I spent a LOT of years working in private home health care for very wealthy families and these people never give their money away. They create foundations and their families and friends are on the boards and they pay themselves and each other and take "work trips" which are just deductible family vacations. They give away 10% in a generous year. I literally had foundations pay me to take care of their elderly family members in multimillionaire families. They just move all the assets away from that person in the family.

Apparently it actually is really hard to give away because most non-profit and charities are not built around efficiency of every dollar donated. They're not operated like a business, they're operated like a government organization. Some of them only 10 cent of every dollar you donate goes to the people the charity says they're trying to help. It is actually insane how inefficient they are.
