Being fair, the main character is mentally ill, like that's what triggers the whole story, so it makes sense that he's more accepting of all that stuff than a normal person.
I guess from his perspective he's surrounded by disgusting monsters that he's afraid will lock him up in a padded cell if they find out what's actually wrong with him and the only solace he gets is being inside his nightmare house with his eldritch gf.
His condition messes up his perception, not his mental capacity. At the beginning he shows enough awareness to understand his perception is false, so while we can sympathise with the hellish scape his existence is it doesn't come close to justifying many of his actions.
man, reading saya no uta in my childhood is a blast. my first introduction to visual novels is Moero downhill night, as a guy with limited access to internet back then this is like the safe haven for prons for me. even though the pc is in the living room my parents didnt really suspect me of playing such games lmao. i just know when to stop reading it and continue reading it when they're asleep. VNs is such a culture, it really made me my child self like reading.
Current day people cant read a long visual novel, the brain rot doesnt allow them to read for more than 5 hours max. They will never experience an Umineko or Rewrite. This is sad.
Golden Fantasia (the Umineko Tag Fighter) exists for a reason. If the characters or setting vibe with you it gives you an incentive to read the source material.
I just don't like the visual novel format. Not my preference, but I'm sure there is one out there that could get me into it. I'd just prefer the story telling in an jRPG format or like Persona. I'm interested in Kara no Shoujo though.
Honestly this is the best one to try out if you never played vns before. I think one of the newest ones Paranormasight is also very good as a starter vn. Good story, good art and not long (for those who don't want 100+ hours vn). There are some rabbit holes like Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, Zero Escape, etc. Or something close to vn (but not a vn) and crazy like 13 Sentinels where your brain is going to be cooked with everything that is going on there. But it is one of the most impressive ones for sure.
asking for a visual novel that is literally a book to be more digestible is the most brainrot shit i've heard yall will never be able to handle honkai impact 3rd that is a 3d visual novel with gameplay and has over 200+ hours of story and still getting more chapters

Tbh I think Saya no Uta is a good game to get someone not into visual novels hooked; it's short, shocking, and intriguing. Take into account how these guys think the beginning of ddlc is slow and annoying; he would not like most visual novels.
im guessing its good as a first because its digestible and easy to understand for the amount of time one plays it, which is relatively short compared to many intimidatingly long vns for a vn newbie.
i watched someone play saya no uta on youtube, can confirm its a pretty good and shocking introduction to visual novels. i was randomly recommended saya no uta ost and i thought this looked cool and checked it out man was i shook
Reading the title: “Conner was forced to play Saya no Uta”, *blinks* "Dude, no you didn't!" *clicks on video* 😆 Oh God, Connor's not gonna like it. It was my 1st horror visual novel after I played DMMD. Then I played Animamundi: Dark Alchemist. No regrets whatsoever
I really like Says No Uta for it’s way of storytelling and world building but it was hard to sympathize with any character because they all made incredibly poor decisions. I was also left with more questions than answers and I got to see all the endings. I also believed this VN works perfectly without the adult scenes, I played the incredibly censored version and I thought it did well without it.
to this day my favorite VN is katawa shoujo, mostly bc at the time when i read/played it, i was recently also diagnosed with a severe version of arrhythmia and funnily enough i had a friend with no arms
YES CONNOR Saya No Uta is so good for how short it is. I've been feeling this for a long time, but I just want to get this off my chest and warn anyone who wants to understand or try Visual Novels. Visual novels are catered towards people who really want more emotional attachment / impact from anime in general. (Characters, story, music) It feels like a lot of anime and video games come out with some very unique ideas but are unable to execute a full experience. Anime but ESPECIALLY video games have been getting a lot of mainstream attention but because of that are converting to corporate practices with every consecutive year. Unfortunately, it's inevitable at this point. (Micro-transactions, unfinished games on launch, poor optimization, etc.) (Time-crunches, lack of funding, inflation, shorter episodic formats, 24ep > 12ep > 11ep) IMO, this really hinders the storytelling/pacing & character development for Anime. But it is getting better in some ways though. Visual Novels are ALMOST the right medium to merge books, LN, & Anime while retaining almost pretty much everything. At least, more than half of the ones I've read blows EVERYTHING away Anime has to offer except animation quality. And I've barely scratched 5% of the genre. Only caveat is: 1. You have to invest so much of your life for Visual Novels 2. Harem... 3. Sometimes self-fulfillment, self-insert generic, passive MC's 4. "SEKS" sells so be prepared to find a lot of adlut content. Rant over
@maho9139 Glad you're interested. These are my favorites. I'll keep this short if you are looking for recommendations. 1. Muv-Luv Trilogy (Muv-Luv Extra > Muv-Luv Unlimited > Muv-Luv Alternative. Avoid researching too much due to spoilers.) 2. Utawarerumono Trilogy (I'd recommend playing Prelude to the Fallen first, then Utawarerumono Mask of Deception to Mask of Truth. But if Prelude is too slow for you, then perhaps play MoD, MoT to get straight into the action. And hold off on PttF for backstory/lore if you want.) 3. Saya no Uta 4. The House in Fata Morgana 5. 999 series 6. Raging Loop ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ That's it for now. Muv-Luv and Utawarerumono are heavily character and story-driven. Best worldbuilding in the VN genre. They are slow burns. But if you can see them through to the end; it'll be worth it. If you're not heavy into reading, I'd recommend Saya no Uta, 999 series for beginners.
What is this shit about the beginning of a Visual Novel is too slow because you are meeting the girls etc? That's called the common route for a reason, it's literally the good part before you choose one girl to pursue and all the other characters, and comedic elements, drop off the map. I know the fact you have to replay it for every route (unless you save scum) might wear thin after awhile, but lots of VNs have exceedingly pleasant common routes and beginnings.
At least make him play a good visual novel. Maybe Majikoi or Grisaia or even Higurashi/Umineko. Why Saya no Uta? EDIT: I guess in terms of good visual novels that get right into the action and are fairly short, I Walk Among Zombies would've been a great choice.
Probably because other than the actual content of Saya itself it’s one of the easiest visual novels to get into. It’s short, art is fine, interesting premise, and thrusts people right into the action. I definitely feel like if Connor had to read something with a slow start his eyes would glaze over.
@@mp4blue And VNs are simply not for everyone, some people already complain about Steins;Gate being too slow so imagine them reading the VN for it, and considering their reactions and opinions about this one, it is very clear they wouldn't be able to take several hours of 'fluff' dialogue that are in most VNs.
Because they each had like just 1-2 hours for anything picked in this format? Do you think 1-2 hours into Majikoi or Grisaia would translate to anything worth having a discussion about?
First VN I played was Maggot baits and enjoyed it, idk why ppl play Song of Saya when ite obvious front the genre and cover what game it is. Like imagine playing an ero guro game and complaining about it being ero guro
...Just admit you either don't have time/cannot manage your time to read a novel anymore. Why would you even call it a "Visual Novel" anymore if it's short af?... Sure, you have light novel that span 30 volume and can read through that but cannot save a visual novel and come back to it like so? Unironically living up to their podcast name ffs... No wonder why the market these days are either 2-3 hours VN that barely has anything worthwhile beside the barebone boring repetitive settings or R18 illustration fest. Nobody has the attention span to sit down and read anymore. Imagine these guys sitting through a game like Majikoi, that spans multiple entries with a routes chart that can look like 5 family trees.
I have those literal same thoughts but with books instead of visuals novels. Gamers can't get into vns unless gameplay, vn readers/gamers can't get into books because multiple routes they need or find it hard to read something without voice acting, music, or visuals. To each their own but hey, everyone has a different level of patience and tolerance so that in of itself is respectable if at least not agreeable.
Yeah, too little long vns comes out nowadays, it sucks :v I'm okay with short, but much prefer the behemoth sized ones, and bruh... And it's so fun when they're choke full of dead ends and alternative routes! Really shows how serious the situation is(for the deadly ones), usually.
Chill, jeez can't people have their own opinion anymore? If they don't like VNs then what's the big deal? I love horror but not a lot enjoy this genre, I'm not bashing them to the ground and trash on their attention span? You VN stans need to chill af
@@Kate2102360 Problem is not that. There's a difference between a person not liking or having no patience for vns(which is fine, not for them), and a person bashing vns because they're "too long" and "all vns should be short, this shit is boring, lol" even though they're the ones who went for long ones when it's not for them :v What happened is more the 2nd one there :v One is just a person's taste, the other is an offense towards vns and those who read them, specially enjoyers of long ones :v And that the market nowadays has too little long ones, and people's attention span only shrinks is true tho. Regardless of the connection to being unable to read vns, that's a very real problem nowadays, and you shouldn't discredit its seriousness just because you think it's silly or overblown. U have any idea how hard it is to gave a conversation with anyone who uses a lot of short form content(tiktok etc)? Its hell, they keep getting distracted even when its work related or very serious and can barely understand what you say a lot of the time :v I'd say being unable to sit down and read a vn or a book is one of the smallest problems about it... :v

People complaining about the boy's take on visual novels when they haven't picked up any book at a library. I went through alot of adventure novels as a kid, then picked up some romcoms/drama as a teen. Joey we know already played a good amount (though it clear he's still far from being a fan) but garnt is especially surprising because Sydney plays them all the time
Bought the game last night finished all the routes and I have to say it’s sweet in a cursed way definitely worth the read
I played doke doke club and I was like what the hell is going on with this game and the part were you find you best friend had hanging herself I was like what the fuck
Being fair, the main character is mentally ill, like that's what triggers the whole story, so it makes sense that he's more accepting of all that stuff than a normal person.
I guess from his perspective he's surrounded by disgusting monsters that he's afraid will lock him up in a padded cell if they find out what's actually wrong with him and the only solace he gets is being inside his nightmare house with his eldritch gf.
yeah from what connor described, the mc actually seemed like he was definitely not a good person.
His condition messes up his perception, not his mental capacity. At the beginning he shows enough awareness to understand his perception is false, so while we can sympathise with the hellish scape his existence is it doesn't come close to justifying many of his actions.
@@whodatboi2567 Maybe, but living in complete unrelenting psychological agony every waking moment of your life would break anybody eventually.
@@juice6521 But given the horrific things he ends up doing doesn't get excused due to his condition.
No one has pointed you guys to read Umineko yet? The visual novel itself has changed multiple lives in terms of viewing visual novels as a whole
isnt it like 100 hours tho? i got through 2 chapters before calling it quits
@@breadbaskets2772 It's part of the world building. Slow build but it gets better. Trust me.
I ain't sinking hundreds of hours into a visual novel that can't even deliver the sea cat the title promises 😤😤😤😤
I wish either Joey or Garnt would read subahibi
man, reading saya no uta in my childhood is a blast. my first introduction to visual novels is Moero downhill night, as a guy with limited access to internet back then this is like the safe haven for prons for me. even though the pc is in the living room my parents didnt really suspect me of playing such games lmao. i just know when to stop reading it and continue reading it when they're asleep.
VNs is such a culture, it really made me my child self like reading.
Current day people cant read a long visual novel, the brain rot doesnt allow them to read for more than 5 hours max. They will never experience an Umineko or Rewrite. This is sad.
I wish i could but im too poor to buy a pc :(
Umineko was an otherworldly experience. I'd pay good money to see Connor trudge through the Question arc at least.
Don’t tell people what to enjoy
Aight, Katawa Shoujo next please
The House in Fata Morgana is a really good first visual novel.
The brainrot has consumed their attention span😢
No they just have a life.
@@Gman-eu8wk lmaooooo 🤣🤣
Saya no uta is ok but not the best starting visual novel for beginners especially since its a bit hardcore.
I need to know if Connor would understand Umineko.
Oh man… Umineko, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time
Don't tell me they're going to make them read euphoria next.
😂
Just make him feel bored by normal VNs so now he can only read the most grotesque and over the top shit out there.
oh hell naw 😂 would love to see them react to it tho (let's suggest it to them as the next vn)
of all the first experiences with a VN to force someone into, Saya no Uta is a wild choice. I hope it was the uncensored version.
Favourite childhood game
Honestly this is the best one to try out if you never played vns before. I think one of the newest ones Paranormasight is also very good as a starter vn. Good story, good art and not long (for those who don't want 100+ hours vn). There are some rabbit holes like Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, Zero Escape, etc. Or something close to vn (but not a vn) and crazy like 13 Sentinels where your brain is going to be cooked with everything that is going on there. But it is one of the most impressive ones for sure.
I pushed this memory to the darkest recesses of my mind and this video brought it up to the surface 😢
I regret learning about this story.
Saya no Uta is so good
asking for a visual novel that is literally a book to be more digestible is the most brainrot shit i've heard yall will never be able to handle honkai impact 3rd that is a 3d visual novel with gameplay and has over 200+ hours of story and still getting more chapters
I saw saya no uta and thought.
Nooo... i regret importing this to the point i threw it into the trash.
I didnt want to keep it.
Plus it was probably illigal to have in canada.
Wild? From the dude that skip cinematic? Thats torture
A gloriously offensive VN about the core mechanics of racism and other phobias.
Not one of my ALL time favoirites. But it vibes good! Perfect OST too.
What the actual fuck does this have to do with racism
Next challenge. Make connor sit through totono.
This sounds horrible to me as a first visual novel
They needed "the content"
Tbh I think Saya no Uta is a good game to get someone not into visual novels hooked; it's short, shocking, and intriguing. Take into account how these guys think the beginning of ddlc is slow and annoying; he would not like most visual novels.
im guessing its good as a first because its digestible and easy to understand for the amount of time one plays it, which is relatively short compared to many intimidatingly long vns for a vn newbie.
i watched someone play saya no uta on youtube, can confirm its a pretty good and shocking introduction to visual novels. i was randomly recommended saya no uta ost and i thought this looked cool and checked it out
man was i shook
God, I love some Gen Urobuchi. I hope to hell Kamen Rider Gaim gets a box set as well.
Saya no Uta is a masterpiece. Glad you are bringing attention to this to your anime only audience.
I think the adult scenes only added to the games atmosphere
Me playing 100+ hours of clannad 😼
the clip that made twitter extra annoying the last week
I really like Says No Uta for it’s way of storytelling and world building but it was hard to sympathize with any character because they all made incredibly poor decisions. I was also left with more questions than answers and I got to see all the endings. I also believed this VN works perfectly without the adult scenes, I played the incredibly censored version and I thought it did well without it.
to this day my favorite VN is katawa shoujo, mostly bc at the time when i read/played it, i was recently also diagnosed with a severe version of arrhythmia and funnily enough i had a friend with no arms
YES CONNOR
Saya No Uta is so good for how short it is.
I've been feeling this for a long time, but I just want to get this off my chest and warn anyone who wants to understand or try Visual Novels.
Visual novels are catered towards people who really want more emotional attachment / impact from anime in general.
(Characters, story, music)
It feels like a lot of anime and video games come out with some very unique ideas but are unable to execute a full experience.
Anime but ESPECIALLY video games have been getting a lot of mainstream attention but because of that are converting to corporate practices with every consecutive year.
Unfortunately, it's inevitable at this point.
(Micro-transactions, unfinished games on launch, poor optimization, etc.)
(Time-crunches, lack of funding, inflation, shorter episodic formats, 24ep > 12ep > 11ep)
IMO, this really hinders the storytelling/pacing & character development for Anime.
Only caveat is:
1. You have to invest so much of your life for Visual Novels
2. Harem...
3. Sometimes self-fulfillment, self-insert generic, passive MC's
4. "SEKS" sells so be prepared to find a lot of adlut content.
Rant over
I agree 100%. Good rant 👍
you sir have made me more interested in vns, gonns check some popular ones out now
@maho9139 Glad you're interested.
These are my favorites.
I'll keep this short if you are looking for recommendations.
1. Muv-Luv Trilogy
(Muv-Luv Extra > Muv-Luv Unlimited > Muv-Luv Alternative.
Avoid researching too much due to spoilers.)
2. Utawarerumono Trilogy
(I'd recommend playing Prelude to the Fallen first, then Utawarerumono Mask of Deception to Mask of Truth.
But if Prelude is too slow for you, then perhaps play MoD, MoT to get straight into the action.
And hold off on PttF for backstory/lore if you want.)
3. Saya no Uta
4. The House in Fata Morgana
5. 999 series
6. Raging Loop
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's it for now.
Muv-Luv and Utawarerumono are heavily character and story-driven.
Best worldbuilding in the VN genre.
They are slow burns.
But if you can see them through to the end; it'll be worth it.
If you're not heavy into reading, I'd recommend Saya no Uta, 999 series for beginners.
glad they picked one of the better ones
If reading a book doesnt interest me, then no need to say anything more about LN... Though the only reason i "played" fate LN was to look at H scenes.
Does anyone know if they've played the visual novel of white album 2? I'm too curious to know what they think about it 😂😂
The title and thumbnail seem extremely clickbait, especially since there was almost no footage of Connor actually reacting to stuff in/from the game.
What is this shit about the beginning of a Visual Novel is too slow because you are meeting the girls etc? That's called the common route for a reason, it's literally the good part before you choose one girl to pursue and all the other characters, and comedic elements, drop off the map. I know the fact you have to replay it for every route (unless you save scum) might wear thin after awhile, but lots of VNs have exceedingly pleasant common routes and beginnings.
Pretty sure this is a South Park episode...
ถ้าไม่ได้จะไปเอารถ, ไม่มีใครไปหรอกค่ะเพราะว่าพี่ ได้✅
Please never do content on VNs ever again
Where is the domestic girlfriend bit?!
Do you guys have played Dohna Dohna?
At least make him play a good visual novel. Maybe Majikoi or Grisaia or even Higurashi/Umineko. Why Saya no Uta?
EDIT: I guess in terms of good visual novels that get right into the action and are fairly short, I Walk Among Zombies would've been a great choice.
Probably because other than the actual content of Saya itself it’s one of the easiest visual novels to get into. It’s short, art is fine, interesting premise, and thrusts people right into the action.
I definitely feel like if Connor had to read something with a slow start his eyes would glaze over.
What's wrong with Saya no Uta and why would you think asking somebody to read a 50-80 hour VN would be a good starting point to get into the genre?
@@mp4blue And VNs are simply not for everyone, some people already complain about Steins;Gate being too slow so imagine them reading the VN for it, and considering their reactions and opinions about this one, it is very clear they wouldn't be able to take several hours of 'fluff' dialogue that are in most VNs.
Coz it's short. He can finish it in one sitting if he wants.
Because they each had like just 1-2 hours for anything picked in this format?
Do you think 1-2 hours into Majikoi or Grisaia would translate to anything worth having a discussion about?
First VN I played was Maggot baits and enjoyed it, idk why ppl play Song of Saya when ite obvious front the genre and cover what game it is. Like imagine playing an ero guro game and complaining about it being ero guro
...Just admit you either don't have time/cannot manage your time to read a novel anymore. Why would you even call it a "Visual Novel" anymore if it's short af?... Sure, you have light novel that span 30 volume and can read through that but cannot save a visual novel and come back to it like so?
Unironically living up to their podcast name ffs...
No wonder why the market these days are either 2-3 hours VN that barely has anything worthwhile beside the barebone boring repetitive settings or R18 illustration fest. Nobody has the attention span to sit down and read anymore.
Imagine these guys sitting through a game like Majikoi, that spans multiple entries with a routes chart that can look like 5 family trees.
I have those literal same thoughts but with books instead of visuals novels.
Gamers can't get into vns unless gameplay, vn readers/gamers can't get into books because multiple routes they need or find it hard to read something without voice acting, music, or visuals.
To each their own but hey, everyone has a different level of patience and tolerance so that in of itself is respectable if at least not agreeable.
Yeah, too little long vns comes out nowadays, it sucks :v
I'm okay with short, but much prefer the behemoth sized ones, and bruh...
And it's so fun when they're choke full of dead ends and alternative routes! Really shows how serious the situation is(for the deadly ones), usually.
Chill, jeez can't people have their own opinion anymore? If they don't like VNs then what's the big deal? I love horror but not a lot enjoy this genre, I'm not bashing them to the ground and trash on their attention span? You VN stans need to chill af
@@Kate2102360 Problem is not that. There's a difference between a person not liking or having no patience for vns(which is fine, not for them), and a person bashing vns because they're "too long" and "all vns should be short, this shit is boring, lol" even though they're the ones who went for long ones when it's not for them :v
What happened is more the 2nd one there :v
One is just a person's taste, the other is an offense towards vns and those who read them, specially enjoyers of long ones :v
And that the market nowadays has too little long ones, and people's attention span only shrinks is true tho.
Regardless of the connection to being unable to read vns, that's a very real problem nowadays, and you shouldn't discredit its seriousness just because you think it's silly or overblown.
U have any idea how hard it is to gave a conversation with anyone who uses a lot of short form content(tiktok etc)? Its hell, they keep getting distracted even when its work related or very serious and can barely understand what you say a lot of the time :v
I'd say being unable to sit down and read a vn or a book is one of the smallest problems about it... :v
Connor should play Va-11 Hall-A next
Coffee Talk as well
Tbh I FEEL this clip, I played saya no uta and never liked it. The h scenes are super unnecessary, the horror element is cheesy and try so hard to be edgy, whole thing is more like an edgy teenager's I got a goth girlfriend and it's us against the world level fantasy😂 worse Saya is literally a child, and what they do to the other girl? I never understand the praise towards this game, and don't ever want to understand it.
It’s a great game
Wow, man literally sees everything as flesh, blood and guts due to psychological trauma. And obviously, because of this, anyone will go crazy. "He's weirdo" they say. Wow, what a surprise.
Ohshit I really liked this one
I already could tell you guys wouldn’t enjoy the usual visual novels with tons of slice of life moments anymore. (Connor definitely won’t enjoy it)
Sure, I would like to get back into the story and it does get a bit slow but I love seeing the characters that I grew to care about just enjoy life happily before continuing on with the story.
ESPECIALLY if things get worse for them later on.
Will never play VNs like this though. (Nor the eroge ones) Horror is absolutely NOT my genre and as a person who gets easily squeamish when it comes to gore, this is big nope for me. (Tsukihime’s level of violence is fine though)
People complaining about the boy's take on visual novels when they haven't picked up any book at a library.
I went through alot of adventure novels as a kid, then picked up some romcoms/drama as a teen.
Granted I'd be too pu$$y to read stuff like Eragon or GoT, but it's also knowing that it's so good made me not pick it up.
I watched RUclipsrs play DDLC and I considered that my playthrough. I'm not gonna traumatize myself knowing that I "killed my favorite character and her friends".
Being an adult sucks, we lack more time. But even if we had more time, we'd use that to extend vacations, binge anime, finish our Steam library of games, and/or finish my collection of "knowledge" on my booksheves
See dude, you shouldn't project your behavior unto others. There's a lot of people who have picked many books and many vns and read em' all over watching anime, or even reading a good manga.
There'll be a lot of people who do just what you said too and would also do what you said in an extended vacation, but point is, dont put all peeps in the same basket. o3o
