Finding a good vegan cheese takes many tries and lots of testing out different brands. It's definitely not veganism's pride, but hey; let's remember that dairy cheese has had several hundred years (or thousands?) to develop, vegan cheese only a few decades xD

Actually no cheeses made of the milks of vegetables so rice milk , nut milk , soy milk have been around for as long as dairy cheeses and had plenty of time to develop their own identity go live in asian countries like China Korea or Japan and you'll come accross all manners of different types of tofus and nut cheeses . Yes, we have teeth. But you have to see how our jaws move. Our jaws move from side to side in a grinding motion, not open and close, like a dog or a cat. That's where that whole argument comes into play. Also we have digestive enzymes in our mouths which carnivores do not have. The most important thing about being vegan, to me, is making sure that the least amount of torture happens. These animals are sentient beings that think and feel. Also another thing is, is if we are carnivores, I'd love to see someone chase down an animal, catch it in their mouth, rip its throat out, and eat every single last part of that animal raw until it's gone. But, no human is capable of that.
Educate yourself because it really gets exhausting having to do so for you all. I highly recommend a book called the face on your plate which explains how the way we are built and specifically our teeth intestines etc are built as herbivores. Think of it this way- we wouldn't be able to maul an entire animal with flesh etc at least not without having some serious jaw issues and having to swallow whole parts- factory farming making it easier to consume these poor creatures doesn't make it right or make any sense in any way. It harms them, us, our environment- everything. People are angry and defensive toward vegans because inside they know they are doing what is best- you'd have to be very unintelligent or ignorant not to... they'll react better toward people who smoke and drink before they react well to vegans, it's insane and stupid.
brandon idgaf I don't think everything you said is true. I agree that we are omnivores, but humans are not *supposed* to eat dairy. In fact, humans used to be lactose intolerant. Most people in Asia still are. They don't drink milk but they still have healthy bones. In fact, they have fewer bone-related diseases (I'm sorry if that's not how you say it, English is only my third language) and less fractures than people in the Western world. The thing is that calcium can also be found in certain plants and that that kind of calcium is actually better for us cause it's paired with other minerals. The calcium in milk is actually kinda bad for us cause it's too much of it and milk barely contains any other minerals. Too much calcium actually causes the body to stop making calcitriol, which is the building block of calcium in the bones, so that means that too much calcium leads to more porous bones. (Do you guys don't have different names for the chemical element and the material your bones are made of? It's not entirely the same you know, the calcium you drink or eat doesn't just go to your bones and settles down there. It is used, together with vitamine D, to make calcitriol, which is the building block of the calcium in your bones.) I am not in any way vegan, but I know people generally eat too much meat, and that dairy is actually not that great for you. Even if I'd want to be vegan, I don't think I could, cause we barely have vegan options in our supermarkets.
They shouldn't have told them these were vegan cheeses, it seems their opinions were effected by their biases going into the experiment. They should have told the participants these were some sort of speciality cheeses from a certain region and seen their reactions so as to rule out placebo effect.
When presented with blended, strained, flavored and aged nuts, these people say "Ew, that looks gross. It looks processed and fake". But when presented with a cow's lactation that has been boiled, strained, disinfected, flavored, mixed with extracts from calves' guts and left to age, they say "Mmm, I love cheese. Looks so good". Vegan cheese is the only vegan substitute that can't beat the original as far as taste, texture, and smell. Vegan margarine beats butter, Plant based milk beats dairy milk, and vegan sour cream, whip cream and cream cheese beats the originals. Even nice cream or plant based ice creams can compete with the original. If they get vegan cheese done correctly then it's a wrap!

It's a matter of opinion I guess, because I don't think anything tastes better than fresh milk straight from a cow. I have tried a lot of alternatives and the cowmilk in a supermarket may not be the best, but I just like it more than the other alternatives. I don't really taste a difference in vegan margarine but I only use it for baking anyways
I didn't bother with vegan cheese for a while, assuming it would be weird but it tasted just like regular cheese to me. It just tasted a little healthier/less greasy. One could argue I forgot what cheese tastes like. Maybe but I don't think so. The texture was definitely fine.

I stopped eating dairy products so I use some of these cheeses. They are actually pretty good the daiya slices as a grilled cheese is one of my favorite. Also earth's balance shreds make good mac n cheese. This stuff is more for cooking in my opinion

I don't see the point in going through the trouble of making something so similar to the real thing, instead of just eating the real thing. Omnivores/carnivores have a shorter colon. Our teeth are more representative of a herbivore because we have incisors and small canines. Look at our ape descendants with their huge canines and also a herbivore (fruitivore).

I hate that some people think if you are vegan you HAVE to eat products like these. I personally have never had any cheese substitute that was worth buying. I totally agree that they should stop setting people up for disappointment by calling vegan dairy substitutes "cheese" and making you think there is a possibility it might actually taste like dairy cheese. ( Yes, for some people, products like that are a godsend. I'd say the majority of vegan converts don't enjoy these products) I personally eat a healthy and varied diet and I always feel satisfied, no fake cheese necessary.

I know. I think the problem with vegan cheese is that it's missing one of the most important components of dairy cheese. There's just no pus in vegan cheese. I mean sure you can pop your pimple on your vegan cheese but it's just not the same as cow pus. That's right, the U.S. government allows about 10 mls of pus per one gallon of milk and you guessed it. Cheese is made out of milk. From the insane amount of milking these cows go through, their udders get heavily infected and pus-filled. You're literally eating an infection. That's why they have to pump the cows so full of antibiotics. And let's not forget the motivation behind vegan products. To be able to milk a cow, you have to take the baby away right after it's born, and I mean right after. If it's a male calf, it gets chained up to keep it's head down in a dark crate, never seeing daylight for about 6 months. Then it gets slaughtered. That's veal.

Yes, we have teeth. But you have to see how our jaws move. Our jaws move from side to side in a grinding motion, not open and close, like a dog or a cat. That's where that whole argument comes into play. Also we have digestive enzymes in our mouths which carnivores do not have. The most important thing about being vegan, to me, is making sure that the least amount of torture happens. These animals are sentient beings that think and feel. Also another thing is, is if we are carnivores, I'd love to see someone chase down an animal, catch it in their mouth, rip its throat out, and eat every single last part of that animal raw until it's gone. But, no human is capable of that.
Educate yourself because it really gets exhausting having to do so for you all. I highly recommend a book called the face on your plate which explains how the way we are built and specifically our teeth intestines etc are built as herbivores. Think of it this way- we wouldn't be able to maul an entire animal with flesh etc at least not without having some serious jaw issues and having to swallow whole parts- factory farming making it easier to consume these poor creatures doesn't make it right or make any sense in any way. It harms them, us, our environment- everything. People are angry and defensive toward vegans because inside they know they are doing what is best- you'd have to be very unintelligent or ignorant not to... they'll react better toward people who smoke and drink before they react well to vegans, it's insane and stupid.

brandon idgaf I don't think everything you said is true. I agree that we are omnivores, but humans are not *supposed* to eat dairy. In fact, humans used to be lactose intolerant. Most people in Asia still are. They don't drink milk but they still have healthy bones. In fact, they have fewer bone-related diseases (I'm sorry if that's not how you say it, English is only my third language) and less fractures than people in the Western world.
The thing is that calcium can also be found in certain plants and that that kind of calcium is actually better for us cause it's paired with other minerals. The calcium in milk is actually kinda bad for us cause it's too much of it and milk barely contains any other minerals. Too much calcium actually causes the body to stop making calcitriol, which is the building block of calcium in the bones, so that means that too much calcium leads to more porous bones. (Do you guys don't have different names for the chemical element and the material your bones are made of? It's not entirely the same you know, the calcium you drink or eat doesn't just go to your bones and settles down there. It is used, together with vitamine D, to make calcitriol, which is the building block of the calcium in your bones.)
I am not in any way vegan, but I know people generally eat too much meat, and that dairy is actually not that great for you. Even if I'd want to be vegan, I don't think I could, cause we barely have vegan options in our supermarkets.
They shouldn't have told them these were vegan cheeses, it seems their opinions were effected by their biases going into the experiment. They should have told the participants these were some sort of speciality cheeses from a certain region and seen their reactions so as to rule out placebo effect.

Vegan cheese is the only vegan substitute that can't beat the original as far as taste, texture, and smell. Vegan margarine beats butter, Plant based milk beats dairy milk, and vegan sour cream, whip cream and cream cheese beats the originals. Even nice cream or plant based ice creams can compete with the original. If they get vegan cheese done correctly then it's a wrap!

Chao kind of tastes like nothing to me. It's good, but I like my cheese to be more pungent. I love Miyoko's, but it's really expensive.
It's a matter of opinion I guess, because I don't think anything tastes better than fresh milk straight from a cow. I have tried a lot of alternatives and the cowmilk in a supermarket may not be the best, but I just like it more than the other alternatives. I don't really taste a difference in vegan margarine but I only use it for baking anyways
I didn't bother with vegan cheese for a while, assuming it would be weird but it tasted just like regular cheese to me. It just tasted a little healthier/less greasy.

eating meat is fine but the animals are killed and raised in such horrible cruel conditions. I remember watching a video about the biggest meat producers in america and it showed how they take care of their animals, and it had to have been the worst thing i've ever seen

Mia Redmond Letting them live in the wild and killing them without them knowing or feeling pain is pretty humane, especially in comparison to what they do now. (Not that I'm a vegan, meat is fucking delicious and I eat it all the time, but saying that the way livestock is treated now is as good as any other way is kind of ignorant.)

Not all farms treat their livestock like that. For example, I get free ranging eggs.

Don't say sorry. I love being vegan. I don't miss meat or cheese at all. While I agree that vegan cheese does not taste the same or even that good, I must say that I thoroughly enjoy being vegan. Don't apologize.

No, there isn't pus in real cheese. Milk glands and pus don't function like that.
You are aware that mucus and pus are two different things? Also the only place you're going to find that in cheese are in American cheeses, that being cheeses made in America because of all the hormones and crap they inject the cows with to overproduce milk. The rest of the world doesn't do that.

I don't see the point in going through the trouble of making something so similar to the real thing, instead of just eating the real thing. Being vegan has no effect on how animals live, or stop living, so going vegan for that cause is just idiotic. Finally, I'd say that the whole ideology of 'vegan' is just people trying to find something to go against what's commonly done. Sure it's healthy or whatever, but don't force it down other people's throats saying stuff like "Omg, they kill animals".
Actually by going vegan meat demands go down, and even if it's a small amount, a collective society can make the difference.

Micky Byrne But why do we as omnivores need to limit from eating meat. In grade 4 or 5 you learn how prey have their eyes on the side so they can scan most of the surroundings while predators have front facing eyes. As a human I would hope your eyes are not on the sides of your head.
duelbladedragon We are decents of apes, their eyes are not at the side of their head. Also we have a longer intestinal track, which means meat will start rotting in our colon. Omnivores/carnivores have a shorter colon. Our teeth are more representative of a herbivore because we have incisors and small canines. Look at our ape descendants with their huge canines and also a herbivore (fruitivore).
True, the only way "Vegans" could help animals on a large scale is if EVERYONE became a Vegan. but Highly unlikely that everyone will become a vegan...
I hate that some people think if you are vegan you HAVE to eat products like these. I personally have never had any cheese substitute that was worth buying. I totally agree that they should stop setting people up for disappointment by calling vegan dairy substitutes "cheese" and making you think there is a possibility it might actually taste like dairy cheese. ( Yes, for some people, products like that are a godsend. I'd say the majority of vegan converts don't enjoy these products) I personally eat a healthy and varied diet and I always feel satisfied, no fake cheese necessary.

+Quionna Clark The thing is, it's like the racist whites that were negative toward civil rights fighters in the past. It's like the Catholic church being negative toward people like Galileo. When people are in the majority, and they have been for so long, then someone else comes along and actively goes against their beliefs and actions of the norm, or even speaks out against these beliefs and actions, they are going to catch some hate.
Fortunately though, like with both of those other examples, the more people that went against or lived outside of that narrative that were around, the more people got used to and accepted them.

I know. I think the problem with vegan cheese is that it's missing one of the most important components of dairy cheese. There's just no pus in vegan cheese. I mean sure you can pop your pimple on your vegan cheese but it's just not the same as cow pus. That's right, the U.S. government allows about 10 mls of pus per one gallon of milk and you guessed it. Cheese is made out of milk. From the insane amount of milking these cows go through, their udders get heavily infected and pus-filled. You're literally eating an infection. That's why they have to pump the cows so full of antibiotics. And let's not forget the motivation behind vegan products. To be able to milk a cow, you have to take the baby away right after it's born, and I mean right after. If it's a male calf, it gets chained up to keep it's head down in a dark crate, never seeing daylight for about 6 months. Then it gets slaughtered. That's veal.
I love cheese and milk. Dont care if theres pus in it.

+Vegan for Good 10 ml in one american gallon is 0.26% of the volume. its a tiny amount and every food has contaminants. someone who enjoys eating dairy products is not going to be converted to veganism after reading your comment. additionally, the treatment of animals varies widely from farm to farm.
