This period was in my opinion the BEST time for Rolex. They had the opportunity to go any way they wanted with their watches and to continue the ‘tool watches’ line and evolve them the way they did, was perfect
Thanks Cam, this is definitely a tutorial which answers the question "Why should I buy a Rolex"; Their ability to evolve the dive watch/tool watches, striving for excellence and of course, selling more watches, LOL!!!
Noticed the corroded hands on the 16800. My 1981 came with corroded hands. I sent it back to Rolex twice for replacement. The last time in 1983. Any opinion has to the effect on its value?
Hi Cam, I have owned my matt dial 16750 since new, purchased in Hong Kong in '83. I have always thought that it improved on the 1675 with 1.) the newer 4 hertz movement, 28,800 vph, 2.) quick set date, 3.) hacking seconds, and 4.) 100M versus the 50M of water resistance of the 1675. And yes, I know that the later 1675's had hacking seconds, about half the production run. Bottom line a better functioning and more wearable watch with ALL the aesthetics of the 1675. Can't find a nice 1675 at the right price? Get a nice matt dial 16750 cheaper, and a wearable vintage watch. BTW it's never been to Rolex, so I still have the original ivory patinated dial and hands, and with a recent cosmetic service from Beau at LA Watch Works, it looks like new. It's now on it's third bezel insert, and third acrylic crystal, and I have ALL the old parts! You should see the fade on my original insert! Full set, (everything) and one professional pilot owned and worn for 37 years.
These ones go really quick! They were live on the site for a couple days before the video premiered in this case though. We do a weekly mailer with new additions as well to get the latest as soon as they are posted.
I have a very nice glossy 1675 from 66 so I think I’d go a matte dial, there’s a nice honest one here in Melbourne I’ve got my eye on but I’ll have to wait a bit, already bought 2 watches this month😬, gotta stretch em out to keep the better half happy lol Cheers Cam

I always thought the triple six had drilled lug holes on the case
Tough choice, but if I had to pick only one, 16750 matte dial all day long.
