1. Online order - not widely available in stores 2. People don’t think of Google as a phone manufacturer when deciding 3. Android has smaller market share in the US. 4. The marketing of Google Pixel is not year round. You’d be lucky to even catch an ad raising awareness.
I agree. He seems to miss the point on some things and gloss over others. If you just look at global market share, then Apple isn’t too big. According to Oberlo, as of November 2023, Apple has a 29.64% market share in the smartphone market worldwide. This means that almost three in 10 smartphone users worldwide use an Apple phone. From what I know, Apple is popular in the USA, but I don’t know what other markets Apple dominates in. Google has had different manufacturers make their phones over the years, including LG, HTC, Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, and Foxconn. However, this inconsistency in manufacturers does not necessarily mirror the inconsistency of the quality of Google-branded phones. From my own experience, Google, aside from their camera, didn’t seem to provide a better experience or features compared to something like Samsung. When Google Nexus first came onto the scene, people were used to buying phones that were subsidized by carriers. It was a big jump from paying close to nothing compared to the starting price of $529. I think back then, subsidized phones with a plan came to around $50 a month. Today if people go with a big carrier they end up paying the same excluding the cost of a phone.
the only reason I have reservations about the Pixel is cause Samsung's not quite there yet compared to Qualcomm, otherwise it'd be the auto-buy brand that the Notes were back in the N9 days
- Pixels are only available in around 30 countries only (mostly online). Otherwise it can't be found at all. - Their prices outside USA aren't competitive - They started just this year with the long lasting software support (it should've started from the begining). They can have at least 5% market share just by making them available worldwide.
Exactly. Their issue isn't distrust, at least not so much more than other companies. The amount of people who just don't fucking know that they exist...
Their price in Europe at least are absolutely competitive. The performance are similar to top tier Samsung and Apple smartphone and they sell for like 60% of the price.
Google absolutely does not listen to their user base for what they want... They requested headphone jacks as microSD storage expansion, larger storage on the base models, more storage on high-end models, fingerprint sensors being moved to the back. All of those hardware decisions that they could differentiate themselves with, they ignore and they push their software. And even then Google will give you awesome software like voice commands that work when your phone is locked and then take it away from you
One thing about Pixel advertising (would also apply to almost the entire android smartphone ecosystem) is that whenever Google gets celebrities to endorse it, it seems forced advertising in a way as vast majority of them use iPhones. In some instances, celebrities were tweeting the Pixel ads while in the tweet the following quote came up "Tweeted from an iPhone"
1:20 How can lockdown everything to their ecosystem and take advantage of customer by charging upgrade the device for half of device price a best experience?
The problem with the pixel is that it's not exceptional in any category but the camera (and even there it's debatable due to the quality being from post-processing). The pixel is a great phone but the average person has barely heard of it, nobody looks for the #2 way to lose weight. It's not a uniquely Google problem, brands like Nokia also flopped due to not having a flagship to make the lineup desireable. Your point on "aspirational" is correct, but it's not because customers don't know what they want. Rather it's because the priority is to be closest to what they perceive to be "the best" even if wrong. That's why customers would rather buy the mid-ranged version of a samsung or apple than a much better pixel or a xiaomi. But the bigger hurdle is whether or not they've even heard of xiaomi or pixel before. Most consumers aren't into phones the way we are and only have a vague idea of what brands exist on the market.
I'm from the USA, Xiaomi doesn't seem to be available at the local stores or cell phone service providers. Unless you are a tech enthusiast then you know where to search and find them. As for smartphone tech, it has gotten so good most people don't need or want to pay for the top tier smartphone. I am not sure if problems in the past have plagued Pixel/Google phones in the past. Over the years Google had many issues with their smartphones from the past: overheating, bluetooth problems, camera issues, software bugs, screen coloration, ect. Google has had different manufacturers make their phones over the years, including LG, HTC, Samsung, Huawei, Motorola, and Foxconn. However, this inconsistency in manufacturers mirrors the inconsistency of the quality of Google-branded phones. From my own experience, Google, aside from their camera, didn’t seem to provide a better experience or features compared to something like Samsung. Then again I'm a tech and keep track of tech and what reviewers say.
@@tamwilfred True,.. Also they need to have a strong USP apart from the camera.. The average person likes a great camera , but they also need a great battery/very good software. Not everybody likes just stock software and then having to download bunch of apps to do stuff which other OEMs provide out of the box. If google just concentrates on software customization and better battery , they'll surely capture better market share.
Meanwhile, I've been a Pixel owner since the 4 but skipped to the 8. The camera on a $600 Pixel battles out with $1000 Samsung and Apple. It's not the fastest, but its fast enough for my needs at almost half the price. Also the Pixel 8 isn't huge. It's small like the Pixel 4. A selling point.
They're cheap in the US, with all the perks and features yet no one wants it because it's not apple. In the other 16 countries where it's available (small indie compagny new to selling phones) the prices are pretty high and absolutely not competitive, and there is so many features missing.
And 5G and VoLTE is also not available in regions Google doesn't sell it officially. Here in Maldives, Pixels are the only ones that don't have that support since Google blocks it in software for our carriers
It the same mindset as people on social media they won't move because all the friends are on it and as mention in the video it has become a affordable status symbol.
Most consumers buy a Samsung phone because they walk into a carrier store or a Best Buy and they sign up there. Which includes a payment plan broken over a period of years for the phone. Most people don't buy their phones out right.
Many pixel features advertised are not available in Singapore. Like the call waiting or assistant answer features. This is ridiculous because Google's regional HQ is here in Singapore. This is on top of neglecting the flagship price tag on it.
Google is there for tax reasons, not because they care about the market. Go see where Google headquarters is in Europe... Ireland? I wonder if that has anything to do with the 12.5% corporate tax... Hum...
Also; one of the reasons why I wouldnt want a pixel, is because I don't trust google to support their own hardware. Just like with google play music, and now with Google podcasts, and just about every other thing Google wants you to get.... Support is very meager and/or limited in its time to live. Which gets especially painful for the price point you're getting the phones at.
I switched from my Pixel 7 Pro to the iPhone 15 Pro Max and now, two months later, I miss my Pixel. I don’t know what everyone else see because the OS on the Pixel is so much better. Simple things like editing text or going back to the previous screen are simply better but I did try to like this iPhone. I will be selling it tho lol
Opposite situation for me. Went from a Galaxy S10+ to an iPhone 12 regular and never looked back. Later on I tried out an S22 Ultra and although it was an amazing experience i never managed to get that same spark I did with iPhone. I sold it and kept my 13 Pro Max. Currently using the 15 Pro Max and so far it’s been great. What consumers really want boils down to what their phone experience is like mixed with what they usually want in a phone that fits their usage style/what they’ve adapted to. Power word being preference. Although there have been times where I do miss having an Android.
@@ElfenLiedAgain But really its a status symbol and a standalone device that people want use people don't want a phone that can do it all just one that does the same things but with shiny coat of paint I am actually surprised that apple still uses phone in its marketing. Might as well call the iWizard just make sure you don't peak behind the curtain.
@@southcoastinventors6583 what the actual fuck are you on about 😂 all I hear is just a reason to try and downplay what I said because I prefer iPhone over Android, sounds like major cope
@@estiennetaylor1260 what an odd way of describing the iOS’s goal of achieving minimalism and simplicity. What, are you going to say that because it’s iPhone that it’s crap, when so many Android skins/OEM launchers have used or taken inspiration from the iOS and its aesthetic? Performance tests show that the hardware on the iPhone have also lived up to its name.
I am currently using the pixel 8 pro and loving it. I've never had a pixel until literally now. I've had the iPhone until after the 6 (I had a 6 not plus) and loved it. Most recently I was all about OnePlus phones. I started with the 5T, then the 6T then 7 Pro then 9 pro and that's what I just switched from. The battery life of my pixel is amazing, literally all day battery at least. I will say performance is lacking even compared to my older OnePlus 9 pro but it's still pretty good for regular stuff. But OMG the cameras! The photos are super awesome and true to life colors and sharpness! I can also do soooo much with the AI and editing before and after I take photos or videos. I'm now a pixel fan and will stick with it for the foreseeable future!
Same here. I'm from the Philippines, google pixel phones aren't available in my country so the only way to snag one is to buy outside of the country or in the grey market. manage to find one(6a) and will never return to any android/ios phone(previous phones are xiaomi poco f2 pro and iPhone Xs). the features exclusive to stock android from google itself is phenomenal! it may not have the fastest chip nor have the infamous fruit logo for the status symbol but wow so wow! just buy one and then try it for a week or so, then tell me if it's not good. 99% of the time you'll be surprised, it may be the only phone you never knew you need.
Just imagine Google actually taking seriously the Pixel line Up worldwide, India and latin america are such a big market for Google and they doesn't sell their phones there, I'm from Mexico and I love having a Pixel, such a feature pack phone and a great alternative to those Xiaomi things, but I had to buy it over a third party on Amazon.
This video seems a bit half baked I think. Would be good to connect with tech folks from various regions to get a good idea In the US, iPhone dominates for many reasons, a common one is iMessage along with the ecosystem locking people in, leading to peer pressure In other regions, it’s brand loyalty (imo) All this to say, there are many reasons, and the ones you mention are definitely part of the conversation, but I think a lot is missing
@@LogicallyAnswered Maybe in the future we can see a collab with tech RUclipsrs from various regions discussing this. I think that would be phenomenal and gain quite a lot of traction Looking forward to future uploads and I’m glad you’re accepting the criticism in the comments with an open mind
One thing to add, I think giving people “what they want” is really a vocal minority The general public doesn’t care about the specs, they just want a phone that works, at least from my experience working in the telecom industry for the last decade
I actually ended up buying a "high-end" gaming laptop from costco because I wanted a new laptop and my dad (the costco membership holder) informed me about a sale they were having. Still got a regular iphone instead of a pro series though
Glad to hear that you’ve had a good experience with the Pixel man. I know what you mean what you say it’s not a big name, but given that it’s from Google, you would very much expect it to be
@@notafbihoneypot8487 GrapheneOS is reason why I got pixel 8 and so far I'm very happy with it. And as long as they keep their word in those 7y of support my next phone will be another pixel
Yeah it's seen as a software company, with stuff like it's search engine, RUclips, Gmail, Android etc. If they market the pixel more then people would actually buy it because most people don't know a Google Pixel is an option when buying a phone
@@LogicallyAnswered Google was never known to be a phone manufacturer. It was just the brand behind the software. Apple shows how important the combined hardware and software experience needs to be for the user.
None knows the pixel, that's why they don't buy it. I have a pixel 6a and none knows what a pixel actualy is, they think it is a chinese smartphone and not Google's phone.
Every time a family member asks me what phone they should buy I tell them to get a pixel, they say they've never heard of it but then buy one anyway. Every single time they've loved it. Google just needs better marketing. Edit: Also they need to enable features like "now playing" by default. They have all these great unique features that most pixel owners don't know about because the average person doesn't look at reviews for their phone or explore the settings menu.
I really love pixel phones. They have incredible cameras, the best feeling of android, good IA functions, but I think pixels don’t age good, and they also are not power machines, tensor processors are just not so good (I had the g2)
Am Currently using Pixel 8 pro and am very satisfied with this phone . Google themselves to blame for not getting more market share because they don't sell in many countries. Have to buy parallel imported Japanese version here in New Zealand
@@LogicallyAnsweredSony Xperia though not popular. Otherwise OnePlus Nord, certain Motorola and ASUS phones, and RealMe still have headphone jack and micro SD. The problem is all companies are getting greedy: no headphone jack, no micro SD, and no charger in the box, they are all doing collectively and profiting from it. So by not listening to customers, yes you're right they do make more money but people are not very happy and will try to find alternatives when available. Google market share only increased bc LG and Huawei left the US market, so it's artificial growth.
Simple reason, they don't intend to compete with sales nor focus on the revenue they just want to promote the best features of Android, so people can make the realization that an Android phone is better than Iphone. So, even if people dont necessarily buy the Pixel, they're satisfied enough if people buy an Android device. They profit massively from bringing people inside the Android/Google ecosystem.
The thing with Pixels is that they don't age very well and lose performance very quickly compared to other android phones. That may be a reason why people aren't buying them. Edit: Source ruclips.net/video/PhFwDJCEhBg/видео.htmlm33s
The main reason they don't sell well is because you don't have to buy them if you want to be in the Android ecosystem. If you want to be in the iOS ecosystem, you have to buy an iPhone. Google has never truly supported the pixel with all of its might and power
They are also harder to find in my experience. Id have to import one, and why bother when I can get a samsung or oneplus with a warranty for less money
I have to disagree. I believe the two main reasons are availability and price. Outside US Pixel Phones are hard to find and insanely expensive. There's really no advantage in buy one of these outside US.
You presented Pixel as some perfect magic phone with everything anyone wants. I can speak as a Pixel owner, Pixel is far, faaaar from a perfect phone. Actually I wouldn't recommend it to people who are not photography enthusiasts. It has a ton of bugs and quality control is questionable. Again, if camera is important to you, go for it, but otherwise, pick something different.
I don't think this video raises some other main points: - Pixel's performance is similar to or even less than many phones in the same or less price range, Ex. iQoo Neo 7, Poco F5, etc. Even though Pixel has a Tensor chip, it is just a rebrand of Samsung's Exynos, Yeah there are some differences between them, but according to me, these differences are one of the downsides. - Pixel's Network Performance is abysmal, at least in India. Random drops in network connectivity even in areas supporting 5G. For many $200 smartphones from Poco, Xiaomi has better network performance than Pixel. - Pixel's camera is pretty cool but causes severe heating issues, usually due to its Tensor chip. - Pixel's battery is pretty bad, smaller capacity combined with power-hungry chip. I think Google is trying to solve many problems at the same time so that they have differentiating factor compared to other phones, but I think they have only cracked the camera problem.
They don't have 5G and HD voice in basically most of the world. Google just blocks it in software in unsupported regions. The pixels are not that good in terms of performance when compared to others and the price increases significantly in most of the world.
From what I've heard the Pixel 9 is on track to have a fully google designed chip, which should fix most of the pixels problem, so I'll just wait and see, worst case scenario I'll buy the next gen Nothing phone.
every year 😂 next year will be different ! i heard this when they launched pixel 2,4, 6 and 7. especially when they were hyping tensor chips with 6 and 7 which turned out nowhere near as good as snapdragon and Apple A
@@noah-j00 I dunno about you but when I heard that the tensors were just exynos chips with some google designed ai cores I kinda expected them to suck since exynos chips suck ass, but right now I have hope since previous chip prototypes from Google looked promising.
You make some good points about why the iPhone sells so well, but they don't really apply to the Pixel. The reasons Pixels have so little market share right now are... a) They aren't sold in most countries b) In the few countries they are sold in outside of the US, they are more expensive and lack some of the software features c) They're new! I know Google just released the Pixel 8, but in hindsight their first real iPhone competitor was the Pixel 6, and even that one was a buggy first-gen product. So, considering that the first actually good reliable iPhone competitor from Google (aka the Pixel 7) was only released a just over year ago, and they've already seen increased market share, it's a little too early to make any conclusions.
I'm a proud owner of a Pixel i payed 300 bucks for. I spend about 30 minutes a day on it my phone, so there was really no way i would pay much more for a phone for the price of a high end GPU.
Really good analysis, this channel is consistently original. Btw thanks for making the silo ad less invasive as well as less sensational. I watched the whole thing and found it cool. Best of luck with it.
I got it! google needs to make a $3000 smartphone then make a regular priced pixel that looks similiar with similar branding pixel pro phones become a luxury
I have a pixel 5 and I love it I'm confused as to why everybody is so concerned with Google having their data. what do you all think that Google is going to do with your data that they're not already doing or that they wouldn't already be able to do?
Oh what they could do indeed. You mean spying on a device that you carry with you pretty much everywhere you go and has multi modal access. Please enlighten us how could Google do that without the Pixel
They sell your data to advertisers. They know all of my private details. Afterwards, they will recommend ads to me which is a bit creepy and invasive. Google Pixel phones are riddled with even more Google data collection and mandatory app and software updates, even if you don't want it (Google home launcher will automatically update, even if you want to keep the old launcher version).
0:45 "google is solving all the problems that people generally complain about..." i like ultra power saving mode and fingerprint locked photos folder that comes standard with samsung software, mine is s10e ($200 2023).
S10e is a great phone. I regret switching to the S21FE. S10e was great and honestly S21FE was slow until Android 14. S10e is so well optomized software wise!
this is less "don't give people what they want" & more "actually let know people that the thing they want exists & is available for purchase". well, that & the fact that their selling point is "they're good enough but cheap" doesn't work if you only sell them in the markets where people buy either Luxury badges like Apple, or are power users like Samsung; also there's the little fallacy of Pixel not really offering what people are asking for with their current knowledge of what they like
I'm from India and here is my views. Normally due to the tropical weather here, battery life is always slightly less than what is projected. 1. Let's take the point that pixel takes very good photos. Agreed 2. Now we need a phone that can take atleast 300 photos which means the phone has to survive atleast 3-4 hrs with the camera app. Thats not even possible 3. At the end of the day I want my phone to stay alive to be able to pick calls. Coz that's what phones are primarily there for Now you see my point. Suboptimised processor combined with low battery makes it a phone for those who lives 24/7 in air conditioning environment. Just making 1 strong leg with other 3 weak legs does not make a table usable
It's more like people don't know what is possible. No conscious consumer can or will just buy random things like some tech enthusiast, especially if they have been burned before. Phrasing it as not knowing what they want, is kinda weird. People know what they want, which is first and foremost, ease of use, then good value (they dont know how much an SOC costs so they just go by something that is expensive), and long term support, and thats what market research shows if you analyse it properly and not just look at what item they buy. It cannot provide data about a possible new thing because it doesn't exist yet. It's these things that made iphone popular and the "genius" of Jobs. He simply demonstrated it with a whole event instead of a random ad on whatever most popular media outlet. The whole status symbol aspect is a by product of the price. If the phone/Ui was bad, or iphones were cheap, nobody would use it or acquire it as status symbol. 10:50 erm, it still is. There are many alternatives that are in fact better.
As someone who dabbled in game development, when we do playtesting, we're discouraged to ask for feedback and instead rely on facial cues, body posture, and actual gameplay decisions rather than words. Video games are very much a in-the-moment activity, and when people are asked their opinion, not only does it take them out of the moment, but then they have to convey their experiences into words, which itself is quite difficult, as we all experience things and speak differently. I don't think it's correct to say consumers don't know what they want. They know what they want, it's just difficult to communicate, as is all communication.
Funny how i watch this vid using the Pixel 8 Pro 😂 Joking aside, one of the main reason i bought the Pixel is cuz of that stock Android experience, so far I've been loving it
Pixels are great for non-normies as they"re the easiest to root & install a Custom ROM, it's the only phone brand supported by GrapheneOS & it's one of the few brands CalyxOS supports.
This is US-only based analysis. Very poor. Most of the world buys smartphones for cash without contracts. Chinese brands are insanely popular outside US. Pixels are simply diffucult to find outside US. They are sold with high mark up and with no warranty, but many people still want them.
No expandable storage, no headphone jack, no removable battery, emphasis on the camera and the weird lump for said camera when smart phone cameras have been plenty good for years. Each successive model gets more and more expensive. The pixel really isn't anything I want at all. I used and mostly enjoyed the first generation pixel despite major issues with the amount of storage available and since then it has just dropped features, gotten more expensive and they also reneged on their promises of free cloud storage (which was their stated reason for limiting the storage options) and even revoked the free storage you got from owning a pixel. These things are just a bad experience and if they can't figure that out, they can't be helped. Edit: forgot the stupid hole on the front screen, not buying a phone that has a hole in the screen either.
Almost every pixel has some kind of issue. Price in Asian countries is so damn high. The design is so lame. They price it like a flagship but they don't look like a flagship.
I love my pixel but its more of a niche phone for people who like the ui and photos. It is super customizable with the settings and whatnot but it is not as simple as some phones and isnt for everyone
VALUE PACKED? WHAT???? - Pixel costs DOUBLE of what a Samsung or Xiaomi costs and has half the features, half the storage, way less RAM. Where is the value? Because it's not in specs. - It has an inferior CPU and an inferior modem. What value? - The screen has a lower refresh rate than other brands in same category. So what value? - They have no stores. - They don't even sell the phone in many many countries outside of US. You can't even order it online in my country; only a few shops decided to import it and sell. - Pixel-exclusive "features" are not even available outside US and they are limited to English-only. - The fingerprint is god-awful on ALL pixels since they went in-screen fingerprint reader. The reader was great on the back and side, but no, they had to ruin that. Now it's working maybe 10% of the time. I just use pattern/code like everyone else I know do, because you can't rely on fingerprint on these devices. - Even GPS and mobile signal is just worse compared to others. Pixel is horrible value. All of them. 6a/7a? Get an A53 for example. Much better. 7, 8? Costs way too much. The only "value" they have is the long software update time and the stock Android experience. That's it. It's not worth double the price while having worse hardware.
I used to have a Pixel, and had a Nexus before that. But I jumped ship for Apple. The biggest reason is that, although the features on the Pixel are REALLY good, Google is just kind of sloppy. Bugs that existed from years ago are never squashed; their apps, on their own phones, with their own hardware, freeze or have issues; even their highlighted features, the reason you go for the phone, sometimes just don't work, or you need to figure out how to work around the weird eccentricities of the phones. Iphones, meanwhile, work. In the time I've had an iphone, it's only had an error maybe 5 or so times, whereas I was constantly wrestling with my Pixel to cooperate. Google does give people what they want, but they also don't support the thing that they give. They want market share, but aren't willing to maintain a phone worthy of the share of the market that they want.
I was always a OnePlus guy until the pixel 8 pro, now I'm locked in to google. I have pixel buds pro, I'm upgrading to the 9 pro XL and the pixel watch 3. It's a great ecosystem and great value along with very Apple like fluidity.
I have a pixel and i love it. I think that pixels are popular among the android dev community more than anything. Theres no mistake that people who need an easily unlocked phone will buy a pixel. Its a very niche market indeed.
I have a 2019 LG phone. I wanted to upgrade last year but found LG no longer makes phones. I like LG's interface and would like to keep it, but that's not possible. I also like having removable batteries, as my charging port is broken, so I use an external charger and swap batteries out. I'll likely keep using this old thing until it's not viable anymore... which I suspect will be very soon. 4G just isn't cutting it, anymore.
What I personally want is one single feature on my phone. And considering it's the last phone to be made with it, I'm rocking my note 20 ultra until the day it dies. Then I'll buy a second one.
Google doesn't sell well, because you can get a phone 2 to 4 times cheaper, which is still of good quality and will do at least 80% of what the Google phone does. So, why spend more? I myself was about to get Pixel, until I manually checked sample photos and seen so many defects in those, that I wonder who ever said Pixels have great cameras? I ended up buying OnePlus and I'm very happy about it. No regrets.
I clicked on the "click-bait" title and 30 seconds in I saw you're using this phone as an example. That phone is a piece of crap and the reason why no one is buying it. There, saved myself 12:00 minutes of my valuable time.
2010 - the Nexus model was Google software meets a chosen manufacturer's hardware whereby Google would squeeze any profit to the point that both would make next to nothing on it. They changed partners every other year (HTC, Samsung, LG). Add a matter of fact I read an article that weighed in on the fact that they were losing money on the product such that the hardware manufacturers would jump ship. Meanwhile iPhone and Samsung became dominant regarding their respective operating systems (iOS vs Android). By the time the Pixel brand was established in 2016, the smartphone market was overly saturated (including a whole host of other Asian players Xiaomi, RealMi, ZTE, Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus etc). Don't get it twisted, they sell a really good phone and premium at that, but they'll never catch up - again the market had long ago reached maturity therefore meaningful penetration would be minimally impactful at best.
nope their performance actually sucks i don't know why you don't know this but literally any other mtk or snapdragon chip in the same price range is 50-100% better in terms of power efficiency and thermals meaning it will perform worse over time in gaming which actually matters outside of benchmarks
The problem is the multiple good points about the pixel are not advertised and the things that high end users complain about most users don't need. The handling of phone calls on this phone is beyond anybody else's and the smoothness of integration with Android make it really nice. The pictures are top-notch and in a Hardware sense, it's the most secure phone on the market ( ask the guy who heads Graphene OS if you don't believe me) This company is not trying to trap me into their operating system and lets you change it if you wish to
Google Nexus 5 was the best android I ever had. I loved it, every part of it. I would buy pixel if I lived in the us. Or if they had support on my country.
Google isn't a hardware company. They are a marketing company. Selling phones isn't their main priority. Furthermore pixel phones are far from being perfect.
I only have Pixel and xPeria phones. Google is king of smart features, but they must reinstate the micro-SD card slot and the headphone jack to capture photography enthusiasts and music aficionados...
Also, you need to realize Google gained a lot of market shate due to LG dropping out, and Huawei being banned. Not because Google's Pixel phone was massively successful. The market has consolidated, and it is artificial growth because there are little choices for brands nowadays (at least in US stores).
IMO Google made the Pixel to show what services Google gives as smartphone features. It explains their reluctance to advertise and make more of a marketing push as opposed to other smartphone competitors, who sell smartphones. Google instead sells a 'marketing' of its features in the package of a smartphone.
Focusing on getting market share at all costs is the strategy used by all Silicone Valley statups for over a decade. I dont think that using that strategy is what's causing people to buy the iphone instead
Users don't have defined needs imo they buy on the basis of advertisement and status i bet maximum apple owners wouldn't even care about it's chips capability and would jus buy one as a symbol
Completely agree. The real reason people buy iPhones is because how the marketing makes them feel. The better performance and stuff is just something they use to justify why they’re paying top dollar.
I have a Google Pixel 6 Pro. It is by far the best smartphone I've ever owned and I have fully been converted into a Pixel fanboy. I won't be getting any other brand's smartphones ever again as long as Pixels are still around.
Google price bumped the Pixel 8 Pro this year, to $1000. That's the starting same price as an iPhone 15 Pro. Maybe Google thinks the 8 Pro is of equal value, or maybe they think since the 8 Pro has a 6.7-inch screen they're competing with the iPhone 15 Pro Max which technically got a $100 price bump. To me? No, they're not on equal levels, especially now that people have gotten them in their hands and have found that a lot of the cool features Google showed off in their keynote are not actually done on-device. Compound that with the Tensor G3 still lagging behind Qualcomm and Apple's best (or even the year-old A16), and it just doesn't make sense to me. I like that Google is going for an ecosystem play - the ecosystem is by far the strongest weapon Apple has, and it is oppressively effective in how polished and thought-out all the interactions between Apple devices can be. But the ecosystem play takes time - Apple was working on it since 2001 with the original iPod - and until Google finally catches up, Apple will still be the only one with that advantage. The final nail in the coffin, though... I hate that Apple is the only smartphone company out there who even remotely pretends to care about small phones (RIP the iPhone 13 Mini) and that they're the only ones daring to make an ultra-premium flagship phone that has a screen size smaller than 6.7 inches. I prefer small phones because I ride transit often and need to be able to use my phone with one hand, a design consideration which just went completely out of the window in recent years. My iPhone 15 Pro is still the second-largest phone I've ever owned, but at least it isn't 6.7 inches large. Meanwhile the S23 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro are automatically disqualified because they are 6.8 and 6.7 inches respectively, and feel like unwieldy megaslabs in my slightly-below-average-sized hands.
I don't think pixel is competitive even in USA. Tensor G3 is 2 years behind atlest in performance. The AI features which they advertise are not local, they are sending data to their servers. Yes, the cameras are awesome and take the best photos but thats all they have. Most of the so called AI features don't work outside USA, especially in India. And don't get me wrong at the right price, people do buy their phone. Like pixel 6A around 275 around dollars is steal but they prices it around 400 dollars.. Its just very bad pricing.
Budget smart phones - hard to sell. High End smart phones easy to sell. Last year's High End smart phones, easy to sell. People do not compare Budget -> Old High End smart phones, ever, it isn't a consideration. How long do different types of people play with it before purchasing it, 5-10 minutes max? When you can afford it, or think you can replace it easily, why bother? Answering these questions is why customers don't purchase specific products.
Pixels don't offer much in terms of software in the price range that they target. Android enthusiasts think otherwise but most people would prefer Samsung's OneUI over stock android, or a similar skin from Vivo Oppo or Xioami because they have good quality of life features which stock android doesn't. That's why Pixel's marketshare is the Android enthusiast community.
1. Online order - not widely available in stores
2. People don’t think of Google as a phone manufacturer when deciding
Samsung, a Korean company, owns the US (outside of Apple). Google is made by Americans and they aren't buying it
the only reason I have reservations about the Pixel is cause Samsung's not quite there yet compared to Qualcomm, otherwise it'd be the auto-buy brand that the Notes were back in the N9 days
Also the Pixel is not available worldwide - for example Google doesn't sell phones here in Indonesia
i would buy pixel phones because there is no expandable storage option
- Pixels are only available in around 30 countries only (mostly online). Otherwise it can't be found at all.
- Their prices outside USA aren't competitive
- They started just this year with the long lasting software support (it should've started from the begining).
They can have at least 5% market share just by making them available worldwide.
and Google geolocking 5G features in unsupported countries (even some countries in the EU)
Exactly. Their issue isn't distrust, at least not so much more than other companies. The amount of people who just don't fucking know that they exist...
Their price in Europe at least are absolutely competitive. The performance are similar to top tier Samsung and Apple smartphone and they sell for like 60% of the price.
yep, wish it was manufactured here in brazil
I always wanted a Pixel, but unfortunately, Google doesn't sell them in my country, Brazil :(
Google absolutely does not listen to their user base for what they want... They requested headphone jacks as microSD storage expansion, larger storage on the base models, more storage on high-end models, fingerprint sensors being moved to the back. All of those hardware decisions that they could differentiate themselves with, they ignore and they push their software. And even then Google will give you awesome software like voice commands that work when your phone is locked and then take it away from you
Qhat the user base wants is TSMC
@@mazdaxc90 not everybody wants to play games on their smartphones. Most just want to use it. If pixel solves, heating issues, thats enough

Battery and heating issues, due to substandard Samsung foundries fabrication when compared to competition.
Well said. Good comment.👍
They're cheap in the US, with all the perks and features yet no one wants it because it's not apple.
In the other 16 countries where it's available (small indie compagny new to selling phones) the prices are pretty high and absolutely not competitive, and there is so many features missing.
Pretty much
And 5G and VoLTE is also not available in regions Google doesn't sell it officially. Here in Maldives, Pixels are the only ones that don't have that support since Google blocks it in software for our carriers
it's not officially available here in brazil, but the ones you find are like more than 2 times the price in the US
It the same mindset as people on social media they won't move because all the friends are on it and as mention in the video it has become a affordable status symbol.
@@orionarclight that’s crazy
Google it’s on some major bullshit
I always wanted a Pixel, but unfortunately, Google doesn't sell them in my country, Brazil :(
Also here in south Africa i want one but i cant get it
I switched from my Pixel 7 Pro to the iPhone 15 Pro Max and now, two months later, I miss my Pixel.
Just imagine Google actually taking seriously the Pixel line Up worldwide, India and latin america are such a big market for Google and they doesn't sell their phones there, I'm from Mexico and I love having a Pixel, such a feature pack phone and a great alternative to those Xiaomi things, but I had to buy it over a third party on Amazon.
agreed, if they came to south america with a competitive price they'd probably sell reasonably well
Google sells their phones in India. The issue has been mostly with their service network in india.
This video seems a bit half baked I think. Would be good to connect with tech folks from various regions to get a good idea
In the US, iPhone dominates for many reasons, a common one is iMessage along with the ecosystem locking people in, leading to peer pressure
In other regions, it’s brand loyalty (imo)
All this to say, there are many reasons, and the ones you mention are definitely part of the conversation, but I think a lot is missing
Fair enough, understand where you’re coming from
@@LogicallyAnswered
Maybe in the future we can see a collab with tech RUclipsrs from various regions discussing this. I think that would be phenomenal and gain quite a lot of traction
Looking forward to future uploads and I’m glad you’re accepting the criticism in the comments with an open mind
One thing to add, I think giving people “what they want” is really a vocal minority
The general public doesn’t care about the specs, they just want a phone that works, at least from my experience working in the telecom industry for the last decade
The main cause is TENSOR chips.
Exactly. People use phones for 2-5 years. Why would someone want to be stuck with samsung’s garbage chip technology?
I actually ended up buying a "high-end" gaming laptop from costco because I wanted a new laptop and my dad (the costco membership holder) informed me about a sale they were having. Still got a regular iphone instead of a pro series though
That's the best combo. Better to buy a beefed up gaming pc than an expensive phone unless you really like mobile games.
I have a pixel and love it, I think the problem is that it's not an everyday name, like Samsung and iPhone
Glad to hear that you’ve had a good experience with the Pixel man. I know what you mean what you say it’s not a big name, but given that it’s from Google, you would very much expect it to be
Also the fact I can load a custom ROM on my phone (GOS) and with the pixel 8, 7 years of support its a killer for the money
They have all these great unique features that most pixel owners don't know about because the average person doesn't look at reviews for their phone or explore the settings menu.
yeah I had literally never heard of pixel
I really love pixel phones. They have incredible cameras, the best feeling of android, good IA functions, but I think pixels don’t age good, and they also are not power machines, tensor processors are just not so good (I had the g2)
Am Currently using Pixel 8 pro and am very satisfied with this phone . Google themselves to blame for not getting more market share because they don't sell in many countries. Have to buy parallel imported Japanese version here in New Zealand
A 350 dollar pixel has a hard time competing with a xiaomi, honor, realmente and sometimes even
Samsung
Pixels do NOT give me 3.5jack, SD card and non-corrupted display with no holes, notches e.t.c . And that's reason I will never buy one.
Sure, completely get that perspective. But what phone that offers all that is actually popular?
Same here. Just want a headphone jack and micro SD slot. Even the older Google Motorola phones had headphone jack and micro SD slot.
I absolutely can’t stand android the operating system. Feels a stretch to try to claim it is objectively better then iOS
The thing with Pixels is that they don't age very well and lose performance very quickly compared to other android phones. That may be a reason why people aren't buying them.
Edit: Source ruclips.net/video/PhFwDJCEhBg/видео.htmlm33s
Fair enough
The main reason they don't sell well is because you don't have to buy them if you want to be in the Android ecosystem. If you want to be in the iOS ecosystem, you have to buy an iPhone. Google has never truly supported the pixel with all of its might and power
They are also harder to find in my experience. Id have to import one, and why bother when I can get a samsung or oneplus with a warranty for less money
Only someone who hasn't owned a Pixel would say something like this
@@h.d.hExactly.
Just wait until the Tensor SOC is fully developed.
9:36 no this saying means the market wins. So customers as a whole. Not one customer.
I don't think this video raises some other main points:
- Pixel's performance is similar to or even less than many phones in the same or less price range, Ex. iQoo Neo 7, Poco F5, etc.
I want a good phone at a great price. Which is why I buy last years flagship Samsung used for half the price of its initial launch price.

You make some good points about why the iPhone sells so well, but they don't really apply to the Pixel. The reasons Pixels have so little market share right now are...
a) They aren't sold in most countries
b) In the few countries they are sold in outside of the US, they are more expensive and lack some of the software features
c) They're new!
Also, Dude……You dont have to put battle music in an info-tainment video 😂
it’s either Apple or Samsung for me. ive always used these two phones.
I got it!
google needs to make a $3000 smartphone
then make a regular priced pixel that looks similiar with similar branding
pixel pro phones become a luxury
I have a pixel 5 and I love it I'm confused as to why everybody is so concerned with Google having their data. what do you all think that Google is going to do with your data that they're not already doing or that they wouldn't already be able to do?
Facts hahaha
The only google products I use is google maps and android. Everything else I replace with Microsoft services.
S10e is so well optomized software wise!
this is less "don't give people what they want" & more "actually let know people that the thing they want exists & is available for purchase".
well, that & the fact that their selling point is "they're good enough but cheap" doesn't work if you only sell them in the markets where people buy either Luxury badges like Apple, or are power users like Samsung; also there's the little fallacy of Pixel not really offering what people are asking for with their current knowledge of what they like
I will sure give Pixel 8 a try to see how that works. 7 years of software support looks like a dream promise.
I'm from India and here is my views.
Normally due to the tropical weather here, battery life is always slightly less than what is projected.
1. Let's take the point that pixel takes very good photos. Agreed
2. Now we need a phone that can take atleast 300 photos which means the phone has to survive atleast 3-4 hrs with the camera app. Thats not even possible
3. At the end of the day I want my phone to stay alive to be able to pick calls. Coz that's what phones are primarily there for
Now you see my point.
Funny how i watch this vid using the Pixel 8 Pro 😂
Joking aside, one of the main reason i bought the Pixel is cuz of that stock Android experience, so far I've been loving it
google pixel 6a user here its an amazing phone for its price..love it
Pixels are great for non-normies as they"re the easiest to root & install a Custom ROM, it's the only phone brand supported by GrapheneOS & it's one of the few brands CalyxOS supports.
This is US-only based analysis. Very poor. Most of the world buys smartphones for cash without contracts. Chinese brands are insanely popular outside US. Pixels are simply diffucult to find outside US. They are sold with high mark up and with no warranty, but many people still want them.
Totally disagree
I hate the front cameras as well which is why i still use oneplus 7T Pro 6.7inchs of all oled screen
Most reputable company when it comes to shutting down their product. Google is so bad, just look at RUclips.
Almost every pixel has some kind of issue.
Price in Asian countries is so damn high.
The design is so lame.
They price it like a flagship but they don't look like a flagship.
If small pixels had uwb and an alternative to AirTags, I’d buy in a heartbeat
I didn't get one mainly because found out, when reading up on it, they slow down a lot with age.
Great video but I completely disagree with the title I appreciate pixel phones the way they are and I don't want them to change.
People buy premium(IPhone or Samsung) or budget (Xiaomi). And Pixel offers exactly what?
I have a 2019 LG phone. I wanted to upgrade last year but found LG no longer makes phones. I like LG's interface and would like to keep it, but that's not possible. I also like having removable batteries, as my charging port is broken, so I use an external charger and swap batteries out. I'll likely keep using this old thing until it's not viable anymore... which I suspect will be very soon. 4G just isn't cutting it, anymore.
Henry Ford didn’t say anything about faster horses. I feel it’s been wrongly attributed to him. Did you check?

What I personally want is one single feature on my phone. And considering it's the last phone to be made with it, I'm rocking my note 20 ultra until the day it dies. Then I'll buy a second one.
Google doesn't sell well, because you can get a phone 2 to 4 times cheaper, which is still of good quality and will do at least 80% of what the Google phone does. So, why spend more?
I myself was about to get Pixel, until I manually checked sample photos and seen so many defects in those, that I wonder who ever said Pixels have great cameras?
I ended up buying OnePlus and I'm very happy about it. No regrets.
Fair enough
If you have been around Android forums, you would know that the Google Pixel is a filled with software bugs, year after year.
Don't get it twisted, they sell a really good phone and premium at that, but they'll never catch up - again the market had long ago reached maturity therefore meaningful penetration would be minimally impactful at best.
nope their performance actually sucks
i don't know why you don't know this but literally any other mtk or snapdragon chip in the same price range is 50-100% better in terms of power efficiency and thermals meaning
it will perform worse over time in gaming which actually matters outside of benchmarks
+ it's overpriced to competitors like xiaomi, oneplus, realme, oppo, etc
The problem is the multiple good points about the pixel are not advertised and the things that high end users complain about most users don't need. The handling of phone calls on this phone is beyond anybody else's and the smoothness of integration with Android make it really nice.
The pictures are top-notch and in a Hardware sense, it's the most secure phone on the market ( ask the guy who heads Graphene OS if you don't believe me)
This company is not trying to trap me into their operating system and lets you change it if you wish to
T-Mobile never populatized the unlock phone . Just no "contracts" and even tben financed phones are just contracts basically
Google doesn't want pixels to have major market share, that isn't the point of them.
Google Nexus 5 was the best android I ever had. I loved it, every part of it. I would buy pixel if I lived in the us. Or if they had support on my country.
What about the Pixel Pros?
We have to ignore them because otherwise the video doesn't make any sense.
I want to buy a pixel but it’s not selling the latest model here
you just got a new subscriber
I always look at what’s the most powerful when it comes to the Smartphone’s Ram, CPU, Graphics Processor, and audio.
Calling a google pixel "affordable" is tone deaf af and affordable to only people making youtube money or in the top 50%.
This video would've been more fitting for the iPhone Mini series.
Google instead sells a 'marketing' of its features in the package of a smartphone.
if pixel came to Brazil it would receive massive popularity, we love android and most part of population
Why they just dont rename it to Gphone ?
I just bought the Pixel. It's not that good, many annoying features, but it is pretty good
Fair enough
I love the pixel.
@@LogicallyAnsweredExactly!!! love the fact you interact with your audience unlike other youtubers keep up the good work
I have a Google Pixel 6 Pro. It is by far the best smartphone I've ever owned and I have fully been converted into a Pixel fanboy. I won't be getting any other brand's smartphones ever again as long as Pixels are still around.
have a Pixel 7 wish I still had a working Sam S5.
Not available in your region... well samsung s23 ultra it is....
Pixel is not stock Android, it is using Google's exclusive Pixel UI which is only available on Pixel
If there was a headphone jack and replaceable battery they could be better. They could also sell tool kits and endorse right to repair.
As a pxiel User, pixel has a clean Android experience, it has Good Performance compared to its price
