We’re grateful for everyone who supports us and gains access to our ever-growing All-in-One Bundle 👉 geni.us/ftus5! A possible solution, starting at minute 17:45, to create a DMS is by creating a new file with 3 channels: import the MS raw into channels 1 and 2, erase the SIDE channel from the MS Raw Rear, and include the rear channel into track 3. Now we have Mid, Side, Rear.
What I recommend trying is using external PIP microphones like Lom Mikrousi with the H2e. Record to external microphones + "Front" from the H2e. Then try the "MIX" result. It sounds pretty amazing. As I mentioned in your community post, I bought H2e two weeks back, out of curiosity and also I wanted one, small 32bit recorder for mikrusi as a backup droprig. After experimenting with this little guy, I'm quite surprised how good it is for that price
Thank you so much! I actually have these, but not in the LINE jack version. :( By the way, how on earth did you get to such a remote place in Antarctica? The video and footage you captured there are absolutely mind-blowing!
I don't know if this is the best portable audio recorder under $200, but I know that this is the best video about it on youtube. I love train stations too. You can find all sorts of sounds there without wandering around for hours. Viele Grüße - Til.
I tried to wait for your video on this but pulled the trigger yesterday to get it in time to record my kids' first gig next weekend. Now I'm even more psyched about my purchase lol. Thank you for the always wonderful informative and beautiful videos!
Thank you so much, Paul! We hope you can record some amazing sounds with it. If you’re recording indoors, maybe consider getting a foam cover for the microphone.
Long time listener to your videos, learnt so much over the years, thank you both. I’ve had H2n and enjoyed for many years especially the spatial audio recording. Wondering if you think the H2e has lower noise, especially on the line in and ‘better’ spatial/surround capturing of sound? A comparison between the 2 H2n v H2e would be amazing, as I haven’t seen any online. Happy new year!
22:16 Looking for wind protection I found that the Rycote Mini Wndjammer for Zoom H5 was a fairly good match. Using the BTA-1 bluetooth adapter to start and stop recording I don't need access to the buttons on top of the H2e. However, Zoom should provide us with a proper control app for both Android and Apple devices.
I do listen these videos in my studio. It’s so fascinating to hear those sounds. Surely with headphones that is different, but with studio monitor, just wow. Thanks for make these. /Teme
As always, it was a great pleasure to watch this video. When you can start a surround recording within 30 seconds and have to get the gear out of the backpack beforehand, that's just great. The H2 Essential is absolutely an “on the go” device that makes pretty good recordings, it is very easy to use and fits in almost any pocket. What I find particularly great is that you can make 5.0 surround recordings with it, as is also shown at 17:45. (keyword: double MS) - Big THANK YOU for figuring that out! The “Schoeps Plug In” featured in the video is even available for FREE and it works very well and produces really great results. I use it always, if I need to render a double MS recording to a 5.1 surround ambience. Very convenient, reliable and quite powerful. And if you mix the front and rear cardioids together to a mono sum and apply an LPF to it, you even get a quite usable LFE signal, which you then have to raise the volume a bit, but ... better than nothing. To say it clearly, this won't make a blockbuster, but a very nice ambience recording!!! I particularly liked the part with the Roland CS-10EM. How did you do the noise reduction?
Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful comment! For noise reduction, I exclusively use Bertom Denoiser. There’s a free, pay-what-you-want version available, as well as a pro version. It’s incredibly simple, straightforward, and gets the job done. :)
That is a truly useful and fab sounding little device, my next recorder will be a Zoom F3 but I might one day buy this to replace my Roland R0-5 as a mini recorder.
Come on Zoom!!! Get with it and sponsor this wonderful couple! They are doing the work for you and reaching over 50k people and surely a noticeable percentage are swayed by their work because I'm one of them!

@@captteemo9133 Thank you so much for your kind words! In the audio industry, particularly in field recording, sponsorship opportunities for content creators are quite rare. Excited for the upcoming video. I own a H1n and was tempted by the H1Essential after your video, but I wonder if a zoom H2E wouldn't be better? I have a F3 with Omnis but I can't always afford to carry this setup everywhere. H1n is great but no idea If the H2E would be a massive update. :) Once again, super happy to see you back here!
Hi Jeremy! The H1 Essential isn’t a massive upgrade, so I’d recommend going with the H2E if I would have to decide between both. With the H2E, you technically get XY stereo in both the front and back, offering you more flexibility when it comes to mixing.

Yes, everything was shot on a DJI/iPhone. The side train shots were especially filmed with the iPhone 15 Pro. Libby was lying on the ground, and she mentioned that this part took her the longest to color grade due to the green cast from the ND filter. It was soooo bright that day! :)
