    Here is a tip: The fertilizer you used is good but it takes time to breakdown. The plants need mostly nitrogen in the early stages so if you plant them just the way you did and give them a shot of something like 5-1-1 or 5-2-2 liquid fish it will give them nitrogen almost immediately so the other fertilizer can kick in when it breaks down

    Woodchips only take nitrogen from the part it touches. Woodchips are wonderful

      I do love woodchips but I didn’t want to cover them with the new layer of compost we were amending the row with. They are ok on top of the soil, but if I incorporate them into the soil, they are pretty detrimental to my plants.

    When's your first estimated frost date, and will you use shade cloth to protect your brassicas during the summer heat?

      My first frost will be sometime from October 15-25th. I do not use shade cloth. I’m sure it would cut down on some of the stress the seedlings are going through, but I’ve not found any of my Brassicas to bolt in the fall. We are still warm but we will cool off within a few weeks:)
