This class was designed to harass the enemy while putting in as much damage as possible from many ranges with little regard for defense. It's best defense is a strong offense which is constantly attacking while on the move so your enemy struggles to catch up to you.
I ve managed to get a highland sword after killing its owner with a javelin to the neck. The highland sword might be slow but if a skirmisher can go on a 20kill streak without even getting hit, what can a devastator do with that.

footman is often considered good for dueling, if you're like dueling with 1h weapons. also halberd being as strong as it is makes footmen pretty good for dueliing

With the oil pot it should be better than Officer IMO.
the warhorn is superior when it comes to most situations. Especially on Knight, you can get 200 health with a Greatsword which is insane!

It's based on what you value. Sure, you'll have more stamina but you'll also have a smaller health bar.
