got mine a couple a days ago. Love the build quality, hate the sound (like on all laptops), a lot of initial updates, fantastic keyboard, way to many built in HP app's and some are in conflict with windows. But for a 14" laptop that is built to last: Just bought it a $200 leather case; Nuff said.
Love the Elitebook series :-) I bought the old 2750p for less than a 100$, upgraded to 8 gigs of RAM and I put the 240 Gb SSD in it. Works like a charm, I'm typing this on it.
These reviews are kind of lazy and useless and nothing more than a sales pitch. The specs can be found online and pretty much every manufacturer has a comparable line of laptops. It doesn't say anything about long-term use and user experience. For example, I have an HP elitebook but it has a crappy trackpad driver that often breaks scrolling and I have to restart it daily to make it work. HP haven't fixed it in years. What good does it do when it's a beautiful machine with good specs but it's perpetually broken in one way or another. Reviews should focus on things like that. Manufacturers just like to advertise specs because it gets them sales but have cut corners in less obvious ways and just don't care to fix issues because they have your money. It's the same thing with smartphones.
How do you expect a long term review when is a new product? I have use this model for 1.5 yrs and I use it about 8 hrs 5 days a week. Works amazing. My previous model was an elitebook back from 2008. I used for 10 yrs and still no complains. I work in IT and I teach on line. Hope this personal experience helps you.
I have something like that on a HP Elite X2 1012 G1 2-in-1. When upgrading windows 10 the trackpad didn't work anymore. to fix it, I had to disable the automatic driver from ALP, via the Windows utility, it's called 'wushowhide' and it allows you to block an automatic update. The result is windows uses default drivers that work just fine.
@kaasis85 I (and my company) find them useful for different reasons. Your opinion isn't the only one, nor does it matter. FWIW, there's probably an open source driver for your trackpad issue that fixed your issue. Try using Linux.

I agree with you - HP has been blowing it up with their new laptops. I recently purchased an HP ZBook 14u G5. It’s basically the same chassis, keyboard, etc. as the 840 G5. I think that the build quality is on par with MacBook Pros plus the HP EliteBooks and ZBooks are user-serviceable.
The main different that I'm aware of is that the Z Book has discrete graphics as well as integrated graphics. That's why I chose it over the other options. I think that the screen is better on the Z Book as well, but I'm not sure.

Fan is indeed NOT blowing hot air in your right hand when you're resting it next to the laptop but INSTEAD blowing it on your left hand, or anything else you might have next to the laptop.. don't know why they didn't just integrate the cooling into the hinge of the laptop.. keyboard IS backlit BUT you have to manually activate the backlight I'm guessing? I also only see one button for it so I'm guessing it's similar to the G1 I have where you have 3 states (full brightness, half brightness and off), which is really annoying to cycle through all the time I honestly don't know how they haven't added a light sensor to make the process automatic yet.. actually is there a single PC laptop that HAS an automatic backlight?
I have HP 840 G5 with HP Sure View and it's not so great. If you are traveling a lot and you need the privacy filter then it's fine. In case you use the laptop in the office or at home without the privacy filter then the better option is the middle range display with 400 cd/m2. When you have the display with HP Sure View and it's OFF then the image is not so great. The backlight is blocked and is changing depends on the angle. It's annoying. THen the only option is to use an external monitor. In my opinion, it's good to have HP Sure View ONLY if you really need the privacy filter on a daily bases!
