I am in awe. Thank you! I've been in VR Blender before, but I was walking with my jointed meat columns like a sucker. I'm designing a computer lab for my hackerspace and I was painstakingly lining up the virtual walls with the physical walls(and praying that I didn't bump scale out of 1:1).
Same here - and it gives Blender a huge advantage over the competition for 3D modeling and rendering. A lot to learn. If you're using SteamVR and VIVE, is the Oculus setup applicable?
This was excellent! Thank you, I tried it out straight away with my quest 1. I've often wanted to see my models larger than life in VR! Looking forward to the next one!
I just love knowing the fact I can inside a 3D model. I can't get over it and I just don't what to do with knowledge LOL. I love exploring and checking out models
Thank you so much for this video. I remember getting the oculus 2 and watching this video and got so excited then I realized it PC only. I finally got a PC to use with blender and remembered this video about an hour ago. I followed the steps and it worked! A few minor revisions have been made but the setup process and features are the same. So exciting! Thank you for making a clear and accurate tutorial
OMG Jonathan you are freaking awesome. Thank you so much for sharing this update. I actually tried VR editing in UE4 a few years back but obviously Epic has a higher budget than Blender lol so it's not ever expected to see such fast dev with Blender but seeing this now is still mind blowing. 100% subbed and notifications ON!!! LEGEND.
I personally use a dedicated router and virtual desktop questpro to my PC VR set up, but I had an issue with my steam blender installation and I just haven't ever gotten around to setting this up so thank you for the content.
Virtual desktop might be a good alternative to doing wired link for this for quest 2 over doing a cable or air link. Air link was a horrible experience for me. I ended up getting virtual desktop and use that over air link for all my steam vr games including doom VR and chillout VR and even Skyrim VR I'd imagine the steam vr version would work well with this
hey man nice tutorial but I'm too late...I mean steam settings are changed since the last update... and I cant find the settings about developer mode... can you update this tutorial please?
I'm a trucker so I'm still playing catch up and trying to set up a side gig as a freelancer, but I'm getting there and you're content is helping me the that so thanks a ton, or 52 😎
Airlink is perfectly smooth if set up properly. I have a dedicated wifi 6 router 5 feet from my play space and it actually runs better then a link cable.
Thank you for the video! Such a nice feeling to walk around the stuff I created. I also modeled my room some time ago so I was walking through it, but I need to figure out the scaling cause it felt kinda weird.
what about making a VR movie for quest 2 in blender? is that possible? one where you just sit still and stuff goes on around you but if you turn your head the camera turns with it?
Anyone know if this is possible some how without being connected to PC? Or any programs like blender that you use within the vr headset? I'm unable to connect to PC due to low graphics card.
Hello, I am trying the same thing in blender, but I cannot climb the stairs of the castle like you, there is no gravity when jumping from the castle, how can I do this?
ok im confused, ive done every step youve done but with the vr tab on the right, you have way more options than i do, i dont even have the option to select controllers, i can only turn positional tracking on and off, what am i doing wrong?
Out of interest, we have an older vive and are trying the VR with Blender 3.5, I can go into the view and move around fine but is there a way to be able to select things and move them around? I can't seem to be able to do it, only move the camera and teleport around. I want to be able to have 1 control to pick up, and another to just click on it.
great. but would it be possible to use controllers to teleport in the VR environment? why should one use keyboard if there are 2 controllers? explain please
Hello, I have a problem with my VR Headset view, in fact I have a static view of the blender world but I can't feel the movement of the head. I can only move using the controller sticks...how can I solve it? Thanks
I don't get how to do my scale. Currently it's set to imperial units with a unit scale of 13.2... I don't remember setting this up, I only remember trying to make this building scale with my architectural plans. I've selected my camera as object likee instructed in the video, but I don't know what to put in my scale field. Is it just 1/13.2?
I tried following the instructions, and got as far as starting VR in Blender. Unfortunately, I might have missed something. All I see is a pink void and no view of the Blender work space or the cube object. I made sure all the settings were correct, as indicated by your video. Anyone else? I also noticed I don't have as many view options in the right hand sidebar. Just "floor" and "annotations".
Excellent vídeo! Is there a way to export scenes and models from Blender and navigate it only using my Oculus Quest 2? I want to model my house and walk around without using Blender.
im trying this with an HTC Vive (OG model) and the controllers do not work to allow me to change the position of my camera in the world, so the only way i can move around is to move the camera using the object inspector tool and mess with the x/y/z positional and rotational tools. Any tips / ideas to get the OG vive controllers to work to move around the scene?
this is still just for scene viewing, right? no vertex/plane/edge manipulation or anything the way that mauri blenderxr used to work before it got discontinued?
Hi! I have a quest 2 but I have to use the controllers to select and navigate menues, what software are you using to track your hands and select stuff with oyur fingers without controllers?
If they could copy PS4s dreams VR control set up, that would be awesome. I haven't experienced anything like it yet on PC, but I would love to. I started on dreams and then started rendering in blender, and its just not as satisfying. The spacemouse helps, but its just harder overall. in dreams even with the old ps move controls, i have 12 buttons on the controllers, and the way they have the buttons mapped with combinations and physical movements, once you learn it you can make things so fast, with ease and it just flows. Im a fan of blender, its fun too, but its not as entertaining as the other.
Could camera (and maybe controllers) have multi axis translation and rotation recorded as a means of partial mo-cap? Then have some AI app with some supervision generate the rest of the mo-cap data?
I'm using a cabled link and I'm getting some terrible framerates... any ideas on how to trouble shoot this? EDIT: turns out I was just running a way too big blender file!
"I hope you understand how incredible that is" Yep, I do. I've been playing around with this for the last few days, thank you very much for your help. But in walk mode, I seem to be floating, yet when you went up the stairs it seemed more like a game mode where it was following the actual ground as you moved forward. Is that what was happening? I do have gravity turned on in settings. Anyway I will play around more. Hugely cool, it really is amazing to be inside your own model.
@@FuriousImp Nope, no idea. I can get the WASD movement, but there's no collision or actual walking on surfaces. But I gave up and loaded my scene into Unreal Engine where it works like a dream with so much more.
Im using the Oculus Quest 2 and i recognized in the oculus app an error, that the oculus is not compatiple - nevertheless is says connected. As soon as I am trying to start the vr session in blender - blender freezes and crashes after some time :( any tips woud be helpful
Hey! Thanks for the video. Its amazing! Right now im moddeling a little "architecture" modell and i want to walk trought it with an oculus quest headset. Can this work with Blender on Mac? I don’t even own a VR headset, but have been thinking about getting one and this would be an awesome use for it. Using the M1Pro MacBook Pro.
I've been waiting for this! So anyone know the key differences between this method and the Mauri VR app for Blender? (How locomotion differ, which is easier, quicker or more intuitive for modeling, etc)
Hey Brett, the fundamental key difference is that mauri has stopped all development of their app =(. Also, this is only the first steps of blenders VR journey so you still cant make things around and scultp.
Can you also measure objects in Blender under VR? That's why I tomograph objects and would like to be able to measure them in VR instead of just on the computer.
love your videos - but unable to complete this - do I need an Oculus developer account ? - am not getting the same screens ( and choices ) as you when I open up my settings.

I'm so glad I can help Mackie
I wonder if blender will ever give us the ability to model/sculpt in vr like Adobe medium
This is confirmed.

AirLink works very well and smooth as long as you have wifi 6 router. Much nicer to be able to move around without a wire.
