The unflagging evenness and beauty of the tone at all dynamics, the lavishly long phrases, the magisterial delivery of the text: he shows himself to be the only real successor to Vickers.
This is still the best Ingemisco rendition !! Even comparing with other version of JK's Ingemisco. Bravo, Jonas! And Rene Pape sounds good - a shame more of his singing is not included. Anyway, Thank you again, Marcus Corelli!
This is one of the most beautiful recordings of this piece I've ever heard, despite the shortcomings of the recording and the damned coughing and throat clearing by the audience!
A genoux.... Immense, Grandiose !!!! Merci pour ce partage !! Barenboim ne le quitte pas des yeux.....
To TreblesBasses - Thank you so much for uploading this. There was a beautiful Ingemisco sung by JK in 2008 for a while, but then it was withdrawn. I have been very eager to hear it again, so I am very grateful. JK is singing this (Verdi's Requiem) on Aug. 29 (Lucern)and Sept. 1 (Salzburg). How very much I wish I could be there; but this is a good consolation substitute. I wonder where and when this live concert took place. Thank you again.
I am still of the opinion that this rendition of Ingemisco by JK is incomparable -- I've heard a number of other singers since I said this was the best, 6 years ago - I still believe this is a very very special singing he gave us.
JK sounds as good as or even better than before his illness. I am ecstatic! Thank you again so much for posting this! Is it Bryn Terfel who followed Ingemisco? I like him, too, so I am wondering why it was cut off. But JK's Ingemisco is the most important, and I am satisfied.
Yes I thought he was vocally superb as Siegmund, also the way he moved on stage and interacted with the other singers was almost breaktaking. He's steady and he's musician. Not saying he's another Bjoerling, but few are. His Don Jose at LaScala impressive also.
I believe it's Barenboim and a dress rehearsal at La Scala. There is a professional video recording of the final performance, which is not as dramatic as this live bootleg.
you can think whatever you want but he is one of the VERY FEW singers who doesn't breath in the phrase "mihi quohoe spem dedisti" after hitting the high note : see 1:20. This can only happen if you have a perfect singing tecnique
Kaufmann is probably our best current operatic tenor on the international scene. A big, dark, baritonal voice, somewhat reminiscent of Vickers', although with more facility on top. The conductor takes this tremendous aria rather too slowly for my taste --
If you type it into Google, it will give you the translation. Do specify whether you want the English, or the Latin text, since it is being sung in Latin.
It's the Requiem Mass by Verdi and the words are Latin. Latin Text Ingemisco tamquam reus, culpa rubet vultus meus; supplicanti parce, Deus. English Translation I groan as a guilty one, and my face blushes with guilt; spare the supplicant, O God. You, who absolved Mary Magdalen, and heard the prayer of the thief, have given me hope, as well. My prayers are not worthy, but show mercy, O benevolent one, lest I burn forever in fire. Give me a place among the sheep, and separate me from the goats, placing me on your right hand.
I think his best Othello is still in his future though....like Vickers, I think some vocal age/rougher edge can be an asset with that role in particular...
A singing belch? I suppose Vickers, Corelli and Del Monaco were singing farts???? I had only heard this tenor a few days ago with the PBS airing of Die Walkure while falling asleep, and woke up to his voice and thought, wow, a real living heldontenor just like the testosterone tenors of yesteryear. I'm just glad he had instruction to discover his real voice instead of ruining it by lightening and brightening too much. I'm in love.
divo, Thank you very much. I confuse Rene Pape and Bryn Terfel sometimes. Yes, the Verdi Requiem should be great and I am very envious of the people who can go to Lucern or Salzburg this summer. These performances are steller cast - how wonderful! I hope we'll be able to hear/see some RUclips after the performances. Thank you again.
I have seen some strange comments here but my take is that he has a gorgeous dark lyric sound. I would hate to see him push to do dramatic roles. I'll take twenty five years of Boheme, Tosca and Carmen rather than 7 of Fanciulla, Turandot, and Wagner. Yes he modifies his vowels but who cares when the sound is that beautiful.
Hahhha, you make me smile. At least somebody who understand jokes and not take it to to serious. But to be honest, it is a question of taste. He sounds to me too artificial dark.A Tenor voice should be light and bright like the sunshine. If you listen to the voices of Nicolai Gedda or Ferruccio Tagliavini, you'll understand what I mean.Mr. Kaufmann is a good Bariton, not less and not more.If you can sig higher notes dosen't mean you are a Tenor. The voice timbre makes the dfference. All the best! Frank
for better understanding so called opera-lovers should learn more about composers, translate at least famous areas and not only keep saying bravo, sexy, etc. and Jonas Kaufmann deservs it. admiration, but some effort to appreciate really his great talent and what he gives us
By the way, I was listen to your voice, and you have a excellent timbre. You sound so much better than Kaufmann! You sing the natural way. This is my opinion. If it would be the opposite, I'm not shy to say that too. You a Bariton, and Kaufmann aslso, but you are far better!
The unflagging evenness and beauty of the tone at all dynamics, the lavishly long phrases, the magisterial delivery of the text: he shows himself to be the only real successor to Vickers.
Except for the tiny voice and unnatural vowels, sure
I've listened to this Ingemisco many times but I never tire of this singing. The most beautiful singer in the world! Thank you, Mr. Kaufmann!
This is still the best Ingemisco rendition !! Even comparing with other version of JK's Ingemisco. Bravo, Jonas! And Rene Pape sounds good - a shame more of his singing is not included. Anyway, Thank you again, Marcus Corelli!
This is one of the most beautiful recordings of this piece I've ever heard, despite the shortcomings of the recording and the damned coughing and throat clearing by the

Sublime, such a genius,my heart start to palpitate when I hear this rendition, all his rendition is perfect 2:37
A genoux....
Immense, Grandiose !!!!
Merci pour ce partage !!
Barenboim ne le quitte pas des yeux.....
I keep coming back to this Ingemisco - Mr. Kaufmann's singing is incomparable. He is absolutely the best singer in the world!
The recording with Jonas, Anya Harteros, Elina Garanca and Rene Pape with Daniel Barenboim conducting . Oh, my!
This is fabulous singing!
WOW, WOW, WOW ❤ I wish Verdi could somehow have heard that
He would have been awestruck. Jonas Kaufmann you have a wondrous and beautiful voice ❤
You're very welcome! I love to know that there are still people that enjoy good music!
Fantastic! Così si canta! Grande Jonas!
His voice was exceptionally brilliant through this period...almost impossibly so....
I think 2005-2013 Kauffman is pretty damn magical
Fantastisch !!!!
Generally considered the best operatic tenor alive.
Thank you for sharing this video. I've been looking for Jonas Kaufamnn and Ingemisco for about a month and couldn't find it. I'm gald to have it now.
ESPLÉNDIDO JONAS KAUFMANN!!!❤️💞❤️💞❤️💞❤️💞❤️💞❤️💞❤️💞

Another gem. Thank you.
Großartig

It is very stunning!
Best performance ever for him,the voice are really at the right positions ,specifically for the big tenor as him
Of many taping of Ingemisco by Kaufmann, I love this version best. Pape's voice following JK is wonderful, too. Too bad it's cut off.
This is true!!! I'm glad to hear the old school training!
Outstanding!!!!!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful clip of Jonas. :O)
Huge gorgeous sound, solid as a rock technique, incredible musicianship and artistry. And handsome as the devil. That's really not fair!
GREATEST!!!

Who is conducting? Where is this? This is fabulous.

His Wagner is awesome!
Majestic
Thanks for sharing this video! Here in Teatro alla Scala, but when?!
Sublime ♥
somptueux Kaufmann, complètement inspiré, comme toujours;
Molto bravo!

The conductor takes this tremendous aria rather too slowly for my taste --
Although for me, the best "Ingemisco" rendition on record was Bjorling's, live from Carnegie Hall circa 1957 --
Bravo !!!
Not even close to Vickers in sound , technique or musicianship
What opera is this from? What are the words in English (or in Italian)?
If you type it into Google, it will give you the translation. Do specify whether you want the English, or the Latin text, since it is being sung in Latin.
Verdi "Messa da Requiem" (1874)
It's the Requiem Mass by Verdi and the words are Latin.
Latin Text

Ah, see it is from Verdi's Requiem, and that there is an excellent video posted by Decca.
Kaufmann in his absolute prime!
Bravo!
This is a wonderful performance and I'm also quite impressed with the conductor. Who is he and who else is in this performance?
The conductor is Daniel Barenboim.
A singing belch? I suppose Vickers, Corelli and Del Monaco were singing farts???? Now, you made me laugh.

It gives you a sense of what it would be like to hear him live. Big fan.

Sublime!
Lawd forgive me for having sinful thoughts with this rendition.

What the fuck is the conductor doing?????
are you happy with your pathological contempt of emotion?
So much junk squeezed into YT's 500 character allowance. How do manage to think out so many ridiculous statements?
You obviously have a problem!
I dont think he knows what the hell he is talking about either. It all sounds a trifle pathological and so nasty as well. Poor guy!
