I highly recommend the step on’s. Most of my snowboard on the landfills of Wisconsin so lots of laps and clipping in and out. I teach too so the flexibility to quickly jump into my board to demo a skill or jump out to run to a student is invaluable.
I highly recommend the step ons. It takes a couple runs to get used to them but after that you will never want to go back to normal straps. They are INCREDIBLE! And I have never had them come off my feet even with some sick wipeouts.
I started snowboarding 2 seasons ago and the step ons where the bindings i learned on. I enjoy them a lot and I think the best part is coming off the chair lift and stepping into the bindings and going right into the run, just like Skiers.
Went to step-ons last season, liked them so much I got a second pair of the updated ones for this season. Takes a little getting used to, but definitely worth it.
Getting out of the step-ones can be a pain for sure. What I have found that works is pull the release, lift the heel and twist before you lift your foot out.
Getting out switch the lever to inside, pull lever up turn heel towards the center of board makes getting out easier. 10yr said he not going back to straps and convince his friends to get step ons for Christmas
I just got my Step Ons and the clicking feedback is very good. Definitely feel locked in. Getting out is by far the trickiest maneuver since I'm not used to turning my heel inward to exit. I've only been able to test them in my living room, but once I get on the mountain it may be easier. Especially since the snow/water on the binding will act like a lubricant.
There's a learning curve for getting in and out. I definitely recommend adding a decent amount of forward lean because it makes the boots fit a bit tighter into the bindings. I found this improves response.
Little thing I learned while riding the step ons is put the outside clip in first then lean foot in and To get out put you’re knee forward and it should pop out fast🤙🤙
Got my stepsons last year and road em all season. Love em. Never popped out never had an issue. Once you get entries and exits down they are awesome. And the responsiveness is amazing.
Haha for real. I wont ever use the step ons. I know they've come a long way but I like to snug my toe straps before I get moving so I'm never fully comfortable with step ons.
I feel like a part of though comes down to the fact that the pros have been riding with straps ever since they started riding. For us it would be like driving on the other side of the road and sitting what feels like the passenger seat to drive the car
Back in the day I used the old-school Switch step-in bindings. I liked the convenience but it required a much stiffer boot which I didn't like. Now using Burton Cartel - Reflex bindings and love them. Peace.
At 63 years old I got a pair of the First Year Photon Binding Sets. They were used 7 times and I got them for $500 3 years ago. This will be my 2nd Season on the local Ski Hill. I’ll never go back to Straps. I don’t notice the Clicking noise at all after the first minute or so.
The problem I had with the step on bindings was heel lift inside the boot. The first day or two they worked great, and then the boots packed out, and the became a bit too big. If your boots don’t fit exactly right there’s no way to ratchet your ankle back down, where as with strap bindings you can get away with a boot that is a bit too big or packed out. With step on bindings if your boots don’t fit exactly right, it will ruin your day. But if they do fit well step on bindings are actually pretty great. I went back to straps, but it broke my heart because these things are really cool.
Had the step ons last year, loved them, except it killed my foot, could only go one day, took me nearly an hour to get them off, hurt to drive home. I have the wide version being delivered in a few days, can't wait.
Got my third pair. So my 5th year now with them. Gotta do a 5 years with the step on review. There are some changes on the new ones I just got. That long pole is crazy.
hey Johnathan! ive decided for christmas this year to purchase either a new snowboard all together, or some stepon bindings. right now im rocking a 2019 Burton process flying v, im not really a park rider, i prefer just shredding down the mountain, and was curious as to what you would reccomend. I would go with the bindings as i ride with a family and friend of skiiers, meaning that all are waiting on me at the lift. the bindings would speed that up however a new board (something in the 600-900 range would maybe be nice) what would you reccomend?
You should wear one of those high visibility vests like that guy had on that said, "Space NOT Speed." @5:00 That seems like a really great idea when it's early season conditions! Be careful out there sir!
A good tip is swapping the left-right lever sections so the lever is on the inside of your leg rather than the outside. Makes it easier and quicker to squat down and pull the lever. This is a modification that's suggested by burton. You can find tutorials on youtube on how to do it. It's really easy.
I love the super pole shots! It looks ridiculous but the shots look awesome! In fact the shots totally remind me of cool boarders from the original PlayStation days and the 3/4 perspective. Ski doc, can you tell us how doing butters/presses fell on the step ons compared to your old setup? I’m wondering if there was an adjustment period you had to go through or what tweaks to your press game you might have had to do. And holy collision!!! That looked like that was going to turn out so bad!
What happened to the snowboard industry 25 years ago that they are just now trying to evolve out of plastic bindings? We had the K2 clicker in 93.. that thing worked really good you just needed stiffer boots.. but Jake Burton wanted to be able to drive his car in his boots so the whole industry stopped evolving..as long as the graphics were cool...the jibbers didnt care.
Hey guys i need help! I tried the Felix So boots in a store with the 2024 stanard step on binding. There is a massive vertical gap of like 10mm between the cleat of the ouside of each boot, to the holder of the binding. the inner cleat is touching the bindings holder nicely. but on the outside it can move down and slam against the holder every turn. We tried different sizes of bindings and even a different shoe type, but there was always this gap in varying sizes on the outside of the shoe to the binding. Any ideas what this is about? i can find anything online.
Whenever i hear good things about an item i dont see them constantly use then u know its bs cuz otherwise theyd use it if it were that great. Burton really gotta make the setup a bit cheaper and improve the padding imo.
How do the boots for the Step Ons feel? Everyone has their oppinion on the bindings, but I’ve never heard anything about the boots. I’m curious to know if they feel different when walking in them or of there is any significant difference in weight compared to a normal boot.
Boots are no different than non-Step Ons, it just depends on if you like the Burton "fit". DC has licensed the tech so they have 2 models if you're a fan of theirs.
I have the Burton swaths and they are super light imo and I have a ton of room in the toe box area and they feel great. When I first had my step ons I wasn’t a fan of the boa setup because I could never crank them down like I could on my old setup but as I learned to trust the Burton setup I now just tighten them enough and never touch them again until I take them off. No more super tight boots! Although some people like the tight boot feeling (Tommie Bennett for example). Anyway, the boots aren’t for anyone and I highly recommend at least trying them on first if you can’t demo them. Just remember, how they fit in the store is how they will always be, there is no “break in” period. Oh and get the right size (it’s the same as your normal shoe size). I don’t know how JB rides in a whole size smaller boot…ouch!
Not true. Everyone on the mountain is responsible for staying in control and riding within your ability. If you can’t stay in your lane, you need to slow down. That mentality that if you are downhill you are released of all liability is a flat out myth.
@@23JMRH how much slower could that guy go exactly? There is a reason why downhill people have right of way and that is because people coming from uphill can SEE and AVOID them. It doesn’t even have to be written anywhere, it’s f’n common sense. smh

New snowboarders should not be on the mountain when only one run is open and 1/2 the county is there. They are too dangerous to themselves and others. I saw 4 people sledding out in just 1 1/2 hours at Keystone. Give it a rest. You have all season to learn. Don’t get me started on parents with kids on ropes early season. Extremely selfish and dangerous.
@@davinderc Noooo, because experienced snowboarders don’t crash into other people. Everyone I know has gotten hit by a beginner at keystone these past few weeks. EVERYONE!!! A couple, more than once. Fine, let the be out there, but they will get sued!!
