Kruger National Park - History - 31 May 1926 - 2024

The Kruger National Park is a renowned South African national park and one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It was proclaimed on May 31, 1926 under the newly formed National Parks Board of Trustees, which became the controlling body of the park, reporting to the Minister of Lands1. The park’s establishment aimed at conserving nature, but the idea of tourism was already in place by that time. During the first board meeting in September 1926, the value of tourism as a source of revenue was recognized. To promote tourism while earning revenue, a main road with various secondary roads for game viewing was built. Guides were appointed to accompany tourists, and fees were charged for photography and article writing. The Kruger National Park has since become a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike
