutt"
Hey, thanks a lot for watching and for the kind words. I LOVE Julliet. And I have that Noisy Mama album, though I can't remember much except for "Heart of Stone" at the moment, but I dig that song. Thanks again...
Just found your channel last week. Great stuff so far, I'm the same age and have most of the albums you have talked about. Finally someone talking about the bands I love.Keep up the good work
Dirty looks is one of my favorite all time grit bands. Henrick's favorite vocalist was Udo from Accept. Listen to the chorus of No Brains Child (Cool From The Wire) A friend of mine and I got all pissed up in 1991 and called directory assistance for NYC looking for Henricks phone number, and we got it. His cousin who was apartment sitting for him answered and talked to us for about 20 minutes. She said the main reason she was at his place while he was on the road was to take care of his fish. Dude was way into saltwater aquariums. God Bless her as we were calling from the west coast at about 1AM and she still answered the phone in her time zone. We were idiots, but I don't regret that call.
I thought I'd heard about all the 80s hair metal bands back in the day, but over the past few years thanks to RUclips I've discovered I'd only just hit the tip of the iceberg! It's definitely hard to find some of these CDs at an affordable price.
I agree totally. For some reason the other band Joel Ellis sang in Cats in Boots makes it on all these type lists but you rarely see Heavy Bones and I personally think the Heavy Bones record is way better than anything Cats in Boots did especially with Gary Hoey on guitar.
Wildside should have been HUGE!! I remember going into my local mall and hearing “Just Another Night” playing over the speakers in the record store before the release of the album and begging the guy to sell me the one he had. Every song was amazing.
Babylon ad first cd was their best but slave your body is their best song. I saw them twice in san Diego in 89 totally awesome. Bang go the bells ,Marianne back in babylon need i say more
You nailed it with all of these albums! Great reviews for sure. My favorites from this period that would fit on this list would be Salty Dog - Every Dog Has Its Day , Junkyard - self titled debut and Shotgun Messiah- Second Coming. There was a ton of great music that came out at the end of the 80’s / early 90’s. It’s a shame that a lot of it fell through the cracks in the mainstream after the explosion of grunge.
Hey, thanks for watching and for the compliment. I'm absolutely with you on Junkyard and Shotgun Messiah. Love those bands. I have the Salty Dog album, it hasn't grabbed me as much as others--I need to revisit that one.
Agree with the whole list. 1 album I would have added is Blue Tears S/T. IMO Blue Tears while not reinventing the wheel by any stretch have some of the absolute best hooks and addicting choruses of any 80s rock album and there 2 Suncity demo compilations are PHENOMENAL. Lead singer Greg Fulkerson (RIP) deserves so much more recognition. One of my top 10 bands without a doubt.
@@HairMetalGuru419 would love to see Blue Tears get some recognition on your channel:) Melidian, Juliet, Gypsy Rose, Smashed Gladys, Tigertailz, Dangerous Toys and Vain to name a few others that deserve more love and recognition imo.
Great points and analysis on a few of the more obscure bands of the genre. You should do a video about some of the heavier bands in the glam metal spectrum like Halloween, Seduce, Creature, Krank, Odin, London, Geisha, Vain, Sweet Poison, Lust, Glamour Punks, Wikked Gypsy, The Ultras, Salems Lott, VV Invasion, Madam X, EZO, Loudness, X Japan, Roxx Gang, Wrathchild (UK), Tigertailz, Peppermint Creeps, Willow Wisp, Murderdolls, The Midnight Devils, Astrovamps, etc.
I can tell you appreciate the music and know what you’re talking about. Wild Side for me was the one that stuck out the most cuz every single song even the blues instrumental is solid. I feel you could’ve elaborated more about them cause there’s so much to say; but maybe next time. Child’s Play’s first album is also another great one you should mentioned. 🤘🎶
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! And, yes, you are correct, Tuff is great! Thanks for the support, seriously....
I recently found u channel and whar caught my attention was u support of Lillian Axe because I have many memories of the years with Ron Taylor from his time with Bittersweet, to Stiff, then Lillian Axe, The Bridge, and most recently Ron and Darren Delatt still play together abd re ord together . Ron has one of the best voices and is a great performer. He still sounds great now a days as well. It is a shane because of lack of support from 2 re ord companies and many people missed out on o e of the best hair bands ever. RIP Jon.
I also love the lesser known bands just as much as the bigger name bands. I grew up in Montgomery Alabama and use to watch McQueen Street in the clubs. I still have all of these tapes you mentioned in my collection, as well as Vain, Roxx Gang, Pretty Boy Floyd, Heavy Bones, Vongroove, Babylon A.D., Southgang, Sweet F.A., Heavens Edge, Trouble Tribe, Y&T, Coldsweat, Tattoo Rodeo, and Shotgun Messiah just to name a few. Lol. All of these bands other than Y&T either all came out a little too late in the game or right around the same time as some of the heavyweights released albums.
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! Amazing you got to see McQueen Street back in the day... I wish. I love most of those bands you listed, brother, and some will be showing up soon...
I won a free copy of Roxy Blue's "Want Some" on cassette, from a raffle, when WRCN was at Uncle Phil's record store in Shirley NY. That album is awesome. I still have that cassette. I wanted to add to your list, the "Shake Your Soul" album by Baton Rouge should have been huge. It came out during the boom, and it's one of my favorite albums of that era. I know it's not quite as obscure as others, but still nowhere near as big as it should have been. I feel the same way about Tyketto's "Don't Come Easy" album. I could probably come up with 20 other ones, but those two immediately popped into my mind. Johnny Crash was really cool, and is anyone familiar with "Thrill Hungry, Kick Happy, Restless and Willing" by the band Rights of the Accused? Phenomenal shit.
Hey, thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I really like Baton Rouge, Tyketto and Johnny Crash. I actually had not heard of Rights of the Accused, so I just listened to that album today... good call!
@@HairMetalGuru419 Rights of the Accused is such a unique band. They're melodic, heavy, and rowdy, and sort of punky, and sometimes silly, but also dark, and shit-kicky. I love it. I think it's really awesome that you gave it a spin. I dig your channel. I dig your passion for this music. I was sold when I saw the big Not Fakin' It poster behind you. Rock on brother!!
I agree with all but one of these and there are a ton more I would add, like Sweet F.A., Sons of Angels, The Scream, Tora Tora, Junkyard, The Four Horsemen, Wild Boyz, Child's Play, Silent Rage, and Hardline
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! I love most of those bands you listed, and they'll probably get brought up soon...
Back in '88, I was still a big fan of AC/DC. I remember Kurt Loder (sp?) on MTV Music News mentioning Dirty Looks' Cool From The Wire, describing as sounding like AC/DC. Without hearing a single, I bought the album. No regrets. Currently own most of their discography. Still a few gaps to fill.
Excellent video. Others to consider maybe for a future video . . . Blue Tears, Melidian, Baton Rouge, Hardline and Kane Roberts' "Saints and Sinners" album.
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! I covered Blue Tears in the 2nd edition of this, and plan on covering Hardline in my next video!
Oh my f’n god. This is my favorite video of the year thusfar. I just discovered it! ELECTRIC ANGELS was my first live interview ever!!! And I once got suspended from my radio station bc Henrik got me drunk on air (I was not yet 21) when they released the turn of the screw album! And it’s AHH STERGARD. Not Ohstergard. Ruling video bro!
Great video, but you shouldn't use the term "hair metal" It wasn't used back in the day & was only created after to disparage the music. Which is (and always was) hard rock. Look at it like this. If 4 guys that looked like you started a band that sounded exactly like Electric Angels or any of the other bands mentioned in this video what would you call the music?
Both LE MANS albums are excellent. Slightly different styles. As expected from Mike Varney, the first "On the Streets" 1983 on Shrapnel is scrappier, shreddier and harder. The second self-titled from 1986 is classic melodic glam metal. Other obscure-ish favorites (those that I have a copy) include BANG TANGO, JUNKYARD (not "House"), SEAHAGS, BATON ROUGE, PRINCESS PANG, MADAM-X, SWEET F.A., WAR BABIES and XYZ, whose stock has been rising a lot recently, as has ENUFF'Z'NUFF.. Another shout-out to JULLIET mentioned below. I found I had a cassette of their first album, unawares for many years- not listed in Discogs.
Hey, thanks a lot for watching and commenting. I know of Le Mans, but I need to revisit their stuff. Lot of great bands you listed, especially Junkyard, Sweet FA, Sea Hags, Bang Tango, and Madam X. Need to revisit Princess Pang and War Babies. XYZ always kind of escaped me, but I love their ballad "Souvenirs."
I was unfamiliar with the D.A.D. album you mentioned, but in high school we had a Danish foreign exchange student who brought his copy of "Riskin' It All" with him, and he let me borrow it at one point. I thought it was a pretty solid hard rock album with a bit of country influence. I never see their stuff in the wild, but at some point I happened across a copy of their 2005 album "Scare Yourself" in a cardboard sleeve format. I picked it up, and again it's solid. WildSide seems like a band out of time, but they came out at the end of that hair metal era and didn't quite get in under the wire. When I got to college in '96, the local rock radio station still had "Hang On Lucy" in semi-regular rotation, so I got to hear it a number of times. Great tune.
Hey, thanks a lot for watching and for sharing what you did, seriously. Hope you check out "No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims" now. Wow, that's crazy that a station was playing Wildside on '96, very cool.
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! I talked about Southgang in the 2nd episode of this topic, and I LOVE Kik Tracee...
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! And you're right, I guess it was their debut on a major label, but I know of the earlier releases you're talking about...
I have those Tuff, Rhinobucket and D.A.D records, they're all good. The Tuff one is quite rare now. D. A. D has been the biggest band in Denmark for about 50 years!
The Vinnie Vincent Invasion were great. “The Invasion” we called them. The band ran into some of the problems with Vinnie that Chaim and Stan had. Shame.
Excellent list cool video. My friend Jerry who was a Polygram Executive was involved in management with Electric Angels. Candy was an amazing band. They were more power pop than Electric Angels traditional hair metal sound. Jonathan Daniel was the main songwriter. Kyle Vincent was lead vocalist on the Whatever Happened to Fun album. Brilliant album and some great tracks. The Last Radio Show is one of the better lengthy change of pace pop ballads. Kyle Vincent left Candy because he wanted to make music more in the vein of Barry Manilow who was his favorite singer. He has released many light rock records over the years and a Manilow tribute record. He has a fantastic voice. Gilby Clarke of GNR and Ryan Roxie who is Alice Cooper's guitar player for many years were also in the band at one point. Jonathan Daniel went on to have a very successful management company managing acts like Fall out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Train, and many others. Very few people mention Electric Angels these days so nice to see.
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! And, wow, thanks for all the great info. I've seen some of Kyle's solo stuff and you're spot on about that. Anyway, really appreciate you watching, seriously.
When dirty looks got signed I was on the same scene. My band or Harpo is supposed to be the next band that got signed and it was right about the time that they stopped signing bands from Pennsylvania. The scene had been all played out after they got Cinderella and Brittany Fox. Heinrich Osterguard was a really cool dude. He would drink a beer with anyone that sat next to him at the bar. Tremendous club band. Cant believe you started off with them. Bad timing to get signed then. The shitty deals bands were signing were their death certificates. And "Heinrich" is the bame you were mis pronouncing. His kast name was the second variation you said, soft "O". But come one mab. You dony know how to pronounce Heinrich?
What I understand about McQueen Street 2 is they recorded it, but the record company didn't like it and the genre was dying (or dead), so it was shelved. I'm not sure if that is accurate, but I will tell you what is accurate. The reason it was released in 2003 is because dollar signs lit up in the eyes of the band. At the time, a band called Puddles of Mud (the band that had a huge hit with Blurry) released their second single/video for a song called "She Hates Me" that was a fairly big hit, where the singer was wearing a McQueen Street shirt. Folks started asking "Who is McQueen Street?" The singer of Puddles of Mud addressed it, saying it was one of his favorites bands "back in the day." Of course, with one of the hottest current bands, who just scored two big hits in a row, plugging McQueen Street like this, the band "remerged." I believe McQueen Street spent a moment fighting for the rights to get control of that album, then released it, I think, about a year later or so. It seemed like an attempt to capitalize off that sudden push by Puddles of Mud.
Stryper's Against the Law didn't sell well due to them dropping the yellow and black stripes and change in lyrical content. Impellitteri 90s releases like Grin and Bear It and Answer to the Master had a mainly Japanese only distribution that North American fans had to import. One of my favorite releases from 1988 Joshua Intense Defense was shelved by RCA Records and is an excellent Melodic Hard Rock. Joshua Perahia is an underrated guitarist. You should check out that album. Rob Rock (Impellitteri, solo, MARS Project Driver) sang lead vocals.
One band that I don't think you've mentioned at all in any videos, a band from.Arizona from the early /mid 80s called ICON. If you aren't aware of them, you should be!! By far one of the best bands from that era, that band should have been MASSIVE!! The debut album (self titled) and their second album "Night of the Crime" are flawless. Would love for you to do some videos on them.
Some bands I would add to your great list would be Tyketto, Bangaloir Choir, Neverland was a very cool little to late band. Von Groove, Unruly Child was great Mark Free great singer. Hurricane had a great album with Kelly Hansen now the foreigner singer for many years. Harem Scarem was incredible but they were pretty huge in Canada. Heaven's Edge, Saints and Sinners if Hair Metal only had 5 more years all your bands and these bands could have been the next wave. Instead we got Nirvana lol
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! I love a lot of those bands you listed--some will end up showing up in a video soon...
Dude! You've said Dirty Looks didn't record any ballads but they did record one called "The Last Forever" that wasn't officially released until "The Worst of Dirty Looks." Definitely on my top 5 best ballads of all time list! It's on RUclips, but there are 2 versions and one is way better and heavier than the other. Check it out and let me know your opinion!!
They are good , few really great , but generation , you can't expect after " Teen Spirit " oct.1991.and Pantera " Vulgar Display " rise of new glam /hair metal bands . Bon Jovi survived because of 1200 .legion of girls! Zeitgeist - Spirit of Time - like Hegel said 200. years ago .
You gotta mention the band HEAVENS EDGE..released their first album in 1990 and everything got put on hold because some nut shot the bass player (GG) at one of their shows..by the time he recovered the record label left them behind because grundge was on its way.
gillen and jake hated each other. their feud played out in magazines when they were still playing together. there is a show on youtube where you actually hear them arguing about it on stage. very bad ending to the band...and then years later with gillen's passing. the songs he performed on sacred groove by george lynch are fantastic.
DAD was my jam BITD and one other person knew who they were, he actually had the full title release from Denmark. They weren’t hair metal at all to me, more post punk glam or some shit. Totally rad
I refer to 1982 as the Grungepocalypse. So many great bands got screwed by the Seattle sound, which I thought sucked! Grunge is what helped lead rock to ruin.
For someone who calls themselves the Guru and claims they know more than anybody about Dirty Looks you should know that Cool From The Wire is their FOURTH album.....
Dude, for someone who needs to know, as you apparently must... when I'm talking about albums I'm generally talking about their major label/national releases. Hope this helps, Cupcake.
Hardline, Danger Danger, XYZ, Badlands, Blue Murder

Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! And, yes, you are correct, Tuff is great! Thanks for the support, seriously....
Smashed Gladys= Social Intercourse, Seduce= Too Much Ain’t Enough, and Vain= No Respect (and rest of catalog) are all underrated classics.
I mentioned Vain in the 2nd series of this topic. LOVE Smashed Gladys... need to revisit Seduce. Thanks a lot for watching!
Sweet F.A. "Stick To Your Guns"
GREAT album.
sweet fa belong in the category of great first album, terrible follow up.
Junkyard
LOVE Junkyard.
I have lots of these bands
The Roxy Blue S/T from 2019 is more than just singer Todd Poole. It's 3/4 of the original band minus guitarist Sid Fletcher. 🎸 😎
Thanks for filling me in... ;-)
Cool from the wire is the only 80s album that I can listen to on repeat to this very day.
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! Cool From the Wire is such an amazing album....
Baton Rouge
Babylon AD
War Babies
I dig these 3! They may show up somewhere down the line. Thanks for watching!
You just named all my forgotten favorites ❤
Awesome! And thanks for watching!
Yes, great band. Hopefully you've gotten into Rhino Bucket along the line as well. Hey, thanks for watching...
I'm starting to listen to all the releases of Dirty Looks, and it's a pretty good band after all !
Glad you're checking them out! And thanks a ton for watching, seriously.
@@HairMetalGuru419 You should talk about Danger Danger too, i love this band..
Spread Eagle/Johnny Crash/Bang Tango
Anyone know Why Rip IT Out is the only cd by DIRTY LOOKS not available on RUclips or🎃 anywhere actually
I don't think they own the rights.
I was 15 in 1980 say no more grew up on cheesy kiss then in 79 rock grew balls till 85
Never liked hair metal much but love me some king diamond!!!!!!
Haha, cheesy KISS was never my favorite, but I do love KISS. Thanks for watching....
I loved rhino bucket I went to thier first album release party. Great sings and great guts
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! Wow, awesome you went to the RB release party... fuckin' epic.
McQueen Street should have been HUGE, man. They're great. Loved their debut.
Honorable Mention for this list, for me, would be Southgang and Kik Tracee
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! I talked about Southgang in the 2nd episode of this topic, and I LOVE Kik Tracee...
Dirty Looks is a brilliant band! But Cool from the wire isn't their debut album.
Hey, sorry for the late response, but thanks a ton for watching and commenting! And you're right, I guess it was their debut on a major label, but I know of the earlier releases you're talking about...
Lillian Axe!!! ❤❤❤ Give me that shirt! 😊
Come and get it. ;-)
@@HairMetalGuru419 patiently waiting for your dokken review 😊
@@jessiodos74 What Dokken review is it that you are clamoring for?
@@HairMetalGuru419 any and all of their albums!! 😁😁😁
I have those Tuff, Rhinobucket and D.A.D records, they're all good. The Tuff one is quite rare now. D. A. D has been the biggest band in Denmark for about 50 years!
TRES Cool=Lillian Axe!!
The Vinnie Vincent Invasion were great. “The Invasion” we called them. The band ran into some of the problems with Vinnie that Chaim and Stan had. Shame.
Hey, I'm a VVI fan! Vinnie's gone a little of the rails lately, but no doubt very talented. Thanks for watching man...
Saraya When the Blackbird Sings 1991 release top vocals and guitars are awesome.
That Roxy Blue album was terrific.
“All New Generation” was the first single/video from Tuff. I have my old vhs tapes dated and it was released first.
No offense, but that's incorrect.
@@anthonybryant3038 agreed.
How much do you know about Dirty Looks?
Remember The Four Horsemen? Their album rocked hard.
2 bands you forgot: Julliet & Slammin’ Gladys!!
LOVE Julliet. I have the Slammin' Gladys album, I need to revisit that one. Hey, thanks for watching...
Julliet will be featured in part II of hair metal bands that got screwed over. Premieres tonight!

Bangalore Choir 1992
LOVE Bangalore Choir. They may show up in a video somewhere soon...
Trouble tribe
Well, cant wait for you to blow my mind MF! I need a new old band
I'm here to help! Recording a new episode with 10 more bands tonight....
how about Firehouse
Excellent band, but their first album is double platinum and tbe second one went gold, so I would disqualify them from this "got screwed" topic. 🎸😎🎵
@@michaelhenderson5946 Exactly.
Brazilian fan page my brother!
I absolutely love Sleeze Beeze !
Another good one is a glam rock band called circus awesome band
I know of them, I need to revisit!
The Roxy Blue album was awesome but came out just a little too late.
Badlands first album 1989 2nd album VooDoo HighWay 1991 both rocking albums, sadly they disbanded with frontman Ray Gillen dying from Aids in 1993.
gillen and jake hated each other. their feud played out in magazines when they were still playing together. there is a show on youtube where you actually hear them arguing about it on stage. very bad ending to the band...and then years later with gillen's passing. the songs he performed on sacred groove by george lynch are fantastic.
I really liked teeze. 🎵 Sex and Drugs, Rock and Roll, the only things that ive ever sold 🎵
I need to revisit that one....
I think most here will know them already but '' smashed gladys '' weren't that famous, a great acdc style band
Roxy blue times changing the as great song good album .
Pretty boy Floyd fun band
Dirty looks is good
For someone who calls themselves the Guru and claims they know more than anybody about Dirty Looks you should know that Cool From The Wire is their FOURTH album.....
Dude, for someone who needs to know, as you apparently must... when I'm talking about albums I'm generally talking about their major label/national releases. Hope this helps, Cupcake.
