  • Environmental and engineering studies will soon be conducted on Singapore's east coast. They will look into whether land reclamation is feasible and the impact on nature. It is the first step to realising the vision of Long Island -- a project that will see three land tracts add some 800 hectares of land -- about twice the size of Marina Bay today -- to the current coastline. It is part of Singapore's long-term plans to guard against rising sea levels and create land for future needs. Rebecca Metteo reports.

The reclamation project will take decades to complete and the construction of which will close off the area and sea view for decades as well. East Coast is well known for its extensive beach activities for Singaporeans and it will be unimaginable the disruption of lives the decades of construction may cause. If the main benefit of the proposed long island is to face off against rising sea level, will installing tidal gates be a better option? these tidal gates are tried and tested method in Marina Bay Reservoir.

Bad idea. With this, we are left with Changi and Sembawang beach to relax for free.
Sea clarity will be affected again with this reclamation.
This Seawall will only protect East Coast area so I don't see it will solve the rising sea level.
And the "long island" housing is only for the rich, leaving out low to middle class citizens. It definitely does not benefit the low to middle income.

To revolutionize Singapore's urban development and international event hosting, a transformative proposal involves acquiring Batam and Bintan islands from Indonesia, coupled with the construction of a six-lane bridge linking these islands to Singapore's mainland. This innovative infrastructure project promises seamless connectivity and a robust platform for economic and cultural integration. A pivotal aspect of this strategy is the relocation of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix to these islands, effectively circumventing the persistent issues of traffic congestion and road closures in central Singapore during the event. Additionally, this development presents a strategic opportunity to diversify property distribution across the region. By expanding into these new areas, it mitigates the risk of disproportionate property price inflation in high-demand zones like the East Coast. This forward-thinking approach not only enhances urban planning and leisure experiences but also ensures a more balanced and sustainable real estate market.
Yes, it depend if Indonesia willing to sell those 2 islands at fair price (Not FairPrice hor) 😂

Granted that sea level rise based on current estimate as 1 ft by 2100, if the world does nothing or little, other areas are also threatened. With that rise, more rainfall frequently due to dilution of ocean and all else been equal, we still sink. Long island maybe more suitable for erosion and crashing waves.
