AND, you can have two minutes of unskippable ads play on videos related to handling medical emergencies, like how to use an epi-pen or how to prevent someone from choking. One of these days, someone's going to get put in critical condition because their friend got a raid shadow legends ad before a video about how to use an epi-pen

not just that but it's a super stupid business move from any company paying for said ads because the whole point of pausing a video is that you aren't paying attention to it so you're paying to advertise to people who aren't there

This is wild. I often leave my pc on with several tabs of videos paused so I can either do research, fall down a rabbit hole without losing the original vid, or just watch long-form videos over time. This change will absolutley destroy that experience, imagine having to switch tabs every few minutes to stop the ad from overlapping with what you are currently watching. But this raises so many more problems than that. - what if someone needs to be quiet, and is jumpscared with an AD? - what if you want to unpause right after you get an ad? - what about the loading times of these ads, and how much bandwidth will they take up? - what if we missclick the pause button, then get an ad? THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS. I took about 5 minutes to think about this and the logic started falling apart heavily. This change is abysmal if it goes through. Great video, I'm beginning to like this channel more and more.
Don't forget buffering, which requires pausing, and pausing a video for 2 secs just to listen to someone. I do work from my desk and I pause the video I watch as a damn courtesy when someone wants to have a conversation.
I never tried it but on my phone I’m willing to, maybe on my Xbox web browser Microsoft Edge, since there possibly is no New Grounds app on consoles, like RUclips is 😅 I can’t afford a new computer yet.
wait i actually have a huge problem with this, what about people with horrible internet like myself, even when watching videos at 144p or 240p the loading is sometimes too slow, and already ads completely remove all loaded parts of the video, so playing an ad whenever we pause (which if you have bad internet, you would be doing a BUNCH, because you would pause to wait for the video to load) would be like booby trap, completely removing all the loaded parts of the video upon triggering
I used to have trash internet and that was around the time they made mostly everything start to have 2 ads which means it took FOREVER to start a video as I could hardly get ads to load for 5 seconds and it was always the same ones over and over that made me despise all of those products.
I've been going to the Walmart or library and downloading a bunch of stuff to watch when I get home. I have premium though, one of the reasons was ads aren't free. I'm paying for the ad with my data and the premium charge comes out less than the data cost.
Yeah why do they keep deleting the buffered video, and resending it if their bandwidth is so expensive anyways? Sounds like a problem of their own creation.
The best part is that aggressive advertising only makes more people either avoid your website, or get Adblocking software. In 2012 RUclips had 5 seconds ads, or 30 seconds skippable ads, now they shit 2 30 seconds ads shamelessly before you even know if you want to watch the video

this feels like its going to result in yet another cobra effect, if i were someone who was randomly forced into this nonsense i would have gotten ublock origin 10 years before it ever happened... youtube will either do a smart thing and back out before more people get pushed into using adblockers or they will continue forcing their loyal/unaware users into enduring all of this to the point some will research for ways to not have to endure it, and then download ublock origin immediately.

I don’t know if that’s possible on a TV but I trained the app to give me shorter ads. It was getting out of control, I’d get two 20 seconds unskilled ads every maybe 5 minutes of video sometimes less. Basically my rules are I’ll watch one 15 seconds ad or 2 small ones (6/7 seconds) if I get more than that I pause the video, close it and restart it. If the first of 2 ads is 6 seconds than I get a longer one I restart the video after the first ad, it starts the video with no ads. If I feel like they give me ads again too fast (I want at least 7 to 10 minutes between ads) I close the video and restart. You’ll have to close and restart quite a bit at first (sometimes I had to do it 6 times for one video in the beginning) and RUclips will try every month maybe to give you long ads again (but it won’t take as long this time for it to stop), but if you stay consistent with closing and reopening it works. I also used to let RUclips play ads while I read the comments when I’m done watching a video, now I immediately pause the video. The more ads you watch, the more they give you! Good luck!

Yes, I can see this as a big problem. I pause videos because I'm falling asleep and want to be able to watch the rest of it in the morning. If suddenly an ad played out of nowhere it'd scare the beegeesus out of me. I've already had a heart attack wouldn't want RUclips giving me another.
I will intentionally get myself sick or injured, and when i look up a video tutorial or solution to something, if i get stuck with hours of ads before i can even watch the video or the google ai summary gives me false info, im suing tf out of google and youtube for taking advantage of people's money over what they intended to offer.

I pause my youtube videos when people come by to ask me important questions. An ad just means I won't have youtube playing period during my long shifts. Less watch time from me I guess.
This is absolutely ridiculous. I could probably deal with banner ads if it benefits the creator, but it's RUclips, so I doubt that will be the case. Ads with audio would defeat the reason I pause sometimes so that will have me leaving whatever I was watching. Pure greed.
I don’t know if it’s just on mobile, but I noticed that they removed the box telling you how long is left until you can skip the ad. In its place, the progress bar indicates when you’ll be able to skip, or when the ad will end for unskippable ones. As you can probably imagine, I hate it. The change is so unnecessary and over complicates a UI that already works. I guess if it ain’t broke, break it.

I just hit the little "i" in a circle and block every ad. It doesn't actually block them in the future, but it gets rid of the un-skippable ones in the moment. I really need a new ad block though doing it manually sucks. Also 100,000 views on the situation is huge man, I'm happy for you.

I found a trick when there are 2 unskippable ads. If you click and off click until you get a 6 second ad, you simply watch that ad, then click on and off again and you don’t have to watch the 2nd ad. It still requires you watching the first ad, but you don’t have to watch the second one.
i would assume they play the ads right when somebody pauses the video because playing ads on paused videos would be such a jumpscare for the people who have youtubed paused in the background while doing something else besides, what about people who pause the video and just... leave, they are asking for us to NOT click on the ads, which undermines the entire purpose of the ads

i forget ads are a problems because i have adblock so i get pretty much flashbanged every time i wanna watch a video on my phone, it's awful but the worst is when you try to watch it on tv, not even regular tv ads are that invasive and interruptive, all they're doing is pushing adblocks to be better

for the past few weeks or even longer than that youtube has already been playing ads on some of my paused videos and I get jumpscared each time, I thought it was some kind of glitch that they would eventually fix. If they're going to start playing ads on all paused videos that's going to be a huge problem since I usually have at least a few hundred youtube tabs or so open on my pc.

this is going to negatively impact youtube's revenue because people with paused videos arent going to ever click the ads so it will make the ad clickthrough rate even worse so companies will want to give youtube ads even less often
A few days ago I was watching my playlist of videos and clicked out to do something after one video. When I came back an ad started playing with no skip button and looked like it was going to go for like 20 mins. I had to close my video and reopen it to watch what I actually wanted to watch.
as a recommendation you could compile a long video like weekly so you can get to 10 mins , more stuff and more news, more revenue , you have a pretty interesting channel very informative keep up bro!

I’ve already experienced it on ps5 it basically makes the video slightly smaller with the corner of the screen small but noticeable still image with a dismiss button. It stopped for me recently but when it was happening it was 5/6 times I paused an advertisement would come up. It was very annoying most of the time it would take 5 seconds other times minutes. This is a very irritating by CorpTube. Let people pause in peace! I’ve never bought anything because of a RUclips never will.

youtube on the tv has insanely long ad breaks. if a video is classified as a “long video” (only 20 minutes) it’ll play like 5 ads in one go

I pause my youtube videos when people come by to ask me important questions. An ad just means I won't have youtube playing period during my long shifts. Less watch time from me I guess.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I could probably deal with banner ads if it benefits the creator, but it's RUclips, so I doubt that will be the case. Ads with audio would defeat the reason I pause sometimes so that will have me leaving whatever I was watching. Pure greed.
I don’t know if it’s just on mobile, but I noticed that they removed the box telling you how long is left until you can skip the ad. In its place, the progress bar indicates when you’ll be able to skip, or when the ad will end for unskippable ones.
As you can probably imagine, I hate it. The change is so unnecessary and over complicates a UI that already works. I guess if it ain’t broke, break it.

I just hit the little "i" in a circle and block every ad. It doesn't actually block them in the future, but it gets rid of the un-skippable ones in the moment. I really need a new ad block though doing it manually sucks. Also 100,000 views on the situation is huge man, I'm happy for you.

I found a trick when there are 2 unskippable ads. If you click and off click until you get a 6 second ad, you simply watch that ad, then click on and off again and you don’t have to watch the 2nd ad. It still requires you watching the first ad, but you don’t have to watch the second one.
I used to get random ads on paused videos every couple months and it would jump scare me but I think that was just a browser glitch
i would assume they play the ads right when somebody pauses the video because playing ads on paused videos would be such a jumpscare for the people who have youtubed paused in the background while doing something else
besides, what about people who pause the video and just... leave, they are asking for us to NOT click on the ads, which undermines the entire purpose of the ads

this is going to negatively impact youtube's revenue because people with paused videos arent going to ever click the ads so it will make the ad clickthrough rate even worse so companies will want to give youtube ads even less often
A few days ago I was watching my playlist of videos and clicked out to do something after one video. When I came back an ad started playing with no skip button and looked like it was going to go for like 20 mins. I had to close my video and reopen it to watch what I actually wanted to watch.
as a recommendation you could compile a long video like weekly so you can get to 10 mins , more stuff and more news, more revenue , you have a pretty interesting channel very informative keep up bro!

I’ve already experienced it on ps5 it basically makes the video slightly smaller with the corner of the screen small but noticeable still image with a dismiss button. It stopped for me recently but when it was happening it was 5/6 times I paused an advertisement would come up. It was very annoying most of the time it would take 5 seconds other times minutes. This is a very irritating by CorpTube. Let people pause in peace! I’ve never bought anything because of a RUclips never will.
