    Great video! I love Mainstage for church keys, but I’ve never really thought of using it to commit “real” audio for recording without being able to go back and adjust the midi. Will have to try!

    I enjoyed the video; I always learn a lot from you. The problem is, I cannot play the piano. I also prefer to record audio tracks, but I feel I have to be really good at an instrument to think it is good enough for public consumption. I play the flute and ukulele so I usually can play satisfactory simple audio tracks over MIDI based backing tracks, but nothing too technical or challenging otherwise it would not be good enough. Despite drawbacks, MIDI does allow me to produce more complicated songs. BTW: Yamaha bought Boesendorfer-kind of the best of both worlds. We have a Yamaha-Boesendorfer at church and it is a amazing for a much lower price than a German made Boesendorfer. Thanks for all your efforts.

    Hey Joe, I understand that sometimes, as non-Logic users, we want access to some of the sounds from that platform. I’ve, previously, had Logic slaved to my Pro Tools.
    It’s a good go-to set of sounds, and it’s cheap. If there’s just a little bit of money, I have found plenty of third party libraries with sounds, that are much better, more current.
    Good, informative videos. Thank you for that! (For obvious reasons I skip the ones aimed at Presonus users.)

    That's not really convoluted, that's a pretty standard workflow. That's how I do it all the time. I use XLN, Omnisphere and Keyscape.

    hi joe. not a bad set up. but im just curious, why dont you just record directly in your daw? i understand the part where you dont have a super fast computer but studio one gives you the option to record midi, which in essence you're already doing from your laptop because you are using a midi keyboard triggering sounds, and then just converting the midi track to an audio track. all you gotta do is right click and choose convert to audio track or something like that. cant remember the exact wording. when you do this, studio one treats and processes that track as an audio track and it doesnt take long to render that audio. certainly faster than booting up your laptop and setting everything up. plus lets say u do mess up if a finger slips n plays a wrong note by mistake, you dont have to waste time rerecording that part. with midi u can quickly move the note and you're done. a quick 3 second fix. render the audio and you have an audio track just as if you recorded it from your laptop. ive recorded entire songs using pure midi instruments n my computer isnt superfast either. my work around this is converting the midi track to audio track and im good to go. why dont you try it out. you might just like this alternate work flow and be able to save some time on the long run.

    When you already have the current StudioLive: Could you just connect you Laptop directly to it using AVB? This would probably give you better sound quality, lower latency and higher flexibility in patching 🤔

    Notice that you have a Motif there - have you ever been able to hook that thing up to Studio One as a dedicated midi VST - meaning that you can play and record midi into S1 with it and then upon playback get S1 to trigger midi playback (accessing the many wonderful patches and arps on the Motif)? Because I sure as heck haven't been able to figure this out. Only solution appears to be getting a copy of Cubase and downloading the Motif VST editor from Yamaha, unless there's another solution. (I'm not fond of Cubase and I avoid it like the plague). Wish PreSonus would build something in cohoots with Yamaha to get this thing to work. Reason I even bother asking is that the Motif (as you know) has some absolutely amazing layered patches. Thanks again.

      S1 and Yamaha work together will not happen, as Yamaha owns Steinberg, so you automaticly get a copy of Cubase Light with just about any Yamaha keyboards plus a mixer setup for cubase, but VST is a standard that every DAW on the market uses (minus Protools), so nothing wrong with just loading it in your S1. S1 is a great DAW just as Cubase, just different work flows. S1 is a pretty young system compared to Cubase, wich can have both pro's and con's. I personly find any other newer DAWs lacking in the midi department compared to Cubase, but thats propably because I have used Steinberg since the early Atari days, but its really a personly opinion what system you like or you are used to work with. If people are just starting out any DAW can be an alternative. Only thing I find annoying these days is that what used to be called "event editor" now called "list editor" in Cubase requires people to buy the Pro version of Cubase. That used to be the standard midi editor in Cubase years ago. What brought me to Joe's video's is I have been working a bit with S1 as it came with a Presonus Audiobox 22vsl I baught and it integrates with their mixers, wich Im working on convincing my band to invest in. I just wish that all the different digital mixer companies could come up with a common standard for interconnection, instead of them all having their own standard. Just imagine if you could connect your Presonus direct to a Midas console, wich is a bit out of the price range for many smaller bands sound gear, but commonly used by pro sound companies.

    I see the mainstage app for 30 dollars on my old 2007 imac. but they have nothing for an ipadpro, so i think im out of luck, unless apple lets me download the mainstge app on this old imac which doubt. oh well it was a great idea anyway, thanks Joe!

    • @resslerartstudios
      @resslerartstudios 5 лет назад

      yup cant do it i need the 10.12 or higher OS . this old imac is done, the classic planned obsolesce as only apple can do.

    • @HomeStudioCorner
      @HomeStudioCorner  5 лет назад

      I think it’s less planned obsolescence and more the reality that computers double in speed every 18 months. So it makes sense that software manufacturers will make their software utilize the added speed.

    when you have time, main recording station is StudioOne4.5.2/interface1824/and WINPC- I have an apple, ipadpro/Audioboxi2/and a yamaha p115....The mainstage sounds I believe I would buy and have on the ipadpro, didn't see anything like that in the app store. could you provide a bit more detail on setting this up? I have all the midi cables...convoluted is the wrong word. just a bit confusing as the setup. perhaps im missing something. or the ipad pro just cut it.
