  • Did you just book your first high profile rock and roll music revue and now industry professionals are throwing around fancy terms and phrases like "stageplot," "rider," "input list," or worse yet: "what's your draw on a weeknight?" Fear not! In this concise and safe for work video I will teach you all about what a stage plot is, why it's important to have one for your band, and how to graduate from quickly sketching yours on the back of an iHop napkin. The soundguy will probably still be a dick to you, but it could buy you 4 fluid oz of respect. Stay vigilant.

Hi there Spencer with Shreducation here. You’ve found me! I’ve been teaching guitar and playing live music for over 15 years, and as of Summer 2021 I now teach guitar over the internet!
I teach beginner to advanced students and everything in between. Some might say I’m mean… Some may even say I’m CRUEL… but hey LOOK, if we can’t make learning guitar fun and easy with a little light-hearted comedy on the way I don’t know how else we’re gonna get through it. It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll!
If you have any questions PLEASE ASK I’m an OPEN BOOK and am HERE TO HELP. Over the course of this channel I will be sharing my knowledge on all things guitar, gear, effects, songwriting, live performance, you name it. Let loose with the questions, if it’s a big topic I’ll make a video about it :)
My ultimate goal for my students is for that you never need me as a guitar teacher again, and that you never have to experience walking into a room with a bunch of musicians and feel dumb. Let’s make that happen starting today.

I learned at a young age that it’s very important to be on good terms with the sound guy. Every sound guy I’ve encountered at shows is the old stereotypical boomer or a genX boomer who is also a musician (= arrogant)
They can be extremely vindictive if they ever feel disrespected by other arrogant musicians who are younger and less talented than them.
It’s always best to be respectful to them and buy them a drink or offer them something like a free shirt from your merch table.
When you are friends or at least on good terms with the sound guy, they’ll put forth a little more effort into the sound quality of your performance and it makes a huge difference

Very true!! Also worth noting if anyone in your band says something like “if you could notch out like 2 db around 4K” the sound guy will not be impressed he will think you are a douche

i work at a union venue, the sound guy situation is getting better for sure
but consoles are programmed a week ahead sometimes. we need that ACCURATE input list and stageplot.
not the one from a year ago before you added 15 pan flute players and a gong

Hahahaha I hear ya man! I had a cool experience this weekend at union venue. They emailed for our plot two days ahead of the show, sent it over. We had 15 minute changeover/line check. We had WIRELESS written big where the lead singer was, and we brought our own wireless mic just in case they didn’t read it ahead of time or theirs wasn’t working or whatever. Anyway we get onstage and say hey just a reminder we need a wireless for lead vocal and the response was “AHHH ITS WAYYY TOO LATE FOR THAT NOW” oh ok well we have our own we can just plug that in “WELL NEVER BE ABLE TO HOOK THAT UP IN TIME ILL GRAB OURS” it was on the plot I sent.
We know nobody looked at that shit! It’s all good, they don’t have to be mad at me about it though we’re all on the same team. Did not get through all the channels before having to start the set but oh well. Set went well and fun was had!
