Suzuki made the Gen 3 'Busa for people like me, someone who didn't like the previous body style but wanted a new Hayabusa that looked better but was as close to the original formula as possible.
I mean, they even kept the analog gauges. They changed hundreds of engine parts, but it's the same engine. They built it with a Japanese mentality, and left a strong canvas for the aftermarket.
It's like I willed this bike into existence. I have a ZX-10R, so I don't care that it doesn't come with 180...much less 200 horsepower to the wheels. The Gen 3 is the best bike I've owned or ridden.
Yeah, it's not the fastest thing I've ridden, but no literbike feels like the Gen 3 'Busa the way it thrusts forward with such urgency. Speed and horsepower isn't everything. The power delivery and feel of the bike matters more to me.

I can't pick a favorite generation of the Hayabusa. That's like picking your favorite child. I have a gen 1, gen 2, gen 3, and another turbo gen 1. Each one has its own personality. You won't understand the differences between them, unless you are routinely switching back and forth between all of them. I love them equally and enjoy their different qualities.

In my opinion, the gen 1 handels the corners the best and is more filickable than the rest. The gen 3 is definitely more agile than the gen two. There's just something about the gen 1 that dives into corners easier and holds it better. I have a lot more confidence riding the gen 1 hard through the twisties. I daily ride the Utah mountains and canyons.

Research I did showed them equal except for the electronics, so i went for Gen 3. that tipped the scales for me. under 400 miles and loving it. took it on a 4hr, 300 mile round trip, cruise control made it comfortable. my 2022 Zero SR/S electric is my 100 mile commuter bike and Busa is my sport touring bike. the Zero with its 150ft-lb torque is faster, but Busa has legs.

Gen 3 busa is a disappointment in the engine department, should of been a 1441 with 200hp to the rear tire stock and then let the aftermarket unlock the other 20hp with a flash. As far as looks go, the front and side panels look great but looking at it from the rear it resembles an old 90's RF 1100...Haha. The electronics are an obvious upgrade but you didn't need them on the Gen2 so not really a a big deal, now if Suzuki gave you some hp to harness then the electronics would of been more relevant....personally I'd buy a Gen 2 and save a bundle of cash, still great looking, same hp, frame and geometry is unchanged, not much difference in the suspension department and you can take the 💰 saved from not buying a Gen3 and build yourself a 1441....done...lol

What I think about the Gen 3 Busa is not very good. Ive seen alot of negative stuff on the 21+22 models. People are selling them fast. Plus for that much money Suzuki should have upgraded the motor. Honestly the Gen1 is the best for racing. Gen 3 NOT WORTH DOUBLE THE PRICE OF A GEN 2.

    Hi Chris,
Personally, I like the Gen 2 by a landslide.
I don't like all of the electronics of the new Gen 3. Also, with the right modifications I still like the looks of the Gen 2.
As for electric bikes, I would never buy one, if I can't listen to the bitchin sound of my Brock's performance exhaust system, I'll ride a bicycle. We all know how fast the Tesla plaid is, this is proof that soon the fuel powered bikes won't be as fast but I'd still rather fill-er-up with gas any day. Thanks to you, my Gen 2 scares the heck out of me, I can't and won't ever be able to ride it to it's full potential anyway.
Now, as far as the pops in the exhaust tune, I prefer no pops.
Thank you for another great video, as always, much appreciated!

The extra cost is all about the electronics. To me, the Gen 3 would be the way to go given the cruise control, lean sensitive ABS, rider modes, etc. If there is one mistake that was made, it was that Suzuki keep the name GSX-R Hayabusa. The reason for comment is that insurance companies will group the Gen 3 with the older models which means insurance rates will continue to be high. Had Suzuki re-named the bike, insurance companies would have looked at this bike as a separate model. Given the substantially higher cost, one can predict that fewer incidents would occur and thus support lower premiums (at least here in Canada). A good example of this is comparing GSX-R1000, ZX10, R1 t o Ducati/BMW. Both the Ducati and BMW are cheaper to insure as they have cater to a different clientele but have similar performance. Again here in Canada, the Japanese 1000 normal insures for about $1500-2500 a year while the Du/BMW insure for about $800-1500 (based on rider age, experience and training).

With two different Gens there's show so little difference you could easily take two bikes of the same Gen, equipped and tuned so they are as identical as possible and get similar results. For a buyer is comes down to preferences and cash. Personally, I still prefer the Gen I's. The Gen 2 and 3's are a bit more potent, they ride, handle, and brake a bit better, but not so much that one would really notice the differences until riding in a way that pretty much equates to tarmac madness.
I've got a Gen 1 because I like the looks much more. And I don't ride it enough, or crazy enough to justify an upgrade. It has the basic minor modes, pipe, filter and tune, but nothing else that would impact power output. I bought it new back in 2002, and it has a little over 6K on the clock. It sits a lot. My rides are typically on the short side, and maybe two or three times I've really stretched it's legs. It has seen 140 and 150 many times - maybe twice during each riding season. Of course that only happens during the wee hours of the morning when I'm pretty much the only vehicle on the road.
All in all, each Gen of the Hayabusa has proven extraordinary motorcycles. They aren't necessarily the baddest out there, but they haven't an ounce of shame in their games, either.

Weird that 2020 has the 2019 paint . The 2020 has a darker smoked grey look. Honestly wish I waited and got it. My 2019 just rolled over 43000kms.

I have both motorcycles, fossil fuel burning crotch rockets (H2 SXSE+ and Ninja 650) and an electric and I think each has it’s own niche to fill. The electric has no range per se, ~150mi in the city and ~80 @ highway speeds and is dependent on finding charging stations before you end up stranded with a dead battery. As a runabout in the city, with plenty of free charging stations scattered at a lot of the shopping venues, the battery bike is great; but on the open road, the gassers rule. They can go farther, faster, and can get fuel from roadside assistance trucks whereas the EverReady bikes can’t…unless those trucks have generators and you’re carrying the appropriate charging CABLES.
Anyway, I like my 110hp/140lbft DuraCell-powered bike; it’s great for the twisty roads where I live, the torque out of the turns is scary fast, and I hardly ever use my brakes with a great regen system on the bike into the turns. To each his own I guess.

Gen2. Makes sense that they are toe to toe. But like the ovreall looks of the Gen2 better. having said that, I think we need to clarify what Suzuki did exactly to the Gen3 from Gen2. I know a big part of it was to get back into the Euro market with stricter emissions control. So my comment to Chris, would be nice to see the unrestricted versions tested against each other. In my opinion the Gen3 should squeek thru as the leader....should, but I wouldn't bet on it. Lets dig deeper Chris, your the Suzuki guy :)
