The rider questioned why the bike doesn't have a normal clutch lever.
The idea of the Cub/Super Cub was to be a simple and efficient inner-city delivery vehicle.
Given that, the idea was that the other hand would be busy holding the package, so they designed a semi-automatic transmission for it.
This is why there's no clutch lever to activate.

Scary is all in what you're accustomed to.
This bike is cute but underpowered so you'll ALWAYS be pushed by auto traffic on all roadways.
I got a clean used Suzuki Burgman 400 Maxi scooter that's easy & a hoot to ride.
Enough power to ride city or highway no problem.
It's Auto CVT so no shifting.
But water-cooled & can tour regionally or just ride local.
It does EVERYTHING this Honda does, and 3x more for half the money.
I'd suggest you at least test ride different "easy ride bikes", Scooters, Maxi Scooters & street bike motorcycles under say 500cc.

The supercub makes more sense in its time. It was an alternative to the pre-cvt scooters of the time that allowed one handed riding for deliveries. Those larger wheels were meant for poor or unpaved roads. But on the flip side, features like the step-through frame, front faring, and double-ended shifter were for keeping the rider clean. Rugged, civilized, and classless; all in one package!
Nowadays, for bumming around town, a scooter is arguably better. But there is niche for a small bike that can handle rougher roads better than a scooter. (That said I'm glossing over the CT125. It's for a different role, and the difficulty getting one even now speaks for itself)

Obviously, you don't live in California.Hit a pot hole with a 10" wheeled scooter, down you go. You'd better be wearing full gear and a full faced helmet. I have a Vespa and a Super Cub and I have to say they just serve different purposes for me. The Super Cub does really well on bumpy roads and on longer rides it gives you something to do with the shift lever while still being comfy to ride in town. Equipped with the right luggage system, it can carry everything you need for bike travel. And then there's the super low fuel consumption, light weight and great looks.

I am more of a scooter guy than a motorcyclist but this bike really appeals to me. Mostly looks I really dig the look of it compared to scooters which are mostly utilitarian or very expensive. Automatic is easier but I don't really fancy fiddling with a clutch when I am communiting around. One thing I don't like about scooters is the flat footboard especially when it gets wet and muddy. Losing storage is about the only thing that makes me want to go with a scooter still but I am going to put a topcase on a scooter anyway and combined with a backpack that should be enough. Too much storage just encourages me to buy too much for when I go shopping which just makes wasting food easier.
I am a pragmatic person so it is a little abnormal for me to sacrifice practicality for looks but there is also the fact that scooters are just not common around here. Which means if something goes wrong out of my control and beyond my skill level to repair I might be in some trouble. I have actually been turned down with my scooters before because the shops lacked the experience with dealing with things like that. I have not fully made up my mind on this or the PCX but this is a pretty strong contender.
Things like Groms or Monkeys are just non-starters. They are toys where as the Supercub is a toy-like scooter I guess is the way I would put it.

We had a Kawasaki 3-wheeler when I was a teenager that had a semi-automatic transmission just like this one. I absolutely loved it. I love manual transmissions, but the rest of the family preferred to just be able to get on and ride with the ease of an automatic, so the Kawasaki was a wonderful compromise that allowed all of us of any age to enjoy it. I loved being able to shift and engine brake, do all of the manual transmission stuff, while also allowing my younger brother or sister to ride it without getting frustrated with stalling it out. I think that's what I love about the Super Cub, is that it gives something everyone can hop on and enjoy. The gearhead of the family can ride it and still have the perks of the manual transmission without alienating everyone else. I hope they don't go fully automatic on these, it's what sets it apart from every other twist and go scooter out there, but I can see why they would if they want to maximize its potential sales.

It was made to be practical everyday transportation. Delivery riders(mostly in asia and japan) could use their hand carrying stuff and not worry about engaging clutch. U can upshift and downshift using up down toe motion like on any other bike. No need to use ur heel. I hear lots of complaining in this video from the person who is not comfortable with a simplest bike ever made😂. You wondered why it's not a fully automatic transmission. It's not because a fully automatic transmission would cost more in terms of dissipated power than the Cub's motor can spare. The centrifugal clutch strikes the best balance between conserving the motor's limited power for use at the rear wheel while eliminating the confusion, coordination and danger a clutch lever tends to present to inexperienced riders.
The centrifugal clutch also allows riders to ride one-handedly which is important to folks in countries where they use these bikes to deliver things. (In counties poorer than the U.S., people use these bikes for more utilitarian purposes, so Honda designed the bike so a rider can hold the bar with his/her right hand while holding the leash of a cow or goat with the other.

Centrifugal clutch... an idea every kid that had a cheap minibike in the 60's and 70's knew about, LOL!. Engagement is based on RPM. To shift, roll the throttle off.
Same as a regular clutch in terms of rev matching... learn the shift points at which minimal clutch slip happens if you want minimal wear... other shift points if you want max acceleration and such.
I think the big question should be, why is it so much more expensive than the XR150L???

Even the C90 would be better than electric in many ways, electrics are fine, I drive an EV but it's soulless , it's a good car, don't get me wrong, it's a volkswagen ID.3 tour 5 with 82 Kwh battery so the range is good but there's no fun there or smile when you put the foot down you hear only a gentle while for a few seconds.
Another thing is recharge times, and ok, while in bed my ev charges on night tariff and I got 350 -400 + Kms range but when away from home and needing to charge at a DC point it can be a pain especially if the battery is cold recharge times are much longer as the car has the ability to pre heat the battery VW do not allow it to pre-heat for DC charging, same with most ev manufacturers that have battery heating, the heater is only there to protect the battery at very low temps, it's possible future updates change this but for now, charge times in the cost at a DC charger is slow.
Your winter range will be much less, not as noticeable in my car because I got so much range but I drove small battery electric cars in the past and you will really notice a range hit.
And worst of all is that you are most surely going to see much less acceleration when the battery is cold.
Being able to fill a petrol scooter in seconds is a huge advantage.
I know Honda are working on a hybrid system but for goodness sake, this isn't necessary on a bike/scooter because they consume such little fuel to begin with, you're just adding a lot of unnecessary complexity that is guaranteed to see the bike end up in landfill far earlier than it should.
Electronics have a limited lifespan before you need to replace the likes of capacitors or this can kill main boards and it's so hard to get parts now I can't imagine many electronic spare parts in the future, as more and mote tech is included now in bikes there is a far greater risk of these scooters/bikes and even cars ending up in scrap yards far earlier than they should.
+ do you really want to support strip mining in such disastrous scale for eb batteries ? I know I can't talk with my EV for sure but I really don't think at the end of the day that there's anything environmentally friendly about electric cars once you are aware how they have to get the minerals to make the batteries.
Tesla's model 3 and model Y SR use no cobalt which is a big step in the right direction, they are LiFeP04 batteries but they can't hold as much energy so would not offer much range in a scooter/bike.
I think petrol for now is by far the most environmentally sound way to get around using scooters and small cc bikes and the world would be far better off if we could encourage a lot more people onto bikes and scooters and ditch the 1 person cars and big trucks that clog up the streets. In my opinion of course.
I used to think battery electric vehicles were the way forward but now I'm not so sure when I see the sheer damage to the land and rivers to extract the minerals in such quantities, I think it's a mistake we will regret in the years to come and I say this as an EV driver myself. Sure, electronic devices require mining also but to make electric cars in huge quantities is destruction of land on a whole new scale we have never seen before.

You say that this is the number 1 vehicle sold in the world. Is that really accurate? This is meant to look like the old 49cc Super Cub but it is not the same motorcycle. It would be like showing a Volkswagen Beetle and allowing it to share in the accolades of its predecessor. They are only meant to look like the other vehicle.

Two things I would definitely want a key start instead of a proximity start and how the heck are you supposed to put a cute anime girl on the back of your motorcycle if there’s no seat back there, that should probably be remedied

There's nothing semi automatic about it, the clutch operation is just disengaged when you let off the throttle and engaged when you're back on the revs, it's good that it's un stall able yeah but don't really get it!?

I had a 2020 super cub.. hated two things about it.. the solo seat was a medieval torture device..
Horrible!!!! And the second thing was the stupid key fob...
    That sucked..
    It also needs a Kickstarter.
    Other than that.. fun bike.

    Very noice.
But overpriced for it's core virtues.
For that money, make it Highway / Interstate Capible.
    + more storage.
    I grabbed a clean used Burgman 400 for $2,000.
2 months later I toured coast to coast.
Id guess this is a super economy local commuter.
    At 100mpg & it replaces a car, do $4100 seems a "good value" ?
Not in Texas where our cities are many miles apart....

I’m amazed at how little product knowledge and research people do before riding and reviewing motorcycles. Also, just learn how to ride the specific bike. One should close down the throttle briefly when changing gears.

For crying out loud these small bikes are way too expensive to buy brand new! Smart folks should buy them used at a much lower price. These bikes DO NOT GIVE YOU A BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. When you buy from a cycle dealer, expect $2500 to $3000 added to ur bill for the BS they want to tack on so they can keep their lights on? Stop buying this junk and, help get them OFF THE MARKET!!!!! It's like the TW 200. IT'S STILL A PIECE OF JUNK THAT SELLS FOR $3000 used. I know, cause I had one. These junk bikes are not worth anyone's time because the first thing people do is start modifying them to go faster. Or, carry more. I have never seen one stock. People always change things. BUY A BICYCLE AND PUT A FREEKIN LAWN MOWER MOTOR ON IT!!!! WEVE DONE THAT FOR DECADES TOO!!!!!! Go to a dealer ask them the out the door price then OFFER HIM HALF OF THAT. SO, THAT WOULD MAKE THE CUB ABOUT $3000 OUT THE DOOR. THAT'S ABOUT RIGHT.

It’s a shame they can’t make it more sleek appearance wise. It looks ugly AF and if they just threw in a badass sporty look they would exponentially make more sales. Spare me the aerodynamics of some leg guards. Just do a damn sporty body and watch hundreds of millions just pour in. Ok so go from what 180+ mpg to 120mpg!? Oh my God my heart is broken. $3 a gallon to 120mpg is $0.02c per mile oh the horror.

It is one big fail. After all those years, Honda could not create one with 10-11 HP, still same weak shit on narrow tires, so damm slow uphill when european Adult rides it. And to top it all, useless eletronic bs. It is super fun, until you reach mountains or until it gets too windy. Then it will makes you mad. I drive it without need for motorcycle licence, no clutch saved me from crashing into taxi drivers. Those bastards do not see you, when police is around, they focus on police not on you, nor on letting you pass before they turn.
