How many hours do you work a week as an investment banking analyst? I have heard investment banking analyst work a lot of hours, around 70-80 hours a week. Is that true ?
Yep that's accurate - usually 70-80 hours
Do you have the ability to choose when to work those hours? I heard most IBs start at 9 and work till midnight. Are there ways to start earlier and get home earlier?
@@greatmusicchannel5075 It's difficult unfortunately! Simply because the rest of the group is working 9AM until midnight or past, and you can continue to get work at 11PM and be expected to work on it through the night
after a few years(mostly 2035-2037), if a person will spend around 10-15 years in the Investment banking industry, can that person become a multimillionaire or a billionaire?
Not billionaire just from the IB job, but after 15 years the person could be making upwards of $1m per year if they've made it to MD - will actually be uploading a video on salaries in different levels soon and the time it takes to get there, so please stay tuned for that.
@@angelasunx3 thank you so much :)
@@angelasunx3 I know a couple senior VPs that make over a million pounds annually. I got really close to a million one year after a pretty huge deal, but I ended up just short of 950k. Not an average year for sure.
@@filiphelset872 That's amazing! Yep at that point size of the deal really matters
Hey Angela ,
Thanks for this wonderful video .
Will a big gap(5-7 years) after college or in resume affects your chances to get into IB .
I am working as a data centre operator (low tech job) , if i pursue my master in finance , then i will be able to make my carrer in IB ?
Or their is some age bar there , or my resume will lack behind others .
No age barrier, especially if you join as an associate. Would recommend getting an MBA for this.
Thanks for the video! Just to clarify, you said that your bonus is 70-100% of your base salary. So if you make $85k/yr, there's potential to make $170k/yr due to the bonus? That blows my mind if that's the case!
Yep but depends on how well the bank / your group is doing and your own personal performance
@@angelasunx3 Oh I see. Thank you for the response! I just accepted a consulting position at a Big 4 consulting firm and the performance bonuses are nowhere near 70-100% of the base salary at the associate level so that really surprised me!
@@JomerTB Congrats!!
🤡
how did you break into investment banking?
Combination of lots of networking and relevant classes / experience
Angela what do you mean with networking ? And relevant classes? Sorry i do not know much about this, also i'm from belgium currently studying economics, do you need speak english perfectly to get a job in NY, london
I love the way you save on food. I'm a High School student planning on doing Investment Banking and I don't want to spend much money until I get married... lol
Haha there are definitely lots of ways to save money in IB since food's compensated and you're just in the office all day
Same here. Am Also in high school and plan on working in finance (hedge funds or Investment banks)
@@KOH2423 That's awesome!
@@angelasunx3 Yes. The best part is that am already talented in economics
Algorithm bumping :)
Thanks!!
Lol all my friends who went into banking at NYC quit because corporate culture was the worst
Yep lots of people do
Really like your videos. I had one question If I'm CFA level 2 qualified will I have a slight edge to get into IB?
Yep it would, it's a solid credential
Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Hey Angela, great video keep safe 🥰
Thank you! You too! :)
Thank u Angela it was a nice video
Thanks Gabriel!
heyy.dont u get stressed out by the long working hours? how do you balance between work and personal life?
Definitely do get stressed, made a video on work life balance if helpful: ruclips.net/video/KMTyt-j2PMk/видео.html
Nice video, thank you for the insights :) How much did your base salary increase as a second yar analyst?
~10%
Thanks for the infos.
No problem!
You work 70-80hrs?! I work 35-40 hours a week for 6 figs in tech. I'm wayyyy too lazy to be an investment banker tbh lol. Congrats to you.

Just curious what college did you go to, and what was the interview process like?
I went to NYU! I talk about the interview process for IB in a good amount of videos if you're interested
Hey Angela your new subscriber, mind asking which school you went to? Did you do an mba? Thanks
I went to NYU for undergrad. Did not do an MBA
LOL LaFerrari in your thumbnail! 👍🏻
LOL yup!
Hi Angela first of all great video. How much salary do investment analyst get after the post tax?
Thanks! You can generally expect ~90k post tax for an IB analyst, but ranges depending on the base / bonus
Hi. Thank you for the video. Can you please address what you wore pre-covid? I am starting work next year and don’t know what and where to go shop!
Made a video on office wear recently if you'd like to check it out: ruclips.net/video/DGsR5Tr6zcU/видео.html
@@angelasunx3 thank you! Watched it. Bought some Black Friday banana republic 🥰
Does it requires any minimum CGPA to get the offer of an investment banking analyst? Thank you!
Usually banks will have a min GPA cut off somewhere around 3.0 - 3.3
I'm doing bachelors in Advertising and Marketing. After this I'm thinking of doing my masters (MS) in Economics and then MBA in Finance. Can i go into IB after these two masters?
Yes! Plenty go into IB after MBA
@@angelasunx3 Thank you so much for replying!
What degree would you say best help with finance/investment banking?
Undergrad business or mba
Which business school did you go to? And which company do you work for?
NYU Stern / UBS
so how much do you actually make?
You only give your first year salary
How much I made at the time is in this video! I have another one with salaries as you rise up
Do you pay tax or not?
And exactly how much do you pay in tax?
And exactly how much of the $85,000 are left after taxes?
>30% in taxes
I want to become investment banker in future.
Good luck!
Do you invest in anything other than 401k? Like stocks or ETF?
401K and IRA mostly - we're also restricted in what we can invest in due the the nature of the job / need to be cleared on each investment
@@angelasunx3 Thanks for clarifying. I guess it’s a disadvantage for working at an investment bank.
I have a question. I am a returning college student and I'm thinking about majoring in Finances. I'm 58 years old and a sophomore I have been out of school for almost 10 years. I decided to go back to college to finish my degree. I was wondering is it too late for me to pursue a career in finance?. I'm looking into investment banking.
Congrats! It's never too late. Investment banks for the most part like to hire younger people due to the long hours of the job, so I'd keep your options open as to which avenue in finance.
@@angelasunx3 Thank you so much for that
@@mauriceholden9238 No problem and best of luck
Man these salaries of IB in dollars make my eyes go all🤑 here Merchant Banking salary even after 4 years of work ex seems so low compared to u guys!
Good pay but bad WLB :/
@@angelasunx3same here dude like 14hrs minimum work day... and yeah u can't forget "its not important but would be great if I had this on my desk by tomorrow morning"😂
What do you do daily in your job? Sounds like you do a lot of overtime. Why?
Nature of the job that you get work throughout the day from multiple projects (even at midnight or later) which results in late nights - can do a video on what I do daily!
so along with the bonus. the base salary is more like 140k?
Total salary, yes - base salary more around $90k when just starting
hi how does the hours count as in lets say there's 90 hour work week. Do I get paid extra for working more hours or is it 85k base regardless how many hours you end up working per week? Is there such thing as OT in the industry? Thanks!!!!!
It's the same regardless of # of hours worked for full-time employees
@@angelasunx3 oh but in your intern video it's extra for OT right? Damn no wonder they try to make you work extra hours. They paying you the same either way haha!
