    Nice one George! It was the same for us up here. It wasn’t the amount of snow, just the drifts that were causing the trouble.
    It was pretty amazing to see the whole farming community coming together to keep the country moving too.
    Take care mate :)
    👍

    Such tiny snowfall. I had an inch a couple of nights ago, so I used my Husqvarna 350 leaf blower to clear it off the drive. An inch isn't enough for the actual snow blower to get a hold of it well, and the post office doesn't like coming down my 200 yard drive in any snow. With an inch of powder the leaf blower clears it in two passes, I do the left side in both directions and it's clear in 20 minutes of slow walking. The actual snow blower takes four passes, and then cleanup at the wider parts. Previous storm dropped 12" of powder here in Durham (New Hampshire, not the one where I used to live in the Land of the Prince Bishops) here and nearly 3 feet about an hour away on I93. That took an hour to clear. The French Canadians have a lot of JCB snow plowing videos. JCBs like yours seem much better suited to snow clearance than the massive front end loaders we have at work, and which many shopping malls have stationed there year round just for the winter snow. So civilized compared to the Nuffield 10/68 I occasionally drove in Bedfordshire in the 90s. Bloody hell, you are around the north west of Bedford? I worked at RAE in the 80s, up at Thurleigh, then at Hunting in the 80s and 90s before I emigrated. I used to take Church Lane on Friday afternoons on the way home to Park Avenue when the traffic in Bedford was an utter disaster. I used to ride out of a stable at Thurleigh and cycled all over the area north of the river. I was there most of 1983-1997 and I don't think I ever saw snow that needed plowing, though I did see Church Lane flooded more than once.

    Excellent vid George, didn’t see any farmers out with snow ploughs where I live in Kent. The roads were dreadful. You do a great service for your community.

    Enjoyed your drive down Bedford High Street! I used to go to the college at Silsoe many years ago, so Bedford was our social stamping ground as students.

    Bet you've noticed how suddenly, all the other drivers are you friend George :) Had about 8 inches in Lincoln. Most in one dollop since I've been here '79. No need to go out so car safe at top of the hill.

    It sounds daft I know but DO NOT REMOVE THE SNOW. If you remove the snow then there is ice underneath being exposed just take off the top layer but not all of it

    How does snow Plowing work being a farmer is it voluntary work or is there costs covered by councils etc ? Great video cheers

    • @mikiekearney1771
      @mikiekearney1771 6 лет назад

      Reece Swann the council are not going to cover costs

    • @reeceswann4
      @reeceswann4 6 лет назад +2

      Mikie Kearney that’s why I have asked just wondering as it’s a days work and fuel etc for the publics sake what do the farmers get out of it apart from racking up machine hours ?

    • @barnaby5896
      @barnaby5896 6 лет назад +2

      Reece Swann and for them is voluntary because Bedford borough council are very lazy and didn't grit or plow the snow

    • @matbt1234
      @matbt1234 6 лет назад +6

      Most councils have set contracts with local farmers and most have published routes they follow. Counicls also provide the ploughs and gritters sometimes for the farmers and most councils do pay the farmer.

      Memories of an old mate of mine _ Johnny , when he was out snow ploughing for his boss, there just happened to be 5 pubs on his patch, who always had their car parks pushed out.
      Johnny having been in the merchant marine had a taste for rum!! .....by the time he'd done the last pub, Johnny was feeling neither the cold or pain.

      Well it snows every year in Canada so they should be used to it. In the UK and Ireland it does not snow very often as especially not on this sort of scale. There was a lot more snow in some places than others.
