Thank you for this. I did not know that Gruyères was a hill town . . . nice! One of the true advantages that older Swiss towns/villages have over many other European countries is that they were not bombed flat in World War II. They may be (and are) restored and/or overdeveloped, but they have not been completely rebuilt, and are therefore much more authentic. Just remember to bring lots of cash . . . there are no real bargains to be found anywhere in Switzerland! 😎
Hi Patrick! Glad to hear that you enjoyed seeing this town. You are right, we are lucky to not have been involved into any wars for a long time. However, my town Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein were severly damaged in 1944, when the Allied Forces mistakenly confused these towns to be German. They have been restored in a way that you could not even notice it :) About the prices, yeah bargaining is not possible and cheap bargains are likely not to be found in touristy hotspots. But there are many attractions that are cheap or even free in Switzerland, which I showed in my other videos.

Also, let's be honest and admit that, for tourists, Switzerland is very nice, but also very expensive, even when compared to their well-off European neighbors. In US dollar terms you would need at least $250 to $300 a day to really be comfortable . . . but for that money you get to visit one of the most beautiful places in the world! 😎

Hi Dina. Have you yet been to Gruyères? Sounds like you might have. I like the HR Giger museum a lot too. His art is very unique. He was truly a genious. You should visit the bar too; they also offer mocktails. When being in Gruyères, I think trying cheese fondue is mandatory. You can also buy packs instead of taking a fondue at the restaurant. The pack allows you to home cook it :)

Having fondue in Gruyere Castle with a view of the village below with a glass or two of white wine while conversing with friends was one of the most memorable meals of my life. But, this was in 1982, so, I’m not sure if the castle yet offers such a meal option.
To be honest, I wasn't blown away by the Gruyere, but it is still lovely place to visit. The architecture is so charming. I love Grueyere cheese, but I remember the factory to be tad bit boring. Probably because we arrived there after the visit of Maison Cailler which set the expectations very high. :) I was so surprised by finding the HR Giger museum there. It somehow doesn't fit to the whole atmosphere of the town. Wonderful presentation of Gruyere Djemo!
Finally I can manage to go back to Switzerland and my first trip will be to Gruyeres which I only saw while marching in the valley as a soldier some 40 years ago.
I love this town. I am in CH once or twice a year for work and have been since 1999. Often I will arrive on a Sunday and be staying in the region near Biel so I will take any new people I have with me for an afternoon at the chocolate factory in Broc as well as this town.
Worth noting for Visitors from overseas .... the Swiss don't generally eat Fondue in the summertime. They chuckle when we foreigners order it outside of the cooler months.
I am not so sure about this. We Swiss people eat fondue even on warm days, I just saw many of them last weekend in Valais. Its commen when we go visiting some towns. Myself I do the same✌🏼 I though would agree that having a fondue is more appropriate in places like Gruyères or Valais/Wallis in Summer than in Zurich. In cities like Zurich, I agree, people find it rather funny

Hi. Thanks for watching! You may get out at Bulle and then I think there is a bus. I usually check public transport on Sbb.ch or Google Maps. The cheese factory is just by the town. You may walk downhill from Gruyères, takes 7-10 min only.

Hi Chris. Yes, Switzerland is very known for mountain biking. I guess you might then also be familiar with "Portes du Soleil"? It's a skiing restort that operates as a mountain bikers Mekka during Summer. Apparently, it's one of the very best for mountain biking.

I LOVED Gruyères!! Absolutely gorgeous old town and chateau! I loved the fondue, the beautiful architecture, the Gruyère cheese factory, Maison de Cailler, and the stunningly beautiful countryside. I was blown away by the beauty of Switzerland and the charm of the little villages and old towns. You are so blessed to live there!! Gtuyeres is a stunning Medieval town with stunning views, and I love their cheese! Interesting that a Tibetan Museum would be there, and the Chateau de Gruyeres kooks fabulous. We were going to visit one day, after visiting in Bern, but weather was wet and a bit cool for the season, so we moved onto Austria day early, but it was wet and cool 8n Salzburg, too. I hope to come back and see G ruyeres on another visit, and I do enjoy their cheese, albeit a little harder to find in the USA, and not cheap - but oh do good!! Thanks for sharing. Our flight home from switzerland isnt until the night time, which gives us a whole extra day to explore. After watching your video about the beautiful villages/towns and having a partner who loves castles, cheese and chocolate, we've decided to take a day trip to gruyeres. Gtuyeres is a stunning Medieval town with stunning views, and I love their cheese! Interesting that a Tibetan Museum would be there, and the Chateau de Gruyeres kooks fabulous. We were going to visit one day, after visiting in Bern, but weather was wet and a bit cool for the season, so we moved onto Austria day early, but it was wet and cool 8n Salzburg, too. I hope to come back and see G ruyeres on another visit, and I do enjoy their cheese, albeit a little harder to find in the USA, and not cheap - but oh do good!! Thanks for sharing. Btw, what is your first name? I have seen many of your videos and know your channel name, butvI do not know if you shared your first name. I really do love your videos!

I just want to thank you for your videos! We'll be in the interlaken area as of next sunday for a week. Our flight home from switzerland isnt until the night time, which gives us a whole extra day to explore. After watching your video about the beautiful villages/towns and having a partner who loves castles, cheese and chocolate, we've decided to take a day trip to gruyeres. We would never have though to do this if it wasnt for your videos! ☺️
