Very pretty! Love hearing the Irish! I'm coming back next spring to hike the Irish Way! I'm going to be looking into going to school there for Irish while I'm there. I'm impressed with your Irish, keep up the good work, and lovely voice too! Hoping to hear some sean-nos in some pubs as I go walk through the country.
This sounds positively sylvan! You know, high fantasy could save Gaelic if instead of the Tolkein conlang we all use Gaelic as the language of the elves! Kind of like how the elves of Dragon Age are stand ins for the Celtic people.
Absolutely charming. My grandparents on both sides were from Ireland. There are still some strings in me which thrummed to this sound - helped along by a singer who is easy on the eyes!
You've got the accent down very well. I suggest singing it a bit more slowly. And there's a long-drawn out end to the 3rd line of each verse. Here's a native speaker singing it in her front garden ruclips.net/video/4HF4q1Db09I/видео.html
I haven’t heard this since I was a kid! After my grandmother passed it’s almost as if this song went with! I never knew the name of it! Na rudaí a chailleann muid!
I didn't understand a blessed word, but loved every bit of it. That's an outstanding job, when you can make jibberish (to my ears) sound fantastic. My whole life I've liked Irish music and this was truly one of the best I've ever heard. 👏
I've heard many versions of this song by many different people, including Irish speakers-and even have a playlist for just this song alone-and your pronunciation is genuinely amazing! Not Americanized at all. Keep up the great work! Sláinte.
Níl sé deacair, b'fhéidir go bhféadfainn Gaeilge a mhúineadh do na garpháistí. Tá an iníon-chéile 100%, níl mo thaobhsa ach ar bheagán Gaeilge ó na 1750idí leis na Boones ag dul go dtí na Carolinas, ansin suas bearna Cumberland go Kentucky. Is breá linn na teangacha, agus tá na leabhair againn. Tá mé rud beag níos Gaelaí leis an gcontae, féilte Dhún na nGall agus an mhála-phíobáin.. Is dócha nach bhfuil sé chomh maith leis na Gaeil.

Math fhèin! Sgoinneil! Sin thu fhèin! (Excellent! Brilliant! Well done!) I've been learning Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig), a closely related sister language of Irish, for about two years now. It's been a challenge, but it's been worth it! Part of my motivation is to learn to sing in Scottish Gaelic. I want to commend you for your dedication to learning the language and learning to sing in it. You do it beautifully! Cùm a' dol! (Keep going!)
Your pronunciation is great. It's always a surprise to me to hear "Frank" rather than "Guile" in reference to the French, but that's just because of the version I learned first.
Love this song, Gaelic the most beautiful language on earth, I love Scottish Gaelic the most because the way the words are pronpunced compared to Irish and Welsh Gaelic. Plus for some reason it's easier to remember for me for some bizarre reason while I'm learning.
Nice! Say, anyone think this melody was lifted for more recent songs? I'm reminded of an O, Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack song, "Let's Go Down To The River." Someone else here mentioned "Drunken Sailor," but I think the resemblance there is superficial.
Sweet Jesus that affected me... Right in the middle parts where my heart would be. some strange feeling that spead to my eyes and it feels like my ears turned red. What sorcery is this!?
Tir gan teanga, tir gan anam! I am American of Irish decent, I surprised a man fro Kerry the other day, by speaking to him in Irish. Young Irish people have to save the language. It is a shame that there are only three areas that speak Irish on a regular basis--the whole country (north and south) should have a working knowledge of their own language.
I was in a tiny pub in the Aran Islands, and I was the only foreigner. An old man told me that Gaelic was the language of the poor people. I told him in his own tongue that you are only poor if you let someone take your language. Hopefully, the people of Ireland catch onto this fact. There is a classic scene in "The Winds that Shakes the Barley," where the Black and Tans ask the names of the young men captured there and Michael O'Sullivan answers in Irish. They take his life, but he never allowed them to take his language.
@@brianhogg9857It's Irish. The word Gaelic is an anglicized form of "Gaeilge," which means "Irish," as in the language itself. So just say "Irish" when referring to the language. Also, Gaelic more often refers to Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig).
@@MartinGoff-tl6nx I noticed your comment in Irish, “Tir gun teanga, tir gun anam.” (A land without a language is a land without a soul.”) Would you believe the phrase is almost exactly the same in Scottish Gaelic? Beautifully sung. Every time I hear something sung in Gaelic, it reminds me that while the English language has its own beauty, we lost something in Britain as we were invaded and adopted other settlers over the centuries that you only really still find in Scotland and Wales.

I always imagine Patrick Pearse walking to the courtyard where he was to he shot, whistling this song in defiance to the British.
