For someone who grew up listening to the original of this track, on repeat, on audio cassette amd vhs.. this was pure nostalgic, as i was same age when i first heard the song in 90s.
Loved watching the reaction - and frankly loved watching the song all over again. I saw that the spunky little kid in green, who does the ‘Yara mere naal’ bit of rap at 6:00 put a smile on your face, as he does every single time on mine.
I must have watched the song a few dozen times since it came out, and it really is hard for me to pick a favorite out of this bunch. Just as you said - cuteness overload. The two older girls - and it says something when the older girls look to be 12 or 13 - seemingly steal the show in the singing, but then it’s so unfair to any of these kids to pick one over the other. When you have some time, do go check out the original by Fakhr e Alam, Yaser and The Fringe Benefits. It’s spectacular how the kids have brought out the style of each of the original artists but also how the song has been improvised into something completely new.
I hope the kids get to see your reaction because it would give them such a boost :)
When do you react to the band ‘Bayaan’? Each of their songs is a gem in its own right, and what stands out about the band in addition to soulful singing and brilliant compositions is their poetry. The first song I had heard was Nahin Milta. I recommend starting with Nahin Milta. Or perhaps with Din Dhaley. Or Hum Nadaan.
Or one of their Pepsi Battle of the Bands performances...
... I don’t know anymore. It’s going to be great whichever one you start with. Expect to be hooked.

It's really difficult to bring the kids on front with all kinds of instruments. 2nd point singers and instruments players match each other. 3rd point two or three players matching with kids while playing instrument. That's why Zulfi know what to do and how to do. He knows the real taste of music. All credit goes to the whole team. But the King is Zulfi.

And jojo this talent is only or mostly from elite or upper middle class. Imagine those who can't afford to be in academies. I have heard a 7 years old singing thumri of bade ghulam ali khan sb and I literally cried after he sang and said "bhai 100 ropay dedo kuch khana hai". I can tell you if he had the convenience and affordability to be in a academy he would have been a great classical singer.
