The psychology of getting mentally affected by people flaming you is so real. I KNOW I should just ignore those people, but it's hard to not let it affect you. I guess leaving voice & chat is the right move, after all? Makes the game a bit more lonely though, sometimes.

I personally keep voice chat. Remove text chat 100% for sure, do it now (all chat and team chat) but voice chat can be nice.
From my experience there are either useful comms or dogshit comms but no in between. When someone says something that is not useful you need to stop everything you're doing and mute them ASAP, don't give them the benefit of the doubt

Spilo, I appreciate how you relate game situations to real life. Especially when you’re 1 on 1 coaching. Shows you genuinely care and want people to succeed not only in the video game but in real life. Not a lot of coaches do that. Bravo 👏🏼

I had a game where a widow was crying about not having a pocket while the other widow did. So I willingly swapped to mercy and shoved my staff up his butt.
We were all in VC, which made this better. So he gets widow diffed. I'm talkin 7 kills and 19 deaths diffed. But the entire time I was over the top roasting him alive. Near the end of it, he swapped to ashe, I went into drill.sargent mode and he got back on widow. We 100% lost, but it felt cathartic.
That was a really fun game lol

I hate people who think the scoreboard is what describes the way a game goes. Flaming someone for doing 3k less damage than the next DPS and less than the tank is just silly and toxic. I wouldn't even flame someone if they had the most deaths on the team I'd just suggest politely what they could play to fit our teamcomp/ how they could counter the enemy team's. But leaving voicechat and muting match chat just to avoid this makes games feel lonely, playing with positive people is more than half the fun of this game imo. But I find lobbies with toxicity near League Of Legends levels...

I had a hard time when I started the game. It's my first time with a community like that. Being 40 I didn't have the online experience back when I was gaming a lot and when I played wow I went to a role playing server which was really relaxed. I was a bit shocked but now I see it as a training field to drone out the hateful voices against me. I can't ignore others getting flamed though.
Just today a frustrated dps first blamed the supports for not healing, when I said healing for me was fine they went after me telling me I didn't do any damage though. They had no response to me stating it's nothing to do with the heals bit because I'm not good and when I died it was bad positioning. They wanted to point out my damaga as bastion was super low and didn't even realize I was playing Hanzo for 99% of the match 😂.
After that the tank was trolling of course. Anybody was to blame but them... Sad fellow but at least that had some kind of comedy to it...

Something I've been trying recently is just unbinding my scoreboard, because even when im not getting flamed I judge myself too often. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT the solution for everyone tho.
I miss out on so much information, but I personally think that the negativity in my brain does more damage to my performance than that information provides. It's not for everyone but if you hit tab way too often this might be a good way to help.
Bonus is that I can't look at my teammates stats and find reasons to blame them for my mistakes. It's easy to blame a 2k damage genji but I need to recognize that I'm the only one I can control.

    • @alfred9805

I don't really care if flaming the genji makes him top 500 in a gold lobby. I just think that getting mad at someone over a video game is a waste of my time and energy. Plus it's just an asshole move to yell at someone who might just be having a bad game.

i dont argue with my teammates because i dont see them as my equals. i also dont want them to get better either, so when im feeling particularly psychopathic, ill start agreeing with a teammate after they make a dumb take to reinforce their belief that they understand the game. This will mindfuck them later and make it harder for them to accept the fact that they might be wrong, thus making it harder for them to win games and more importantly harder to queue into me. alpha = mute them. beta = actually listen to them (💀)/argue with them and hope for an ameliorative discussion (💀). sigma = unmute them right before the game ends and say “after giving it some thought, i think you were actually right! i never thought about it that way! i should’ve swapped to mercy and pocketed you! This games on ME guys!” This tactic is guaranteed to make them derank and more importantly be sad irl (which is deserved because how dare they share their opinions with you?). The more sincere the better btw. The cognitive dissonance caused by the disconnect between their perceived understanding of the game and their actual ranked results, will make them lose self confidence in other areas of their life. If done correctly, you may send them down a dark path of drug addiction and mental illness (once again completely deserved for subjecting you to a much worse fate: being forced to listen to their opinions).
