Aaron, thanks for another great video. I think it should be mentioned that widening of the trail is frowned upon at a lot of trail systems. There is a difference between winning races and riding your local trails for fun. Riders are encouraged to volunteer at their local trails to help repair trail damage and to get to know how trails are built and maintained.
Ya that’s why I mentioned racing specifically. There’s sections where straight lining is fine like here but other times where your mobbing through bushes or obviously wrecking the trail, wouldn’t recommend that. Would hope people use their heads. 👍🏼
@@GwinnerTube Don’t give this newer generation of riders so much credit. Etiquette isn’t as common as you may assume. They’ll see AG straight lining and say, “BuT AaRoN dOeS iT!”.
I think you have missed the Point he's using the trail as a prop with regards to racing at races where the sections are taped off. Not actually doing it on a a trail . Very good advice Aaron
@@Goggleberry123 People are going to see this and practice on their local trails in preparation for a race. You seriously think new riders are gonna watch this and be like, “yeah I’ll only save these techniques for race day on a course”. Get real lol
Awesome points to keep in mind! Ironically, this is the spot where we we're maintaining the trail a few seasons ago and you came out the corner and scared the dirt off of us 🤣
Great explanation but the second section raises the question what exactly is still part of the trail. If you are racing it’s simple, anything between the tape but in this case you could argue that bank isn’t meant to be ridden and doing so leads to a wide, straight motorway down the hill. I do lots of building and maintenance at the local trails and we deliberately block the insides of corners like this.
You’re right. This was meant to explain how to go faster in race situations. I think it’s important for people to use their best judgement on local trails when it’s ok to do this and when you’re just jacking up the trail.
@@GwinnerTube true, it’s a case by case judgment. On flowtrails it’s usually pretty clear what the builders considered part of the trail. On natural/tech/goat trails I usually stay on the part that has been ridden/walked before, judging by the compacted dirt and lack of weeds. Staying within the boundaries of the trail doesn’t necessarily mean taking the sheep line IMO. I often decrease the radius of a corner by using the outer and inner edges of the trail, likewise to straighten my lines. Ever since becoming a huge Hill fanboy in 2007-08 I’ve been very conscious of line choice, to the point of doing it while driving, riding my city bike etc.
Straightening corners was something drummed into my head as a kid riding moto…something I don’t think about often enough on a MTB these days. Thanks for the reminder Aaron, great video! 👍🏻
Aaron, best video yet 🤘! Learnt so much about straight-lining and cornering! Thank you so much for sharing, looking forward to future videos and of course the racing 🏁 when it comes!
Aaron, thank for your great racing insight, training and education! Love it! You seem like a good dude trying to help others. Love to go riding with you and have a Arnold Palmer with you. But at the same time is it not fun to have turns, and better for the trail? I get it thought that riding straight up and down trails is a blast! I enjoy it also. Most of the trails here are what I call imba-fied meaning all the hill trails are turned into groomed switchbacks. No more ruts, roots or natural rock gardens. Just man made pointy dangerous rib cracking and shoulder dislocating big rocks. The idiots her put a BIG pointy rock on the downhill side of the trail so when something goes wrong you fall into the big rock, break ribs and dislocate your shoulder due to trying to reach the ground that is unreachable due to the too big pointy rock. Maybe say fun but slower line vs fast line. Again thank you for ALL the information, time, information and care. Good riding to you!
Another great video! I have found it a bit difficult transfer my ability's to read a motocross track to the trail. This video definitely gave me some ideas on how to view the trails differently. Thanks!
The corners and obstacles are the fun parts! Where possible, please try to ride the trail as designed. Keeping to the trail center helps to keep the trail in good condition.
Thanks for all the good content. I’m a Moto guy but getting back into mountain biking. Line choice is key to all riding regardless of the discipline. Arron is right don’t follow the pack. It more fun to crate your own lines and most the time the dirt is way better. Enjoy the ride!
Think u could do a video on line choice through longer/gnarlier sections where there are a couple ways though and how to spot the best in given situation?
I love when all of the single-track trails that are sooo much fun to ride because of all the turns and bumps and features get turned into a strava chasing motorway. Also in the feature it will make trail building soooo much easier, just drive a bulldozer in a straight line,
Coming from road racing....I ONLY see the trail. I see something quicker off trail, but think it's "not sanctioned" or bad karma as the trail workers will have more work to do from riding off trail.
Where I live in Cleveland, Oh., the trail group asks riders to stay on the ridden part of the trail to prevent added erosion, thus adding to trail maintenance. Should I ride the correct way or listen to the trail maintenance crew?
It would be easier faster and less disrespectful of trails to just go ride a fire-road, oh wait that's what we all had to do 20 years ago, I wonder how long it will be till we're back to that being the predominate MTB "trail"?
thanks man! as the saying goes, "Jumps for show and corners for dough!" this is awesome what you are doing for the community. sure hope people (@Schrica) and others have a SLIGHT CLUE regarding your accomplishments. all of the content I have seen in your videos are BACKED UP by your successes which ultimately culminated internationally with UCI DHI. Thank you.

Super sick! Keep doing these videos. Also the work outs for DH racing . Great Job!
Even the bad line looks cool when Aaron rides it, though.
Such a great video! Thanks!
Sick vid, love the work! Could you go over picking lines through really techy sections as well as scrubbing jumps? Thanks!
Keep the vids coming Aaron..you’ve got a really good way of explaining things that help aspiring amateurs like me to improve….!! Thank you 🙏 🤟
Loving these videos Aaron!

Great vid. Same holds true for racing on a dirt bike.
Awesome! Thanks!
I look for this things naturally, and its good to know you doing same ✌ Video about possition on bike would be nice.
Keep em coming, awesome videos, thanks!
I appreciate the instruction on all the videos. All of this is great for off season sessions!
Could you do a video of how to focus and hold the line you already chose before? Because for me it’s a difficulty when racing.
Love this. Thanks
I learned a lot from this video and can't wait to try and train my brain.👍
Love these videos!
Please keep doing those Videos! They are great. Sometimes i have problems with concentration when riding. You have some tips on this topic?

Buddy, you really, really gotta edit before you hit send yo!!!
This is awesome! Can you do a line choice video of technical rock and root sections?
Another great video! I have found it a bit difficult transfer my ability's to read a motocross track to the trail. This video definitely gave me some ideas on how to view the trails differently. Thanks!
Good stuff!!

Saw you at Simpson park. Hope it was a good ride… you blew past us on the climb back up haha.
Thanks for all the good content.

Very impressive riding technique !. Less turn means faster ! 👍
Trail builders: now installing more coralling thanks to Mr Gwin's trade secrets.
😆 for sure. Although, AG gonna expose you builders out there the make unnecessary turns. I've built a few.
He was using the trail as a prop, he specifically said how to gain time for a race run...
Think u could do a video on line choice through longer/gnarlier sections where there are a couple ways though and how to spot the best in given situation?
Excellent breakdown. Will be practicing this technique more and applying at local races 🤟🤘
This is a great VIdeo now I know how to fined good line thank you

Sweeeeet! I like!
gotta use the whole track
Ride an E-Bike…understood!
Just busting balls haha

I'm still a bit sceptical man. I mean, like that's gonna win you a race if you would, like, snap your chain! 🤨
😆💪🏼👊🏼
🤣
Straight from the horse's, I mean racer's, mouth!
Where I live in Cleveland, Oh., the trail group asks riders to stay on the ridden part of the trail to prevent added erosion, thus adding to trail maintenance. Should I ride the correct way or listen to the trail maintenance crew?
C’mon my dude.
You're not racing, so take care of your local trails, and do what they ask.
It would be easier faster and less disrespectful of trails to just go ride a fire-road, oh wait that's what we all had to do 20 years ago, I wonder how long it will be till we're back to that being the predominate MTB "trail"?
Which trail are you on?
At 2:40 got scared for Aaron ^^
Yes, French lines
Hold my strava
