It's impressive how bad autotapper is, tapping nykthos for 1 colorless when you have a bunch of open swamps is really something else.
Seems to have gotten worse with Timeless. It absolutely hates tapping cavern of souls in the appropriate moments as well.
@@carlhannah1884 yea thats happening in standard too
The amount of times the auto tapper has lost me a ranked game really grates my ass
You are the best RUclipsr to fall asleep to. That's meant as a compliment
This is a nice variation on the mono black decks I’ve seen going around! It didn’t look like Necro worked super well in the deck, it generally seemed like The One Ring was working more with the rest of the build, but I think in a Bo3 version maybe it’s a good sideboard if the opponent is on Sheoldred + Bowmaster.
I think a couple of copies of Beseech the Mirror could be good, either popping necro so you can draw again, or getting rid of a high One Ring, and you have 3 really good targets for it (ring, necro, and Karn).
Also with Necro in the deck, I'd be thinking about leaning more into the devotion with cards like Gray Merchant. It can be both a finisher and a life gain source, and gets around leyline.
Great video!
I think a deck with Dark Ritual and The One Ring can't really be a devotion deck. You're just not going to have a lot of pips on board if you're spending your resources on turboing out colorless cards.
@@OMGclueless right, I didn’t explicitly say it, but my suggestions were around the idea of choosing one or the other as the draw engine. Obviously if you choose the One Ring, devotion isn’t the way and you can cut stuff like Nykthos. Meanwhile with Necro you could really lean into it.
It might be neat to have a one off peer into the abyss in there
respect for the best dark ritual art in the thumbnail
The infamous "Black Summer" combo back on a cold winter day.
Assuming the combo refers to Dark Ritual / Necropotence, I really wouldn't combine them. Playing a T1 Necropotence and drawing three just replaces both cards and the draw you miss. I played Necro back in 1996 and the common wisdom was to play it when you needed to refill your hand. The first turn Ritual was for Hypnotic Spectre or Hymn To Tourach + Demonic Consultation for a second one.
Very true, but that was before duress or similar effects were common, before blue control decks were common. I often turn one necro to duck under thoughtsize and stubborn denial. 😅@@jollyjoker6340
Dark ritual, Necro. Good old memories :-)
TIMELESS IS SO DAMN COOL MAN!!!!
You're seriously the most gift deck builder I watch, Luca. You're friggin awesome man! Appreciate all you do!!!!!
Love the timeless content
you're on fire legen
Turn 2 sheoldred 🗿🗿🗿
The One Ring and Necropotence. The epitome of pure, unadulterated greedy Black...
Another potential play you had at minute 31 against the domain deck was Karn grabs liquimetal coating, upkeep lock the domain player out of their 5th land- would have been a gamble if they drew an untapped land 6, but if they didn’t you coulda LD’d them out of the game
I also wouldn’t mind seeing a warmcoil in the karnboard. Overall I love the deck and will be using it as a base for my first timeless deck. Amazing content as always, LVD. Your exquisite gameplay provides a lot of value.
Yeah the wishboard has some wiggle room!
Hope you make more time less videos!
Basically Sheoldred + One Ring with extra steps. I don't see Necropotence adds any synergy with the main victory condition (shelly + card draw)
I would of probably gone a gary route. Mono black devotion but you are slamming necropotence for more pips. Run march for the card conversion and more life.
you don't see how drawing 10 cards helps you assemble your combo?
I have played a lot of versions of this lately, necropotence can feel a bit redundant, because having sheoldred and ring unanswered is almost a guaranteed win. Unless you are playing against a titan deck. Then you get stomped 😂
What graveyard hate would you use? Tormod’s Crypt? Relic of Progentiuosususu? One of the many claws and lanterns?
You know, what really makes Legend as a player so hard to beat is his very high skill level combined with his unbelievable luck he definitaly has in what he draws. For instance... opp goes all the way to destroy his One Ring and the next card Legend draws is a One Ring.
Thoughtsieze/Inquistion into Bowmasters into Necro/Shelly/One Ring is so miserable to play against.
Would Vito / Sanguine bond work here also?
Maybe as slightly different deck that's more focused on the combo, but doubt it would be very competitive.
Don’t forget Ivory Tower. And Reliquary Tower
And Lake of the Dead, Order of these on Hand, Hymn to Tourach, Sinkhole
@@maciek19882 Priceless :-D
@@maciek19882the Necro deck thst won didn’t have sink hole. One of Strip Mine, one of Zuran Orb, one of Ivory Tower. Ran 4 Hymns, 3/4 Contagion, 3/4 Stupor, 4 Hypnotic Spector, 1/2 Ishan’s Shade, 2 Sengir Vampires, 1/2 Serrated Arrows, 4 Drain Life, 4 Disks, 2 Demonic Consultstions, 4 Necropotence, 2/3 Coercions, 4 Dark Rituals, 2 Lake of the Dead, bunch of Swamps,
The real clutch deal was 2 Lodestone Baubles in the sideboard to take swamps in the graveyard to put them back on the deck and Soul Burns for more life gains.
At least thst was how the standard version was.
Then there was the post Iceage block rotation version thst was more aggro. They worried about Necropotence and Disk so much they reprinted them in 5th edition. 😂😂😂😂.
I ran the deck for years. The best part was how the deck was basically Hatred Black with more control elements.
Nah, we need more undercosted and/or free effects to relive the Necro of old. Firestorm in particular, Contagion, Unmask, Strip Mine, etc
IDK how they would do this, but I would love them to put in card styles of the old art for cards like Dark Ritual and Necro that were introduced in these highly stylistic subsets. It's not really old magic unless I see that dude with the cloak from Alpha.
I completely agree with this and think it's kinda strange they didn't put them in. Not even as an alt art at the very least.
Draw fast, cowboy
This format is stronger than modern, is it?
yup
This was when i started mtg long time ago. Ah the memories of unsleeved playing
Where's Hypnotic Specter?
Lost in the ring.
And people wonder why Sauron wanted to have his ring back so badly… jokes aside, thanks for this great content - it isn’t that easy to find Bo1 content for Timeless. Let alone good content. Much appreciated.
Where the hell is your *Corrupt* ?
Font of agonies could be a nice alternative to fatal push?
Really shows the power of The One Ring - no wonder Sauron wanted it back so badly!
works better with Illusions and Donate
Cute lol
absolutely crushed to not see Hypnotic Specter in a Dark Ritual list 😔
Too old, too inefficient
Necropotence black winter
Wait till Timeless release Donate
The t error of Necro+donate will kill all
Harmless Offering is already on the platform.
Nice I’m the 666th like hahah 😂😅 👿 😈
only a bit into the vid but you should really be drawing with the ring in your mainphase instead of opp end step
We often didn't have better plays available in the deck in those spots, so better to wait and have more information before committing to the Burden counters. There's no choice that's always right or wrong in every situation, always have to re-evaluate.
@@LegenVD its marginal but i feel like drawing first to get a better view of your options was better in a lot of situations at least while you had most of your health, e.g when you had karn countered you could have drawn and seen 2 sheoldreds and weighed which you would mind getting countered less, or see that you had another sheoldred coming so you could run one out to bait removal/counter. it's also better in the case that they have a leyline binding/tear asunder type effect where they can deny your draw by responding to the tap.
i just have a hard time seeing a case where you wouldnt choose to draw by the opponent's end step in the early game scenarios where life total is high.
certainly i don't think it's a hard rule though and i was really only commenting with the first match in mind lol
Thumbs up if you still have a copy of Rob Hahn’s article about Necropotence!
Most famous card no one can pronounce for some reason. Do you read omnipotence as "om-nee-poe-tents" too? Is necropolis "nekro-poe-lis"?
What?.. And how should it be pronounced then?
Like this: necropolis, omnipotence. Yw @@ziziorens348
I'm parroting what I've heard on the official Magic coverage many times.
Necropotence is a fictional word. As such, it can be pronounced however the creator deems it to be. With that said, Mark Rosewater, head designer of MTG, has gone on record in stating it is indeed pronounced "Neck-Crow-Po-Tents".
lol English doesn’t work like that, just because words are spelled similarly doesn’t mean that they are pronounced similarly
