When I saw the title I said "Oh no!" Hadn't realised that I had said it out loud until my wife asked me what was wrong with concern in her voice. Felt a bit of à bloody fool explaining about the death of not only a video game character but someone else's vidéo game character.
It's a black day.. an horrific black day indeed. Our beloved Dehavilland Mosquito ace has been lost along with Jaques his dear friend. As it is for many warriors.. the fog of war determines not who is right, nor will it determine who gets the glory.. it will only determine who is left. Eddie James career has been incredibly gripping, it has been tense, full of bewilderment and untold drama and turmoil and I can safely say I've enjoyed it greatly. Downing two FW190s shows that at least Eddie went down with a sword in his hand, the RCAF has lost a fine rose and my condolences goes out to his family and closest friends. In life I believe he was one of the FINEST Mossie pilots.. EVER to take to the sky, downing 9x Luftwaffe fighters before going down himself.. his life burned short, but VERY bright in the name of war. Would have loved to see a happy end but, as with many warriors.. the fog of war chose him. This series has been great taff.. loved it, your IL-2 content is the best on RUclips alongside Darth Vegan. If you plan another series in the future, give the BF110, Ju-87, P38 Lightning or even the BF109 a try.. just a thought that's all. What ever you decide, it'll be epic. Thanks for the great series, stay safe mate and happy gaming 👏 👍
Spotted the first flight of 190s high on your starboard side heading north at 2:21 shouted "contact" but of course it was already too late. By the way the family think I'm mad shouting at the computer monitor. Really love the way you present these IL2 campaigns.
Come on Taff, get a Typhoon or was it a Tempest campaign going...let us all rejoice in the sound of the recoil of them 20mm....it took skill to boom and zoom...loved those uploads
These videos demonstrate just how deadly the battle in the skies was. It also demonstrates how much luck plays in survival. RIP Eddie. You'll be missed. Also, Taff? The slant in the wings is known as dihedral..
Blast! another pilot and career gone...................so where to next? Flying Circus? Rise of Flight? or another Il2? Can't wait either way 😀 Nice one Taff
Really felt this one. I love the mosquito and was really enjoying following the adventures of Eddie and the Loping Lumberyard. RIP Eddie. Keep it up Taff, I discovered your channel a few months ago and I am loving your stuff!
Killed by hubris. It is unfortunate that the observer hasn't got the AI built into him to warn of an impending attack. Great training videos... "Don't be daft and do a Taff!" Look, hit and run.
Great career, if a bit short. Alas, with a hotspur like eddie, maybe it‘s what you should expect. So what‘s next? I‘d like to see either a WW1 Career, or maybe joyn the other team and do a normandy career in the 190..
190s we’re called butcher birds for a reason. Still good job taking out the ones you did. I bet the other navigators are sighing in relief not being assigned with Eddie anymore.
Ah RIP Eddie, shame really the mossie career in Normandy seems very tough. I really think it’s time our favourite rascal Alfie West made a comeback, proper career mode now in Flying Circus 🎉
Those four cannons in the wings of an Fw-190 are lethal Mosquito swatters. Never try dogfighting in a Mosquito, it rarely ends well if the guy in the 190 is a good pilot. Use the speed of your Mosquito to out-run him. You caught the first 190 unawares, shot him down with good shooting, and you forced the second guy to break and ditch his bombs. You had done your job of ruining his mission objective, but you handed him victory by turning after him. Open up those twin Merlins and hit the deck straight for home! Discretion is the better part of valour!
Do a Keith Miller RAAF Mosquito career. Played as an all rounder for the Australian Cricket Team and flew Mossies in 44/45 and may have also had an intimate run in with Princess Margaret.
insane idea for a long campaign: Fly Rise of flight as a German and survive the great war, then start an IL2 campaign using the WW1 german veteran background and go from IL2: Battle of Moscow to end of war. Only reason I suggest German is because I don't think you can do the entire Il2 campaigns as the same allied pilot, and the "veteran" background is interesting role play. Goal isn't to fly any specific plane (so squadron changes for plane variety would be good, perhaps even encouraged), the goal is to bring the pilot through both wars. Career speed would be "fast" mode, otherwise daily missions would mean it'd take thousands of sorties to get through both. If you're feeling really spicy; use cliffs of dover/tobruk as well for early war as well.
Good mission shame had to end. The bit where you notice jack had gone brilliant 😂. I think you ran into those 2 fighter bombers escort. You outrun the escort found the fighter bombers killed them & got caught by the escort.
A great video. Although in real life, that wouldn't have happened - after D-Day, there was no reason for German fighters or fighter bombers to fly over the Channel in daylight anymore.
As it was may 6, 1944, it was, as you may guess, exactly one month prior to d-day. So they might als well still have been trying bombing shipping on the channel or channel ports maybe
And so the greatest danger to Mosquito navigators in the RCAF is now removed from the scene. That flight of 190s has unknowingly done the allies a bit of a favor. And the ghost of Sebastian, the first innocent victim of Eddie's lack of impulse control and generally poor judgment, is smiling.
Another great series comes to an unfortunate end , I have to say I was really rooting for Eddie and Jacques this flight but alas it wasn’t so. Can’t wait for the next series Taff wonderful video as always!
Unfortunately, Jaques' repeated entreaties to be reassigned to a less foolhardy pilot went unheard. RIP Jacques, the service owed you better than this.
I couldn’t believe you tried to dogfight a FW-190 in a Mosquito. Once you shot down that first one, you should’ve carried on straight ahead, full throttle for Blighty.
tbh, cinematography of my dogfights would be boring. Diving, squirting, then running away. From a strictly combat point of view, you're absolutely correct.
Well, Taff, you've rightly been criticized by trying to dogfight a Mossy, and you know they're right. Every aircraft has it's strengths and weaknesses. Play the former, avoid the latter. I know this is just entertainment and you wish to be as entertaining as possible. But ......... well, you know. IL-2 lone wolf scenarios are bound to end badly and quickly, just as the real thing in WW2 - rhubarbs with singletons or pairs - had high loss rates. So, what's next, mate? Does IL-2 have the Me-262 jet?
Taff, you murderer! LOL you are getting reputation as a serial killer of pilots in your aerial series'. Let's recap this mission. A Mossie is not a dogfighter. As a fast heavy fighter, it excels at hit and run using its speed to leave danger in the dust. So, what did you do wrong? After you wisely fled those 4 190's over France, you got sucked into an engagement with the 2 bomb-laden 190's over the channel. You stuck around to to complete the downing of the second 190 allowing your pursuers to catch and destroy Eddie. As a solo pilot, you should always error on the side of being too conservative. Until you know for absolutely sure, those 4 190's were still in the hunt. It was clear that they were not additional ones flying with the 2 190's you encountered due to aircraft separation and recording their approach. You should have rightly downed the first, scattered the second then ditched it for home at max speed. I love your aerial series' but man, you got to stop murdering your pilots before they boycott you. "Taff flying today? I need a transfer!" Good luck on the next one and do fly smarter unless you are in something invincible. :)
Sadly true, he had several opportunities to spot the flight of 4 and missed them. Then he got target fixated. Still that FW190 did a fine deflection shot.
@@Julius_Hardwarealso they chased him a lot further than they normally would, when taff went down you could see the English coast so he was about halfway across the channel
Taff, I love all your series, as well as your narration and pathos, and I really don't want to be mean, but... I keep seeing you make the same mistakes over and over in all your IL-2 series, it keeps getting your pilots killed, and it's driving my batty 😩 May I please, PLEASE give you a little bit of friendly advice, from one virtual fighter pilot to another? 1) You really need to work on your situational awareness. This is probably the biggest single issue, IMO, and I can't stress it enough. Now, first off, I'm not saying you're oblivious or anything. You're definitely not! But I regularly spot things you apparently do not, and this is after RUclips has had its way with the video quality. That... is not a good sign. You also don't seem to be checking the full 'range' of your surroundings nearly enough, or thoroughly enough. 'Head on a swivel', and 'eyes like a hawk' - Those should be your mantras, my friend. 2) Another commenter made mention of your 'lack of impulse control and generally poor judgment' - Excessively mean, IMO, but... it is criticism that is not entirely without merit. Death comes quick in IL-2, and if you want to survive to experience the really neat stuff (D-Day and its aftermath, in Eddie's case) discretion, patience and self-control must be your watchwords. Just as an example: I think the turning point in this mission was when you followed that 190 fighter-bomber into that turn, after splashing the first one. I know you didn't see that other flight of 190s anymore. But that doesn't mean they weren't there, and you didn't consider what the consequences might be in the quite-likely case that they were still trying to catch you. As a result, Eddie and Jacque died. I'd bet if you had kept running instead of turning, just to be on the safe side, just in case... we'd have another episode of Eddie's career we'd be looking forward to right now, instead of mourning his loss. ANYWAYS... just some food for thought, man. Take care, and good hunting to you in the future, my friend!

Just got into IL2 a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying these videos. It's a shame that this is such a niche interest. You deserve more viewers.

Not to worry Eddie, I’ll take care of the Mrs.
God, Moggy! Where do you find the energy?
RIP Eddie!😪
with a Mosquito you must outrun everything.....dive if you must, but, never bank, just put 110% thrust and hit the deck.....your best chance
man that was a tough one to watch ,,,,..... eddie we hardly knew ye
the back seater really needs to be looking for the enemy behind as well ! Not once have you had a warning from them !
Appreciate the series, Taff! Hope you and yours are well and prosperous!
Cheers!
RIP Eddie! Maybe it's time to fire up Rise of Flight and the Eindekker?
Jack has bought it!
Whats next, maybe an FW190 Normandy career???
I'm in Oklahoma and I'm crying true story!😢
Very sorry to watch the demise of Eddie. Hopefully, an opportunity to return to WW1 air warfare...
RIP Taff!

Holy crap, that plane loots amazing. You using any mods for this game? Or is this out the box this good looking now, not played in a long time.
This one was intense.
Hot patootie flown by Eddie was shot down bless his soul he really was on a roll

And hello to you today, Moggy! Cuppa?
another keyboard warrior with no channel who can monday morning quarterback . Ah, youtube.
What aircraft next?
Just reinstalled this, thanks for this video. Are there any mods worth getting for this, tips for graphics?

A sad end indeed. How about reincarnate as James Eddy, P-38 recon... alone, unarmed, over enemy territory? I would watch that...
i always get night fighter missions i wish i would get operation jericho too

A marred day.
The one you don't see is the one that gets you
what are you using to look around here are you using head tracking of some sort
Well. That's a minor inconvenience for Eddie. Rather unusual for Germans to go that far over the channel but it is what it is.
Never fly in a straight line!!
Two back to back very very short careers which makes me sad 😢
Hi, I don’t have War Thunder but absolutely love this video. Could someone explain how these missions work in war thunder or is it a mod?
This is not War Thunder but IL-2.
@@gorejan1 appreciate the reply!
I can't help but think you were tailed the whole way home to the English Coast?🤷
Mosquito has no antenna why?..
You got killed cause you stuck around to see those 2 planes you killed. Should have turned abandon burned after you smoked em.
Mosquitos would not be my choice for dog fighting, not exactly the most agile plane.
