Sub Soilers without wings on the digging points is just a multi point trench digger as you discovered when u tried to push your posts in in between the lines. You need the wings to UpLIFT and SHATTER the sub soil in between the points. We use wings 10" wide and thet work a treat. Front slicing Coulter discs are a MUST have also. Great Plains makes one of the best. Its called a No Till Sub Soiler. VERY expensive though. The magic is in the wings.

I have run an aerator over our pastures for quiet a few years, so much so that I am having to replace the tips on the shanks. ;) I drag on old harrow from the back of my renovator to knock down any clods and scatter the manure. Really helps. And, when I put out winter rye, the rain washes some of the seed into the rows and it looks like I planted it in rows! ;)

I’d imagine in areas where water seems to runoff more when it rains a lot, running the renovator perpendicular to that can help slow it down and get in the ground better. I got one as well and did that in one field but we haven’t had much rain either to notice a big difference yet
