I have type 1 diabetes and began a vegan (plant based) diet almost three years ago. When I made the switch I was taking 28 units of basal insulin a day. I now take about 13 units of basal insulin a day. My a1c has also gone down by about two percentage points. Plants are awesome!
@@toshan9161 Thanks for asking. I just got blood work done this past week. While I don't feel that an A1C test is the best measure of health as it relates to diabetes, it is a test with which most people with diabetes are familiar. My A1C this time was 5.9%. My previous few A1Cs were also in the middle to upper 5% range. Time in range and standard deviation are more accurate measures of health as it relates to diabetes management. Using a CGM like the Dexcom G6 can provide you with data such as those listed above in the Clarity app. I find it quite fun to analyze all the different charts, graphs, and data points. Maybe that's just me... 🤣 My time in range for the last 90 days is 84% (between 70-180 mg/dL). My standard deviation for the past 90 days is 43 mg/dL. Well it isn't helping me thus far because I have no idea when to take insulin... take before I eat ill go low.. it goes up over hours... not sure how many hours cause I eat.. doesn't go up...I go to bed.. then my sugar is very high in the morning.
Eat more carbs! I don't believe it. I eat meat and vegetables only, use avocado and olive oils and my blood glucose and blood pressure are now normal. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and on my last doctor visit he said he is going to consider taking me off metformin and some of my other meds. I don't eat bread, pasta, rice, potatoes or bananas. From my experience eat more carbohydrates sounds dumb.
I dunno how I feel about all this... I went on a low carb diet, eat animal protein and went down from 22 units to 7 units with a janumit pill and mug of boiled cinnamon sticks. A lot of people decreased their insulin or medication intake without going vegan. Not saying I don’t think being vegan may be the right path, but I don’t see enough correlation between being vegan and “partially” reversing diabeties. However, keto diets, and eating protein has definitely increased my cholesterol which I expected to see.
All diabetics need to check their Blood Sugar frequently. As a Type 1 with a CGM, I check 20 times a day. I eat mostly non-starchy vegetables and Legumes.
I'm just been told I'm prediabetes. I don't eat meat or dairy. Mainly potatoes and non starchy veg. How can I stop it going into full blown diabtes. My A1c was 42.. should I get a glucose meter and monitor my blood sugar?
What makes you think it's a lot? They were talking about 26 units throughout an entire day, so actually, no, it's not a lot for a type 1. it's an incredibly low amount in relation to how many carbs the person was ingesting once they went whole-food plant-based.

You cannot reverse any type of disease with the carnivore diet! If you cannot stand a glucose tolerance test then you have not solved your diabetic problems. The definition of not being diabetic is to be able to eat bread and not send your glucose levels through the roof. Yes we're all aware that you're sugar levels in your blood will go higher when you eat. It's a part of digesting food. But they shouldn't go so high that they can send you into a coma.
You don't reverse it. If you can't eat a big high carb meal without any problens then you haven't reversed it. I eat 400-700 grams of carbs a day and my a1c on my last blood test was 4.9 and I have never had it higher than 5.2. Too much fat, especially saturated fat, is the root cause of T2diabetes. Too much fat and sugar is even worse, but the fat is the main cause.
