    Thanks for the safety reminder and for the encouraging words. I”ll start sometime next week with pfg in New Orleans. I already did all the screening procedures, now waiting on the results to set up the start day. I , just like you, quit my 19 year old job to become a truck driver. Sometimes my doubts creep in, but I remind myself that the last job I had was also very physical(Pipefitter) and I did it for a long time. I got this😅

    Can you explain the difference between regular PFG and customized? What are the pros and cons of either. I only have customized in my area and it seems like it’s a form of salary or daily pay? Instead of getting paid per case

    I applied for PFG here in Tampa Florida they said i need 1 year of experience. I just recently graduated cdl school last month and Pepsi hired me as a delivery driver fresh out of CDL SCHOOL . Driving for pepsi as a delivery driver is hard work and you really gotta be in good shape . We work 5:30am to 7pm 5 days a week 60 hours plus . We are on commission pay and case pay . Which means you can work 100 hours but you will only be paid by commission and case .
    Hopefully sysco,PFG,US FOODS ,Cheney brothers ,domino’s,Martin brower gives me a call here in Tampa Florida

      Not sure how close QCD
      Gordon food service
      And us foods is but choose one of those. The stops /pallets aren't as horrendous compared to Sysco pFG etc.

    • @sad2540
      @sad2540 Год назад

      You’re going to have to research the companies in YOUR specific area because different areas wildly change. No two Syscos or USFoods etc are the same. Especially in Florida I have heard Sysco is awful for pay & benefits and it’s not union. There’s a company called Cheney brothers in Florida that I have heard very good things about.
      A major piece of advice: before you decide to start at a company figure out which company has the largest market share in that state. Usually the bigger company will have better pay but also more difficult work. Pepsi / Coke are notorious for screwing over drivers

    Had to ask brotha. I’m a bigger guy around 300lbs. I can move around perfectly fine and all that but is it something that I could prob handle? Like the physical work loud? Or is it very hard work oriented?

    • @t1truckin
      @t1truckin  2 года назад +1

      It's very physically demanding work, from climbing into the trailer from the back or sides, to moving boxes and boxes of food. Its great to get into better shape and feel better, but not gonna lie, it does wear you out sometimes lol

  • @drock5108
    @drock5108 2 года назад

    Just started Sysco orientation yesterday! Can't wait till training is over!!! They got us doin a thrive course and I swear it's drawing me!!! Lol 50 videos and a test for each of em it feel like! Solid place to be but ya u gotta be in shape for this! I got myself into shape for this! I was 250 lbs a yr ago and now I'm down to 185 and I am also diabetic and I was on insulin but I started taking trulicity and jardiance and my A1C is 7.2 now from almost 11 a yr ago so I came here to keep myself in shape! I have heard all the good stories and bad stories about food service so far! Everyone who is with it talks good but the moment they leave it talk bad about it ,most of the time because they just couldn't hang with it! I did roofing for 25 yrs and if you want to compare which job is harder I would Emagine roofing is but a lot of time off! As where this industry doesn't stop and is more demanding of your time. I know it's also hard but compare to being on a 2 and a half story re deck, in the middle of summer with no breeze and all sun I would pick food service all day!!! Roofing ain't nothing to play with. So im in pretty good shape so I think this won't be too much of a challenge for me. My concerns are driving in winter where it's white out conditions with black ice everywhere!!! Im new to this also, just got my cdl A in May and Sysco is my first job. But ya I think you hit the nail right on the head with everything you said! Be ready and lock your doors when your out of sight! Even if it's for a minute!

    • @t1truckin
      @t1truckin  2 года назад

      Absolutely! Roofing definitely would be another one of those harder jobs, but hey, someone's gotta do it! Good luck with training!

    I'm fresh out of CDL school and looking into PFG in Omaha. I don't know where you work out of but are you aware of that location and if it's good place to start? Also do you have an estimate on what a first year driver would make?

    • @t1truckin
      @t1truckin  2 года назад

      I've talked with the Omaha PFG before, I go into that area from Springfield as well, they are a Reinhart location and seem pretty chill. I'm not 100% on what they make over there, but if I were to guess it couldn't be lower than $60k a year.

    What’s the hourly pay? Do they hire recent grads bro?

    • @t1truckin
      @t1truckin  2 года назад +1

      We don't go on hourly pay, it's case pay, mileage, and stop. So each route is different.
      My DC does have a trainer program as long as there are trainers available, so they do hire recent grads! Call yours to make sure! Usually job postings will say CDL grads welcome!

      @@t1truckin possibly both but mostly want to know about the work it takes

    • @t1truckin
      @t1truckin  2 года назад +1

      The interview process is pretty easy, typical interview questions, safety related topics for truck driving, and stuff like that, you'll also have a road test where you'll go out with a supervisor in a truck and drive for about 30 minutes to an hour, they just want to see you know how to control the truck.
      The shuttle Job itself shouldn't be too bad. You're not moving cases, just moving trailers. Some shuttles are with doubles and some with 48s. You'll take a loaded trailer from your warehouse to a satellite location, drop and hook and bring an empty back to your yard. Usually done overnight, I think ours leave around 11-midnight depending on where they are going.
