Frankie Thomas was one of my childhood heroes, thanks to his four seasons as the title character in the kiddie sci-fi adventure series, "Tom Corbett, Space Cadet". I probably only saw the last two seasons, as I was only 7 when the series ended. But I bought the Tom Corbett novels, comic books, toys, etc. To be sure, it was nowhere near the artistic level of this excellent movie, or even of the Nancy Drew films. Not too familiar with Helen Parris's work as a child actor, but more of her sadly short adult. career. I recall a version Of this same story I saw in a theater when I was about 12, but I do believ I prefer this film. Thanks for another fine selection.
This movie totally distorted the original novel written by Ouida. In the novel, Nello and his dog both starved and froze to death in the church, totally rejected by the townspeople.
Beautiful film, and high quality, thank you for posting.
What a lovely story and dog .
Thanks alot 👍
A DOG OF FLANDERS was seen aired on American Movie Classics. It was a charming heartwarming classic movie.

Welcome back! I've missed you. Thank you for explaining about the other film.
I am watching all of the versions
I always remembered the dog's name being Patrasche.
In the original novel written by Ouida, both Nello and Patrasche starved and froze to death in the church.

Yes, I read the novel. The same thing happened in a few adaptations.

The actress, Helen Parrish, here playing the little girl, died of cancer at age 35.
How sad, I didn't know that
Visually appealing film- Edward Sloman had a fine eye, but a sluggish pace.
