  • The Saxon logboat is one of the star pieces in our collection and a visitors' favourite.
It was dug out from the banks of the river Lea in Springfield Park, Clapton, in 1987. It dates back to between 950 and 1,000 A.D.
This short film shows how an exact replica of the original boat was made, using the same tools and techniques that would have been used by the Anglo Saxons.
The reconstruction of the Clapton logboat was commissioned by the Marine Archaeological Survey Unit.
Both the original logboat and its replica are on display at the Museum.
(Every effort has been made to track down the owners of the film, please get in touch if you have information)
