I never comment on youtube, but I had to stop by to say this is probably the BEST gear comparison video I have ever seen. All others, PLEASE take note on how it is done, its really not that hard. Congratulations and thank you sir.
You're not kidding "The Best" comparison on RUclips. For a number of reasons, but #1 would be each amp was played back to back without talking. Your ear doesn't forget what it just previously heard before the next one in line gets played. This video was topnotch ! Professional in every way!
Thank you for actually spending time on clean settings. That is something so many channels are lacking when comparing and reviewing amps and it's really important (to me anyways) that you can really hear the clean character of an amp.
Vox sounds open and has a really pleasing high end. Blues Junior sounds boxy and like someone threw an old duvet over the cab. Vox everyday of the week. Plus the AC15 is a slice of musical history!
I’d give the Fender the edge on a few clean sounds, but for the most part the Vox rocked this comparo. I think it may have a better speaker, too. Just a hunch. The cleans were sometimes too bright, but I think that can be handled. The drive sounds were WAY better on the Vox.
I agree-on the speaker thing- and would take it a step farther and say the cab size as well. I am surprised that I like the BJ at all-because generally I have no use for them-but this one is passable.
This is such an awesome channel!!! Straight to the point, no talking, very helpful comparisons... I'm fed up of people making 1 hour video with 58 min talking about useless stuff (looks like they are more worried about showing themselves instead of the products), and only 2 minutes of sound. Congrats!!!
your comparison pulled me back to Vox AC15 from Fender Hot Rod. Going to get it ASAP. Thank you so much. This was by far the best comparison video on youtube for either of the amps.
I've had Fenders, Marshalls, Laneys, Victory amps, Riveras, a Messa Boogie, and I prefer the AC15c1x I have to all of them, running it in stereo with my H&K Puretone is just tone bliss..
I have both and this video does not do the Blues JR justice.. It sounds way different in the room and I think before making a decision everyone should play both because they’re very different amps. To me.. the Blues JR has been much harder to dial with pedals and other effects, the vox is definitely easier to plug and play into but don’t sleep on the Blues JR they’re both amazing little LOUD amps
Hearing these back to back really highlights the high fidelity spacious open chime AC15 is know for. They are both very good but back to back, the Vox really stands out as very musical and dynamic while the Fender seems thin and flat. Great demo!
@@lo5man Nah man, just stick a Greenback in it. I've had my Blues Jr for ten years now, but I swapped out the stock speaker for the Greenback within the first 3 months. Massive difference. It's a much less efficient speaker - 97 db - meaning it overdrives at much lower volumes. Nice and "spongy". Great for classic rock and just loves pedals. Simple mod. Unscrew the back of the chassis , remove the speaker spade connectors, remove the speaker screws. Pop new speaker in, reverse the process. Simple. You'll NEVER look back!
This is so true. There's a used blue's Jr available at a local shop and I came here to see if I needed to add it to my stable with my already owned AC15. After listening to this comparison, let's see legitimately no reason to buy blues junior. I guess it didn't realize how sweet of a amp I already had.
This was one of the best demos of these amps that I've seen that actually lets you understand their range of tones. That blues junior volume was cranked up for those drive tones. Must have been crazy loud. I much preferred the drive tone on the Vox but thought the pedals sounded much better through the blues junior.
Couldn’t agree more... I have both these amps (my jrs are modded) the vox has superior drive tones, and the fenders make a better clean pedal platform.... (and I run that little jr with an attenuator to save my face!!)

It still sounds great. It does also have real spring reverb and the cleans are fantastic. I think the drive is better on the vox, but pedals are really good on blues Jr.
I've recently gone through this same choice - AC15 or Blues Junior. Found it hard until I did this same exercise in store. I had on a few occasions gone and tried them both separately and was paralysed with indecision because they were both so good. Then I found a retailer with both in stock, and happy to set up an A/B pedal for me. The decision took less than 5 mins - the Vox blew the blues junior out of the water in every area. More than anything the fender sounded boxy as hell and I think that's the case here as well. That said, I've since had an opportunity to play the tweed version (I wouldn't swap my vox for it) and I think it's a much better amp than the black version. If you like the Blues Junior then definitely try the tweed before you buy.
The tweed is the way to go. I think the only difference is the speaker, but it makes up for it. Blues Junior is a great first (and maybe only) good amp. It does everything you need in modern settings and it's easy to change things that make it sound like a totally different amp.
@@RogerThat902 I own both the Black BJ IV and Tweed Blues junior. When comparing the two, the black is very boxy and muted of its highs when compared to the Tweed. I’ll be selling the Black BJ IV as i never play it after getting the tweed.
@@fatamorgana4318 how do you want it to sound like? Some suggestions: All Jensens. Eminence: Tonker, Legend 1258, CV 75, Swamp Thang, Wizard, Private Jack, Lil Texas. Celestion: Creamback 75, Redback, G 12-65, Greenback, Vintage 30.
best review style ever! Thank you for taking the personality out of it and giving us a real comparison! (this is not a critique of your past vids- rather the overall youtube style)
Playing exact riff exchange with instant panning as you did gives your comparison gives your vid 10 gold stars. Very well done. I'm a fender deluxe guy, but the Vox straight in sounds so much better than the JR. However the JR takes pedals way better than the Vox. Be great to piggy back both on stage and effects loop pedals through the JR.
The fender was much tighter bottom on the overdriven sounds, so depends on what style of music you want to play. But both had studio worthy tones, especially the cleans. Nice playing!
I've been tossing up over these two amps for days. Thanks for the video, it's confirmed my choice is the Vox. Both amps are great but I can't go past the extra mids in the Vox, which ensure you always hear yourself on stage. Also great for punching through a band mix without masking the key frequencies of the other instruments.
Had both and gave the Vox to my grandson. I love the Blues jr for everything it does and lasts forever! Crank the volume and turn up master and use the guitar volume and it is in good breakup pushing it sounds on my custom built Strat with a set of Clapton/Meyer style custom wound pickups.
I'm a Marshall and Fender guy but I have to say the blues jr has always been overpriced, overhyped and underwhelming - Vox (also overpriced) shows that clearly here. Great vid and perfect format btw.
I think the B jr sounds a little better when you cut the mids, bring up the low end more than the highs, the cabinet size definitely makes a difference, Ive' plugged a small 1X10(200 watt eminence speaker) bass cabinet into it, sounds pretty good for low volume bass
Great comparison! Cleans goes to BJR and amp break up goes to Vox to my ears. Is was split on the pedals. One thing no one mentions is the ac15 weighs 48.5 pounds while the BJR clocks in at 31lbs. Almost 50 lbs is a lot of weight for a 15w amp.
I have the (much bigger) Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue, and it's my favourite gigging amp by far. Looking at smaller amps, I've tried Blues Juniors but always found them very poor. The Vox sounds great in this video, and unsurprisingly, the Fender comes second to it.
Great vid. As others have said, this is how a gear review should be done. Excellent sound recording quality, consistent and thorough demo of how each reacts. Most importantly, no showing off or monologuing!! Let the gear do the talking. I don't even know what the producer looks like or what his/her voice sounds like (both a good thing for a demo). I have both amps. Both have their merits and detractions. The Bjr is light, the Vox is quite heavy. The BJr has a narrower sound spectrum, but has a simple straightforward control panel, whereas the Vox can give you ear fatigue unless you dial in the myriad of interactive controls just right (hint, use the tone cut liberally). The Vox is louder, like a 50w amp loud. The Bjr natural breakup gets a bit flubby if pushed, the Vox a bit treble-spikey. Both do clean and edge of breakup very well, as perfectly demoed above. Run them in stereo, however and they complement each other surprisingly well.
Thanks. Exactly how I see it on the different tones of the amps. The BJ is much more mid rangey, the box more forward in the treble and scooped. Blended they fill in the gaps in each others sound 👍
Best comparison I've seen [heard!]. Vox clearly outstrips the Fender. I've never used a Vox but have some experience with the Blues Junior. Considering my options...
Both awesome. For me, I'd take the Fender 9 days out of 10 for that clean sound - but that Vox sounds great also (especially if you're into that British rock sound). Down to taste and style more than issues over quality here.
Brilliant comparison video. I’ve had a BJR for several years and have used it at home most of the time because my Blues Hot Rod DeVille that 2x12 only comes out when no one else is home. Recently I acquired a gently used AC15C1 at a very good price which I am still getting to know. This helps immensely to sort them out. At this point I generally use the Fenders for my humbucker guitars while my RIC w/ toaster PUPs has a newfound openness and chime through the Vox.
This was great! As someone who’s been looking into getting another amp for home and jam sessions these are obvious win win picks and the way you did the ol’ switcharoo back n forth really was a great way to compare. Well played sir! I’ll take the Vox now please!
I did my own comparison when I looked for a modeler and got a VTX40. I guess I prefer the sound because in this contest I choose the Vox again. Cleans are both very nice but after that it's not that close imo.
I liked them both but the Vox has a more flexible tone section, a great tremolo, the drive is also good in addition to the more open and fuller sound ... I love the Fender amps and guitars, but the Vox amps have something more than I like it very much. A Vox AC30 and a Fender Bassman are all good for me. Rory Gallagher knew how good this duo was.
Great comparison. Thank you! I strongly preferred the Vox (that top boost dirty sound - yeow) but did like the Fender edge of breakup and with pedals 1, and those are some very important sounds for a lot of players. So I’m with those who vote both!
Great comparisons! WOW! I think I would need to know if and when the fat switch is engaged in the junior in the earlier part of the demo, it makes a huge difference on cleans and edge of break up, and looks like no difference on dirty, lol. I would call the Fender more chimney, and the Vox richer. The Vox wins on the high drive sounds because of the added option of the top boost. Both are great amps, the Fender might sit better in the mix because if the added chime I hear.
Vox hands down, and I own the Blues Jr. The Junior just cuts too much of the low end of the guitar. I am going to modify my blues Jr input capacitors and tone stack.
wow what a great demo. I finally had someone take enough time to hear the clean channel on the vox. I was thinking about getting a Princeton but now I’m gonna have to consider that vox.😅
I bought a Blues Jr out of a box in a shop, Day after TG sale, $400 in '06, Diamond Series. Had played them before but that day, looking for a Rivera Champ II that the owner wisely took home. Jr sounded great (floor model didn't work, spkr unplugged?) but when I got it home, vol was super jumpy if any gain was involved. Still some cool memories, 07, gearing up to see Clapton, AS73 and Bad Monkey, Good Bye Sitting On Top Of The World the best.
Vox - I have one and I have a 10W and the 4W...Fender is great but the Vox sound does it for me... add a bit of delay and it is what I crave...great vid!
A beautiful, iconic and historically important amp with a 12” speaker, master volume, tremolo and reverb. Seems like a no brainer. I’d only prefer the Fender over the Vox if I was looking for a dedicated bedroom / practice amp because it sounds more pleasant on its own.
This was a super good comparison .. they both sound great .. the Vox obviously has more top end but I think I prefer the Fender when I think of how they will fit in a mix.
Had a Blues Jr. traded it in for a Rivera Sodona. No comparison. But I will say love the Vox. Will admit did many gigs with my Blues. Never let me down.
Great video. I own both of these amps. I did change out the Fender speaker to a Greenback. I usually use them TOGETHER. They compliment each other very well. The Fender pushing the mids and the Vox kinda riding on top. Pretty affordable way to get a big and balanced sound.
Both amps are very useful. Imagine combining them into the same guitar track. Fender's low end and the Vox's high end would probably do a lot for the sound.
When you turned the treble up on the Blues Junior (7:27) it brought it closer to the Vox’s sound. The fat switch (7:20) also makes a huge difference. Makes me wonder if you could get a similar clean tone by messing with EQ and the fat switch.
I thought the Vox was better by far until you played them on the edge of breakup then I remembered where the blues junior shines! that is the sound of the blues junior right there, set it to the edge of breakup and use a tube screamer when you need that little push over the edge
The Fender blues Jr lll lacquered tweed sounds better imho than the model you were using vs. the Vox. The speaker in my Jr. is a Jensen and not a Celestion like the two amps you demoed. But that’s my opinion.
Vox, particularly with a Celestion blue, is the more versatile amp. I have the AC15ccx and a Fender ‘68 Bassman for my American sound. For a musician in a budget I get some fantastic tone. The Bassman is a ridiculous value for the tones that has. Use vintage tubes for recording. Then you’ll understand why people swear by NOS tubes.
I never comment on youtube, but I had to stop by to say this is probably the BEST gear comparison video I have ever seen. All others, PLEASE take note on how it is done, its really not that hard. Congratulations and thank you sir.

Great comparison. Thank you! I strongly preferred the Vox (that top boost dirty sound - yeow) but did like the Fender edge of breakup and with pedals 1, and those are some very important sounds for a lot of players. So I’m with those who vote both!
Both sounded very good. Vox 21,7 kg, Blues Junior 14,3 kg. I think its important in a small gig amp.
Vox has much more range and depth in it's sound. They both sound damn good though. I'll take the Vox.
I bought a Blues Jr out of a box in a shop, Day after TG sale, $400 in '06, Diamond Series. Had played them before but that day, looking for a Rivera Champ II that the owner wisely took home. Jr sounded great (floor model didn't work, spkr unplugged?)
but when I got it home, vol was super jumpy if any gain was involved.
THIS is why I'm buying a vox..that beautiful clean chime..
Badfinger-No Matter What. I should have bought the Vox AC15.Much better bottom!
Great Demo! Thank you.
This was a super good comparison .. they both sound great .. the Vox obviously has more top end but I think I prefer the Fender when I think of how they will fit in a mix.
Had a Blues Jr. traded it in for a Rivera
Sodona.
Both are so good, each as beautiful as the next.
Both amps are very useful. Imagine combining them into the same guitar track. Fender's low end and the Vox's high end would probably do a lot for the sound.
I was sure I would pick Fender here but that Vox sounds soo nice and crispy.
Love my Tweed Blues Junior but I love hearing this Vox with whatever celestion speaker is in it.
Great video, best comparison I've seen. Thanks for your good work.
Excellent comparison...comprehensive and contextual...thank you.....
(Love to see the same comparison between the ac15 and the ac15 hand wired...)
When you turned the treble up on the Blues Junior (7:27) it brought it closer to the Vox’s sound. The fat switch (7:20) also makes a huge difference. Makes me wonder if you could get a similar clean tone by messing with EQ and the fat switch.
I made a larger cabinet for my blues jr.
Made all the difference in the world.
Ive decided, Ac15 here i come❤️
I thought the Vox was better by far until you played them on the edge of breakup then I remembered where the blues junior shines! that is the sound of the blues junior right there, set it to the edge of breakup and use a tube screamer when you need that little push over the edge
Then you’ll understand why people swear by NOS tubes.
i get the feeling for drive, both together would sound super cool. i like the mid presence of the fender, but also the sizzle of the highs on the vox
Brlliantly executed comparison!
