Holy moly is Kenta fun to watch the way he blocked and outplayed Ma Lin was so good
I don't know much about when Ma Lin's prime was but I think he was far away from his prime in 2009. Playing like this near the end of his career just goes to show how great he was.

Kenta totally earned Ma Lin’s respect after this.
and it's not an easy thing for sure.
That's why Ma didn't shout and celebrate after the last point and calmly goes to shake hand with judge and opponent .
I love Kenta's unconventional backhand blocks. With his wrist twist he paralyses the opponent. Absolutly amazing technique.
Best match of all time. Kenta's unique style came so close to defeating the allmighty ma lin.
It was indeed a good match, but nowhere near best of all time. It wasn't even the best match in this tournament! (e.g Ma Lin vs. Wang Liqin semi)

I also play tt and that backhandwrist twist it comes to me naturally , Later on when i saw kenta's play style i was shocked . Sone techniques your coach traches you and sone comes from withinthe body. Although I am not trained but I learnt playing TT against syrong opponents watching them playing against them. TT became my fav sport. I combined Kenta and joo se hyukstyke a bit and try to play m 😅. Thank you legends , I have learnt a lot watching and playing . Wish I would have had a coach inmy young age but TT was not that famous during my childhood in India nor we had that miney to get trained. But nevertheless it's never too late. That's to my college and corporate life I came acroos TT and fukly enjoy playing it.

2009 was a turning point for Ma Lin. ITTF banned speed glue, which great affected penhold players.
+Nan Xing maybe you're right, but good players such as ma or wang hao remained on top. for example in 2011 and 2013 wttc wang hao beat ma long in semi (then lost to jike).
i think the more important was when they introduced plastic ball. game is faster and there is less rotation which was always one of the biggest advantage of penholder style
6 years later and the penhold style is still thankfully holding on with players like Felix Lebrun, Dang Qiu. Maybe we will see more in the future, but it seems like though more traditional penholding has died out, the rpb style pioneered by Wang Hao seems to be very adaptable to the fast paced drive and counterloop game we see now

Man what a match wooo. That 4th set was very imp which Kenta was winning but lost somehow. But no doubt what a show is put on by both of them.
Such a beautiful rally between them are hardly with current matches . So they are lacking thrills. Ma Lin is a hell of player because of his forehand always from any difficult angles and backhand corners of the table. On the other hand Kenta Matsudaira skills are exceptional one of a kind and so superb. Their standard and class of playing is very high .

@@rimondschein9075 Точнее не с телика, а с видеокассеты! 2 выхода-1.Не нужно было накладывать компрессию на видос для уменьшения его размера, 2.Нужно было дать нормальное вегашсишное (VHS) расширение, а именно 720*576 и не меньше. Попадись мне вышеупомянутая в/касс-я бы показал качество...

Ma Lin played smarter, he played short and fast using his right spin to get points and often succeeded. Kenta played very well, but there was only one winner, Ma Lin...truly amazing, he only used one side of his bet but can play very well

in the point starting from 4.15, Matsudaira's shot bounces off the net (4.22) and Ma Lin cheers thinking that he has won the point. but the ball seems to have still landed on the table???

Thanks for the reply! I just watched the point again in the full match format. It seems that the ball did bounce on Matsuraira’s side before Ma Lin’s meaning the the point was correctly awarded!
