Good catch of the hexagonal Sun Simulator at 23 seconds. Seems like both your camera lens and windscreen were dirty, spoiling the video somewhat. You'll really never get a good picture from behind a windscreen, even if clean. Coromandel Peninsula has wonderful scenery and tourists should all go there instead of dubious Rotorua

I went up there 18 months ago in my Renault camper van. Nice destination, but a bit tricky, the road, esp when you meet other traffic. Fortunately for me, there was not too much. By the way, on your way back down, Pauanui, at the south end of the beach, isa good spot. I think u can stay 2 nights free, toilet etc there, and a great walking track.

Thanks Pete yes it is a beautiful spot, but agree with you regarding meeting other travellers along the way. We haven't been to Pauanui so we must check it out, thanks for the tip.

Beautiful scenery up there. Kind of a day trip destination though I guess?

You can stay up there, we passed 3 DOC camps along the way, and one camp had a caravan parked up, however it would be a great day out with a picnic lunch.

It is definitely a beautiful area, and taking a caravan up there is fine at the right time of the year as long as you don't meet someone coming the other way on the narrow parts of the road.

What a beautiful place. A bit tricky to navigate in a large caravan or coach camper but that is why it remains unspoiled - would be a lovely day trip for fishing, a picnic lunch, and a swim 🙂

Yes I can say it felt a bit hairy in places, but there are many places to pull over and let others pass. However you would have to be careful towing a caravan/travel trailer. In saying that, we did see a caravan and tow vehicle up at one of the camps, not much traffic at the end of the day as most people have finished their daytrip, so its the best time to then travel up that road.
