    I purchased a Full-race turbo kit for my B-series build back in 2004-2005 time frame. Back then they had a tiny office space in Mesa, Az and a small shop in Tempe I think. Anyway, back then I was looking for a kit that I knew was bullet proof, I got lucky to purchase a kit from a company (Full-race) that turned out to be one of the best and most reliable turbo kits available then and now. Seriously, Full-Race was just a bunch of cool dudes, I messed up and installed my new injectors with out lubing the o-rings, they obviously leaked. One of the full-race guys hooked me up with a new set of o-rings, I’ll never forget that, I think his name was Jose, anyway thanx Jose and Full-Race, the coolest and most high-quality companies in the mod industry that Ive ever had to deal with.

    This is really interesting, a while ago I decided my -05 wrx needed some more top end. But I did not want to lose response.
    After a while I found an ad in my local subaru group for a kinugawa twinscroll turbo, with twin scroll manifold and up pipe. Then I went to a track day and wrecked my gearbox.
    But this video inspires me to pursue my tuning plans, which are way more modest, I’m not sure I want to push more than 350hp on my stock ej205, maybe not even that much. I do more autocross than track days, so response is more important than top end.

    Hey Mike, great video as always. I've messaged a few tuners in regards to the Borg Warner turbos and they just do not seem to like that internal gated wastegate. They recommend blocking it off and going with an EWG. I mentioned there must be some type of a learning curve to this setup been there just like no go with precision. When you do the video on tuning, please focus on tuning the BW wastegate to see if it is truly as responsive as a normal EWG turbo setup.

    I have the Full-race turbo kit with the EFR 7163 twin scroll. I don't recommend the EFR turbos at all. They don't handle high oil pressure very well and start to smoke. You won't find anyone who works on EFR turbos to rebuild them because they are different than any turbo out there so your stuck with a turbo that nobody will rebuild or even want to look at. At the very least run a oil pressure regulator (OPR-40) from Turbosmart if your going to run high rpms to protect the turbo from getting too much oil pressure.

      I sorta feel that turbocharging can easily give you the power to nuke the tranny and the engines bottom end. I like the Edebrock supercharger kit. The trick is don't get greedy. Even built, the FA20 can't handle much more than low 400's for very long. The transmission can't even take that.

      One thing is that you should always mount the sensor horizontally instead of vertically. This way solid liquid water accumulating in the exhaust from E85 under cold start is less likely to be blown on the sensor. The sensor heater is getting pretty hot and some solid water hitting it can thermal shock it and take it out.

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  Год назад +1

      They are based on the Bosch EV14, just like injector Dynamics and others, top notch stuff. A long time ago they did stuff like drill out stock injectors when they were not many alternatives for some cars but that was around 15 years ago. Now their stuff is top notch, ask reputable tuners and they have no issues.

      @@motoiq admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve used them. But it would still seem they don’t have the best reputation. Perhaps all that’s needed is a few more videos from places like yourself to help change that. But it’s going to take a lot to pry my Injector Dynamics out of my hand. Ha

    Lag isnt so bad on the street if its predictable. it can get expensive to fuel normal operations if youre in boost all the time, but it is great for a race car. Another good thing about that bigger turbine housing is that it can help control EGTs a little.

    • @motoiq

    • @999Lucas

      All im saying is it can be sized bigger so that youre not on boost 100% of the time, which is a good reason to have a bigger turbo. I wouldnt want boost delay. Ill see myself out. Racecars only around here.

      if only there was some way to delay ignition timing with drive by wire. We could create some anti turbo lag system that could work while the car is rolling in race conditions. Some kind of selectable, automatic rolling anti turbo lag system. It would have to be easily programmable via ecu. i hope one day lag is easily addressed with some sort of technology like this. one day.
