    You Forgot It In People is one of the best indie rock albums of all time.

    • @hissorchid
      @hissorchid 7 лет назад +15

      It's possibly one of the greatest albums of all time. My personal favorite of all time.

    • @Lynchotype
      @Lynchotype 7 лет назад +1

      One of the greatest of all time is a major stretch, not sure it would make it even into many top 10s of the 2000s.

    • @hissorchid
      @hissorchid 7 лет назад +13

      James Marlon Are we listening to the same record? Every track on that thing is innovative, beautiful, creative, well produced, and basically fucking perfect in every way; With the exception of Pacific Theme (which should have never been on the record it should have just transitioned from Looks Just Like ---> Anthems).
      If that record had included Backyards and Da Da Da Da from the same recording sessions, and had a great cover, You Forgot It in People would be the undisputed best fucking record of the 2000s, and objective contender for all time.

    • @Lynchotype
      @Lynchotype 7 лет назад +4

      You're letting your emotional attachment take over, even with those songs it hardly comes close to the impact of records like Kid A or Funeral. What it lacks is that it wasn't a game changer, we've heard this kinda of music before in post rock and experimental circles despite being put together beautifully in the album. You say it would be an objective contender of all time with those songs but if you look at how it's held up in the musical community you'll see that it most definitely wouldn't be. I could name at least another 10-20 albums form the 2000s that are held in a higher regard than it.

    • @hissorchid
      @hissorchid 7 лет назад +8

      James Marlon I don't know man, most places I read hype YFIiP really hard. And even then I'd still call it a criminally underrated album.
      Barring any emotional connection, objectively, I think these songs pass with flying colors by really any objective measure. And I think you are really underselling the impact the record had in sculpting Indie music as a whole, and the affect it had on records like Funeral and Feels. And even then I think the impact a record has is less of something to go off of in terms of determining the best albums of a decade than simply the music itself. Which as I said, is fucking astounding in e every way.
      I mean besides Kid A and Funeral, (which are definitely contenders I don't argue there), what are these multitudes of albums you speak of that so obviously out class YFIiP to you?

    I'd give it an 8. It's a consistently enjoyable record with a few really great songs. Wish more people commented on the music.

      @BallotBoxer 7 лет назад +8

      Agreed. I was quite happy with this one too. The only downside was the somewhat muddied, low-fi sound (which was fine in the earlier albums, but I miss the clarity found in some of the members' other work)

      I would've liked if there was another faster paced track (like Halfway Home) to break it up a bit after the halfway point. If I listen to the whole album it gets a bit boring to me after like half an hour and I don't really even notice tracks changing after that anymore.

    After listening to the album for a couple of weeks, I think it's at least an 8 out of 10. The melodies, instrumental fills, and the general instrumentation are superb. Lyrics have never been a strong point for the band, but they work well in each song. It's another triumph for Broken Social Scene. Everyone should hear this album, though it takes a couple of weeks of playing a few songs at a time that you like at a time (not necessarily in the album order) in order to pierce their wall of sound and truly appreciate the album as a whole. Eventually you listen to more and more of the songs and realize they're all great and memorable.

    But I do disagree that the title track is nothing special. It is gorgeous and classic BSS for me, and actually one of my all-time favorites from them. The album as a whole is a solid 8/10 I'd say. Much better than FRR.

  • @ob2395

      Edward O'Brien I'm a huge BSS fan and I think this is their weakest record honestly, however it's still excellent. It's hard to rate it because I think everyone who likes this band is emotionally attached to the albums in some way. What a wonderful collective. Seeing them at Osheaga in August, my body is not ready.

      @ob2395 7 лет назад +4

      It's grown on me more and more with every listen. I honestly think it might be their best since YFIIP, but every album is a stone cold hammer. Enjoy the festival. Very jealous ;P

    I gotta ask, in what way is the singing on Halfway Home more gutsy than that on Bad, Where The Streets Have No Name, Ultraviolet, Exit, Zoo Station, A Sort Of Homecoming, No Line On The Horizon, Mofo?... the list of driving U2 anthems with far gutsier singing goes on.

    You should review rap monster's mixtape RM. He is Korean, but I imagine a translation isn't hard to find. I'm not some koreaboo or shit like that, I just kinda stumbled across this guy and found his mixtape, and honestly, it was pretty good. It's a good 7-8/10 in my eyes. Most of his songs cross different styles of hophop too, and even what I like to call car chase music in the song ditch, which is a really good track.

    I'd say give Please Take Me With You another listen. Look at it by itself apart from Gonna Get Better. I agree with most of the points stated here, but, I haven't been hooked on a song in a really long time as much as I am now on Hug of Thunder (especially the repeated (...verse...bridge?) second part of the song, Feist voice is just too angelous there) I would go with 8 for this reason.
