  • Go back in time and see General Motors vision behind the 1939 Futurliner at Mirror Lake Classic Car show. One of only four existing futurliners today, this restored futurliner has spared no detail. Find out why the futurliners are so popular and what was the purpose behind General Motors Parade of Progress in 1953.

Lake Mirror is one of my favorite places in FL. What a great setting for the car show.

I actually did stumble across a Future Liner once and even collected a photo of it sometime later. About 20 years ago I wandered into an impound lot outside of Phoenix Arizona. There I found a derelict looking Future Liner. It had been rear ended pretty hard probably by another Future Liner as it was crumbled from top to bottom. I also found another post crash photo. But wait, there's more. Local to me there is a guy who salvaged the cab section of a Future Liner and mounted it on a forward control flat bed tow truck. Send me a link to post the photos I have.

Imagine if GM didn't pull the plug on the Parade of Progress. What would they be showing today?

I watched a Restoration of one of these on "Bitch'n Rides". These things are great and those were the wonderful years. I want to know where is my Flying Car?

I live in Utah and was fortunate to have toured Dave Kindig’s shop while his team was restoring the one there. They did such a great job.

His information is a bit incorrect. The original engines were small four cylinders, changed to six cylinders when repurposed after the war. As for other information: The only way the small motors were able to move these beasts was with extensive muli-layered gearing via an odd transmission of sorts. Both the front and rear axles were "dualies"; yes, two wheels per side on the front and back totaling eight wheels. The entire frame, flooring, and basic paneling of the body is wood, no metal except for exterior sheets for the finish. Top speed was thirty mph (but certainly not up a hill!).

Wow built in 1939 and still looks cool and rugged. What happened GM? Wish GM was like it was back in its hay day.

What was the point of this vehicle and this isn’t an antagonistic question I’m genuinely curious was it supposed to be a bus or was it supposed to be for cargo use one would’ve thought that it was supposed to be for RV but I see that back area and it just looks like it’s for cargo or something
