My favorite book is Faeries by Alan Lee and Brian Froud. I got it when it came out in 1978, and it opened my eyes to all the many different fairies, with incredible illustrations. I remember painting them on the walls of my first little apartment!
The Hidden Life of Trees is such an amazing book. I think the best thing about it is that the writer uses a simple language to explain complicated stuff. When i started learning about nature, i knew nothing about science and scientific language was giving me a hard time. The Hidden Life of Trees really helped me start my journey in understanding Nature as someone with no scientific knowledge and background. I'm forever grateful for this book.
I just learned of a term: book dragon--someone who buys books to have on her shelves. I found this: What is the difference between a bookworm and a book dragon?
bookworms consume books voraciously. they just. nom, nom, nom, nom. book dragons hoard books. And I never felt so validated!! LOL. I do read, but I definitely have MORE unread at this time than read. Love your videos Alwyn. THANK YOU!! --Tess

Thank you, Alwyn! I have always been drawn to nature and the woods and I love stones, crystals, wood and all woodland creatures. I live in my childhood home next to a wooded area (I used to play in) and my lot has a creek on 2 sides. I had nightmares and my friend gave me a small silver dream catcher. I added a Pearl, labradorite, and another stone that I don’t remember. I hung it on my iron headboard with a silk ribbon and the nightmares gradually disappeared. I have a new bed and headboard now, so I’ve put the dream catcher away. I have not “formally” been taught about stones and crystals, but I am now interested in learning more. I believe in Hinduism and Buddhism and so have chakra stones on my alter and by my bed. I am SO excited to have found your posts. Namaste.

I'm like that with books too. I love buying them, but I have so many that are unread or only partially read. I have the tendency to read multiple books at once, but they often go unfinished because I'm juggling so many things at once
Thank you so much for this wonderful list, Alwyn! I'm really eager to get my hands on some of these titles. A year ago or so, you inspired me to read The Hidden Life of Trees, and it so filled my soul. In return I'd like to recommend Braiding Sweetgrass (the audio version is lovely!). It covers some of the same territory as Hidden Life of Trees, but goes on to uncover so many other members of the natural world. The author is Indigenous American, a poet and a scientist. Some of the writing is absolutely poetic. Some is melancholy, but in the end hopeful.
P.S. I do hope you will make a video about music and magick one day! Your music is so inspirational!

Yes please to doing a music & magick video! I’m a musician but I’ve kept my magickal side mostly out of the public eye. So haven’t fully explored the marrying of the two. Definitely adding Music Instinct to my to read list 🩵
hello Alwyn, 1) i have the same affliction about buying books thinking i will read them and they sit on my shelf. 2) i love your homemade book covers- makes your bookshelf feel more magickal. 3) did you do something different with your hair lately- i like it. 4) Molly Robert's channel is great. i wasn,t aware she had a book out. .....books have a power all themselves! you look great as always. great video.

I intend to read all of these. I recommend Kinesic Magic by Donald Tyson. It describes the magic effects of body postures and gestures which you can use to create your own rituals.

Oh, that is like using mudras in meditation - Placing fingers and hands in specific positions. I see the parallel in other uses such as the rituals. Thank you for commenting and expanding my thoughts a bit!
@@emmar3035 Yes, the hand gestures part is very similar to that; a 'western occultism' version. The other aspect is the full body postures, with different ones for channeling, absorbing, invoking and banishing from the aura. Use of the hand chakras is the most fascinating part. The left hand absorbs and the right hand projects. You can even catch a ray of starlight or planet-light and bind it into a gemstone. Unbelievably, it actually works.

SO sorry to double comment but a book you would adore- and a very, very old one- is "Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries" by Evans-Wentz. Written around 1910 he spent years talking to British and Irish folks who had encountered fairies- its really an anthropological study, and its incredibly fascinating and I think you would adore it! Its a treasury of actual fairy lore from those who experienced them. You can get a very cheap copy online for just a few pounds!
