Yeah, there are some colors that were not part of the original EGA 16. The old games also used a dithering effect to create the illusion of more colors. I just added the extra color where dithering would be needed (since the pixel plugin for flash didn't let me dither) A lot of the sprites were traced over the in game sprites.
I don't know whether to cheer or cry with joy first. The Space Quest games were my favourite series growing up and you have captured every aspect of them so perfectly... thank you. Thank you so much for making this, I can't put anything else into words for just how incredible this is.
This is one of the coolest bits of modern-retro nostalgia I’ve seen in years. I LOVE everything about it! Classic graphics. Classic music. Classic humor and spirit. GREAT WORK!
Months later and this is still one of my favorite animations. Thank you for this! (also the newspaper at the intro remains one of my favorite things that exists)
I respect you for remembering this awesome franchise... and the two guys, hah that's awesome... Man, you're right, though... Ever since Sierra took a dump (I always feel extremely nostalgic when I think back of those times), things just went down the drain for the entire gaming industry.
Oh how I want to see more of Sir Wilco. You guys rock. I wish some more games were made. Side note : I recently started playing the Quest for Glory series again.
Oh, wow, the Space Quest games. I loved playing them as a kid, even though my english back then was pretty poot. I had more than one nostalgic moment when I watched this vid :) And Activision has the SQ rights?!? DAMNIT! They ARE soulless! They and EA. Anyways, love watching this video. I hope Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe will see it, too!
This is my favourite Bowz cartoon! It makes me sad that it's got millions less views than the other videos by Bowz. It just proves that the general youtube audience 1. don't subscribe or if they do, don't use subscriptions and 2. only watch things if it's based on a popular/current game. :(
I never played a game of this, but the meaning of this video is awesome, and the animation and love for the clasic adventure games is just great. This is my favorite bowz video too
Thanks James, yeah I tried to keep it limited to the EGA 16 colors. That pixel style is harder than I thought it would be.
Ok, this is just am amazing homage to Space Quest.
It's that 16 color EGA, there was a charm in how much the old games squeezed out of their own limitations.
I loved the CEO sequence when the one was spinning on the floor, hilarious!

I'm not sure exactly, it was roughly 10 weeks nights and weekends. I can only work on my stuff at night, because I have a day job.
So much awesomeness. Wilco's horrendous SQ1 pixelation, PC speaker door sounds and fetching kreycards from dead bodies. Great job!
This is the most AWESOMEST thing I have ever seen in my entire life.
I used a pixel plugin for flash.. It's called "Pixel tools". I wanted to start this earlier, but didn't have time until July.
I don't know whether to cheer or cry with joy first. The Space Quest games were my favourite series growing up and you have captured every aspect of them so perfectly... thank you. Thank you so much for making this, I can't put anything else into words for just how incredible this is.

GREAT WORK!
Yeah those are sprites from SQ3, which I believe were based on real people at Sierra. Definitely Ken Williams walking down the street :D
Why am I just only seeing this now? Damn youtube recommendations! haha
Made me smile til it hurt.
Man, this made me so happy. Best thing I've seen in years! Decades even!!!
You should check out Full Throttle, it was pretty damn good.
Really impressive pixel animation, best one I have seen in a great time!
Thank you for making me feel 15 years younger :)
This is awesome! Although what blows my mind the most, is the fact it looks and animates like the old VGA classic.
I'm a big Space Quest fan, and I can't thank you enough for this. Awesome animation skills!
This is what space venture should have been.
deserves more views... rly gr8 content.
Absolutely love the music, and sound in general is great!
I HATE THAT IT TOOK ME 8 YEARS TO SEE THIS
Months later and this is still one of my favorite animations. Thank you for this! (also the newspaper at the intro remains one of my favorite things that exists)
Yeah, there was some weirdness with frames being dropped, it should all be resolved now.
Just had a nostalgiagasm after watching this. EVERYTHING is just like the 3 original games.
Mind blown... flashbacks to playing Space Quest 3 on my Amiga in 1990.
I'm a Space Quest/Roger Wilco lover and I can't believe I'm JUST NOW seeing this. Great work! Have the two guys seen this?
Boy I wish the Two Guys from Andromeda could see this
Thank you for this, space quest was my favourite Sierra series I played growing up in the 90s
OMG this video is filled with so much WIN!!!
nostalgia overload man! awesomely done!
Lol, what's Dovahbear up to in the Death Star?
Holy crap, an animation based on my favorite game of all time...
Fuzzing.
EPIC.
The atmosphere is just perfect.
So much emotion, so much passion! That was amazing!
Yes, it was more time consuming than I anticipated. I'm using a pixel tool plugin for Flash that makes things a bit easier.
Pixel art style simple, yet fantastic work. Absolutely astounding and very much reminding of Dragons Lair or Space Ace
Pure joy, i cannot describe how good it was, please continue to share your talent with us.
How have I not seen this before? Awesomes!
Very well done! I love how you blended the sprites with your original character art.
Very cool. Feels very much like an extension to SQ3 somehow... my favourite of all SQs
I respect you for remembering this awesome franchise... and the two guys, hah that's awesome...
Man, you're right, though... Ever since Sierra took a dump (I always feel extremely nostalgic when I think back of those times), things just went down the drain for the entire gaming industry.
And are the four guys at 0:05 anybody in particular? I think I might see Ken Williams there, but I'm not entirely sure.
It's not out yet, it says "in production"
I don't understand how I haven't seen this until now. It's brilliant and just my thing.
Channel needs more Sierra game animations!
Geez!! your level of animation is to be admired man.
This video was clever in many ways. Great job, and bless you for giving Astro Chicken justice.
extremely well done and love the music at 1:55
That was amazing! The pixel animation is super impressive. Must have taken forever!
wow fantastic job i always adored the certain charm of 8 or 16 bit art and animation
Why Astro Chicken? How could you do this to me?
Popping back in to say this is still my favorite animated piece on RUclips.
One day, we'll see Wilco free. 😢
This awesome animation needs more hits.
This is really really really good. Like i can't explain how good this is.
reminded me of old childhood games on the NES
The 2 guys busting out astro chicken was a great touch.
I think the fact iv never saw space quest made this video even more hilarious. Your awesome ! Your animations are awesome! :D
We need a continuation of this adventure! :D
2:08 seriously best part
Agreed! Whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop!
Actually, that's pretty much how it sounded, minus the sound effects, when using a MT-32 music synthesizer.
So amazing :) I keep coming back to watch this. I love this retro pixel art :D Great work Bowz!
Yes I draw all of it. Drawing is a good place to begin. There's some good books out there on animation too. Message me if you want more info.
Oh how I want to see more of Sir Wilco. You guys rock. I wish some more games were made.
Side note : I recently started playing the Quest for Glory series again.
I can't believe I've only just seen this! Great Job!
This was freaking awesome, Bowz!
Wow man! As a huge fan of the Space Quest game series, this was a joy to watch! Thank you for this. :)
Thanks for your comment, I love when Space Quest fans discover this video. It was equally a joy to create!
Haha, I love this! You should make a series out of this, it's awesome.
This walk-through really helped out, how was I supposed to know to free the exploding chicken, thanks dude.
dude, this was awesome
wow this looks like mark crowe's graphics too.. the sarien ship interior looks almost exactly the same u guys did a great job on this
We need a new Space Quest game in the worst way. Amazing animation though!
WOW this was AWESOME! totally deserves more views man!
that good sir, is epic beyond words. I grew up playing space quest. this is awesome!
2012 but I've only just seen this. This is awesome! Yes "Free Wilco!"
Oh, wow, the Space Quest games. I loved playing them as a kid, even though my english back then was pretty poot. I had more than one nostalgic moment when I watched this vid :)
And Activision has the SQ rights?!? DAMNIT! They ARE soulless! They and EA.
Anyways, love watching this video. I hope Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe will see it, too!
This was bloody well perfect! Excellent work!
2:07 "Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop!"
Dude that was awesom!!! Million thumbs up! Love the old egi feel.
free wilco!
This is one epic fan animation! And I especially like Roger's new look!
So Siera games is coming back...
Fantastic! Brings back so many memories!
this kicks ass i love the pixelated animation style it reminds me of beneath a steel sky especially with the first music track that plays
Kinda makes you wonder what other titles Activision is holding hostage while they milk CoD for beyond what it's worth…
Long live Space Quest!
I took all of the *.dll files and renamed them, then opened it up in flash... this is what I found.
Animbowz is seriously one of the best animators ever!!! He never fails to impress me :)
You really captured the SQ feel. Great job!
Thanks! Sorry if that was confusing, next project is all Dovahbear :)
Awesome VGA graphics in this! The Space Quest games are awesome and you captured the look of them amazingly well =D
I love the whistle music in the beginning where did you get it?
It's easy once you learn how to use windows 92
This would be great as cut scene/scenes in a video game!!
The dovahbear videos are cool, but this one is your best so far.
I loved it, good work!
I did, and now that you mention it, it does resemble that style. Great game. I'm currently playing Fate of Atlantis, which I never finished before.
This is my favourite Bowz cartoon! It makes me sad that it's got millions less views than the other videos by Bowz. It just proves that the general youtube audience 1. don't subscribe or if they do, don't use subscriptions and 2. only watch things if it's based on a popular/current game. :(
TIL: Unpopular themes get less views.
I never played a game of this, but the meaning of this video is awesome, and the animation and love for the clasic adventure games is just great.
This is my favorite bowz video too
You can see that the part where Dovahbear appears is the most replayed part
Correction. Forgot the MT-32 actually handles a few sound effects as well.
Not only is there a cameo of Dovabear, but a Dovabear 3 is coming? AWESOME.
that was great. i especially loved the ships at the end, shaped like skulls. that's SO FUCKING BADASS.
this is awesome on so many levels! big thanks!
