I have a Compact and use it constantly. Love it!!! I've attached a Nano Clip, which lets it hang unobtrusively inside my pocket. I am a huge fan of the combo tool. Amazing scissors. The pen has saved me at work more then once...lol I got it last Christmas and am finally getting the hang of sharpening it with the Victorinox ceramic pen sharpener tool. Fantastic edc pocket knife.
I've carried a succession of Tinkers every day for about 40 years. I've lost some, surrendered some, given some away, and ruined one, . One thing I've never done is broken one. If my crotch is covered, I guarantee I have a Tinker or Super Tinker tucked away somewhere..
I have a Spartan, a Hiker, a Compact, three Climbers, three Swisschamp, a Workchamp as well as plenty other Victorinox models... My favorite models are the 91mm ones. The exact model will depend on what I believe I'll need during the day. If I'm outdoors, a Huntsman would be better than a Climber because the former has a wood saw whereas the latter is better for urban EDC. The Compact is comparable with the Climber - the first has two and the second has three layers. It all depends on what you need at the moment. You can't go wrong with a Victorinox knife in your pocket!
To me, the scissors are mandatory. So my "baseline" sak is the Climber, rather than the Tinker/Spartan. The Compact is cool, and I carry one sometimes, but it is more limited imo, because of the combo tool. I judge everything as compared to the Climber, using it as the standard of measure. This is just imo, of course.
I have a swiss army knife that I found...really!! It has a big and small blade, a bottle opener with a screwdriver, and that notch used to bend wire. The notch used together with the big blade is used to skin wire as well. It also has a can opener with a smaller screwdriver. Then there's tweezers and a toothpick. I like it!!!
I have a classic that I carry in my back packet everywhere. I have a swiss champ for true multitool and a one handed trekker for when I need an edc where i cant carry a firearm.
I have an Officers model, Large Blade, small Blade, Large screwdriver blade with wire stripper, Can Opener small flat head screwdriver, Leather punch and cork screw. On the blade it says Victorinox, Switzerland Stainless Rsstfrie. The other side it says Officer Suisse Umbrella or crossbow with a plus sign. It is red, It has a Teepee with the logo Camping and the Swiss Army Shield all in silver. It was purchased for $5.00 at a yard sale. It is my EDC small knife.
My favorite SAK is the Fieldmaster, which is in the Tinker line. It's a Super Tinker with a saw, I believe. Assume knife! The Compact is the one I carry most in town, however.
No worries. Love the videos, thanks for making them. I've been seriously considering modding a Scientist or Yeoman myself. I did find a guy on eBay who'd managed to get hold of some boxed and unused Scientists but, stupidly, eBay won't allow knife sales to the UK.
What a great video! Thank you! If the holy trinity of Swiss army knives are the basic knives from which most other knives can be created by adding layers, I would remove the compact and replace it with a Bantam. I know we may have a little 85 vs 91 mm issue there though!
My favorite 91mm SAKs *3 layer Camper* - (2 blades, bottle/can openers with screwdrivers, cork screw, saw, awl/reamer) *4 layer Huntsman* - (adds hook and scissors) *5 layer Ranger* - (adds smaller flat screwdriver, chisel and metal file) *6 layer Handyman* - (adds pliers) I just love having a saw. Corkscrews > T-grip Philip's drivers. Also, I always have to add plus scales and get my pen. Favorire 58mm Rambler Manager Minichamp I wish they came in black. I also wish there were versions with a light and no pen (since my 91mm always has a pen and I replace one of the other scale tools with a firefly ferro, the light plus the displaced scale toothpick would be a perfect compliment).
2:39 The Awl! To me, this is, after the actual knife blade, the most important tool on SAKs. I would not even consider ANY SAK that does not have it! I have done hundreds of jobs/tasks etc with this tool. My favourite!

I like the 84 mm size. Spartan/Tourist, Tinker/Tinker Small. The closest to a small Compact is the Waiter. No scissors, but otherwise the same. From what I understand, the Tourist and the Tinker Small, as well as the entire Evolution/Delémont have been discontinued (2023 and thereafter). Sad. The Waiter seems to survive.

Usually, when the emblem is on the back there is going to be an ad on the front scale. They started putting the parcel hook and around 1992 so I would say it is older than that
For 2 reasons, I like red. 1. It's nostalgic and takes me back to my Boy Scouts years that I remember fondly. 2. EVERYONE knows what a Swiss Army Knife is when it's red and they don't bat an eye at it. Makes my life easier since I'm a gymnastics coach. Lol

agreed, I occasionally carry a silver cadet since it's so discrete and always miss the scissors

I have a Deluxe tinker and the Swiss army emblem is on the back side and it also does not have a partial hook ,what year is that from?
