  • We invite you to watch a film in which we discover the secrets of KL Auschwitz III - Monowitz, a less known but key sub-camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. In this episode, we explore the history and functions of Monowitz, who played an important role in the structure of the camp.
About the Auschwitz III subcamp - Monowitz:
KL Auschwitz III - Monowitz, also known as Monowitz, was one of the larger subcamps of the Auschwitz-Birkenau system. Located in the Brzezinka area, Monowitz served as an industrial center and was a place of forced labor for prisoners. The film presents details about everyday life in Monowitz, its industrial activities, working conditions and its importance within the entire camp.
The film is part of the project "Secrets of the camp - the unknown history of KL Auschwitz-Birkenau", co-financed by the National Center for Culture as part of the Culture online program. The foundation was established in 2013 and its goal is to save things, heritage and artifacts related to the former German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and its subcamps, which are currently in private hands.
The main area of activity of the entire system of camps and all subcamps of KL Auschwitz-Birkenau was much more extensive than today's area of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Many of these memorabilia are still beyond any conservator's control and require immediate help. To achieve this goal and save as much as possible for future generations, the Foundation aims to collect funds for their conservation, protection and making them available to the general public.
