- The forecast was good for the day (Friday the 13th) and I booked the day off from work to make the most of what could be the last decent thermal soaring day of the season. Some on the grid had big plans for distance flights but I didn't have anything particularly in mind. As the conditions looked good to the north, and there was a gentle northerly breeze) I decided to head upwind to Didcot after the release from aerotow. I quickly connected with a thermal - marked by another glider and a pair of squabbling buzzards (one of which had to sharply dodge out of my way when I started overtaking it). It was easy progroess up to Didcot and I could have gone much further north if I'd chosen to. The route south progressed quickly and as I turned back to Lasham at Petersfield I could have easily made it to the coast as there were plenty of cumulus clouds marking the lift - even out to sea. The GoPro battery went flat, sadly, just before I joined the circuit back at Lasham. I need to work out how to power it externally.
