The title of the piece is from Wilfred Owen’s Poem and the following lines:
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;

And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

Your CD Furious Angels is one of my most prized possessions in my collection, it was one of only two copies I ever found in a store in my country Hungary. This was in around 2002, we still barely had access to rarities like this. It had been the soundtrack of my adolescence and I go back to it regularly to this day, nothing quite like your expressive and poetic lyrics and music, nor will there ever be. Thank you for returning!

In my opinion he is one of the most underrated musicians.
I like his works a lot…but : His songs are lacking subtility and nuances. All notes of his melodies are always played at the same level. I guess that’s the way of composing for electronic musicians. I think he can still improve on this matter

Rob, i'm fan of your old sound, like "Clubbed to death" («Kurayamino variation»). In 2002, i started to write music inspired by this track. I miss your old beats, but ... This is the best reincarnation of classical music that I heard. The only thing I regret that I can not hear it live. Sorry for my English, I'm from Russia)

Well spotted mikerhinos. It's in the piano accompaniment when the strings play the theme first perhaps. I only heard this in that accompaniment in the last week. Or perhaps as it's piano led to?
I don't know, I think it's mainly the first 2 minutes that reminds me the instrumental version of Forbidden Colours (the vocal version with Sylvian sounds more "electronic").
Anyway it sounds awesome, the second half is very powerful, that's again a great track Rob !
I love Forbidden Colours and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The main piano melody reminds me perhaps of the Blue Nile a bit (Automobile Noise).

It never ceases to amaze me, every time I listen, how the last bits of the melody sound so nocturnal, and like a calm acceptance after loudly defying the "good night". Such a powerful yet reflective piece.
Rob Dougan ought to be fated as one of the most original composers of this early century.

After A Long Night, I find myself coming back to here this track, haunting, delicate but powerful.
I just came across one of your songs and I was, wait a second, this is the same guy of Furious Angels, this is the Matrix guy! I am sitting here for the second hour hoping you would have more music. Not only that your music is such elegant and beautiful, but it shows how deeply sensitive you are. I love this one in particular since it felt like a fresh breeze of happiness, hope, pain and love caressing my soul. I am dancing Tango movements to it! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
