Mechanically it is such an amateur and dense move to keep your chin up in combat sports but the people with longer limbs tend to rely on it cuz they lean backwards away from punches with arms extended but when people figure it out you see those kinds of fighters crumble. Anderson Silva, Volkanovski, Adesanya, and now Max Holloway have gotten knocked out or rocked from having their chin in a compromised position You can try it on your own self rn. Tuck your chin and see if your head moves side to side as easily if you push against it compared to if you keep your chin up. Chin up allows for your head to torque more easily aka concussion and KO.
Anyway ... still looked like a blackberry when he fought Strickland. And Strickland is not really a hard puncher. He says that his own punch are weak unless in that fight with Dricus learned something new

He lost rounds 1 and 2 and arguably only won 3, so I wouldn't say he looked fantastic. He got rocked in round 3 and then again in round 4 which made him run and give his back to Du Plessis.
