Whoever sees this comment, do not worry at all!! I have the worst anxiety/panic disorder and I was freaked out. Doesn’t matter how worked up you are or think you are. You don’t remember a thing. You can’t even fight it. You don’t even know it’s happening. You just wake up in recovery. Please don’t work yourself up when it’s not necessary at all. Trust me

I have to have surgery on my arm in two weeks. Going under has been a fear of mine since I was a kid. I too have panic and anxiety disorder and all I do everyday is worry and fight off panic attacks. I don't want to wake up in the middle of it and be trapped because I've had sleep paralysis and it's terrifying and that was only for a few seconds. I cant imagine for an hour. So many fears. ugh. I'm trying my best to stay positive.

Had a surgery two weeks ago to remove my appendix, my biggest fear for the entire thing was having to postpone my exams, I'm grateful for living in Norway, after a week's stay, an operation and lots of medicine, the total bill stood at 0. Walked out of the hospital, and no costs were discussed ever.
I was not afraid at all to go under anaesthesia, and my expectations were correct. I remember when they injected it, no counting was done but I peacefully fell "asleep" and it felt like I woke instantly, on the bed, on my way to the wake up room. Everything was fine, I had to puke after the anesthesia, but otherwise the experience was pleasing.

Whoever sees this, I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out today and I was really anxious before hand about the anesthesia. I don’t like the idea of being forced to sleep. It was also my first time having anesthesia. Overall it went really well and it wasn’t bad at all. You’ll be fine! Don’t worry about it, I know it’s hard but you’ve got this! Once they administered the anesthesia it took me about 1 and a half minutes to fall asleep, it works in a interesting way, first everything is normal then I started to get a little bit of blurry vision, but your body feels calm. Next thing you know you wake up and it’s all over. (Other than the aftereffects which for me personally was just like being high) I got general anesthesia btw

Back in 2017 when I went to the hospital and turned out I needed my gallbladder removed I was terrified of the thought of going under. It had been years since my last surgery at the time so the thought of surgery and going to sleep scared me. But my gallbladder surgery went very well. I also have a shunt. During my gallbladder surgery somehow I ended up also needing a brand new shunt which is a long story. My shunt ended up either not working or perhaps leaking fluid so I during those times I went from back to the hospital to back home. I ended up having a total of 5 surgeries. Not in one day though. I was in very good hands. I loved my doctors and the nurses I had were fantastic. All surgeries went just fine. 👍🏽

Many patients express anxiety over this so you're not alone! In the 40 years we've been practicing we have never had a serious complication caused by anesthesia. Part of the reason for that is because cosmetic surgical procedures are elective. Those at a higher risk for complications regarding anesthesia will have prior health issues and if our doctors determine you're not healthy enough to operate on, they won't. We take our commitment to our patients' health seriously and take extraordinary precautions to ensure their safety. As long as you are completely open and honest with your surgeon and the staff about your health history, you will be taken care of.

Today is November 2, 2021. I had my first surgery on Monday, November 3, 2021. It was my first time being "put under." I was a bit anxious before. They got me to my prep room, hooked me up on the IV, and began to do paperwork. The time came for the anesthesiologist to come and administer the "happy juice." He began asking me questions and I thought he hadn't given me the drug yet. I remember answering the first question, then waking up in the recovery room asking for Darth Vader - "where is Darth Vader?" LOLOL! I would do it all again, for something that I needed to be put to sleep for.

My dad went under Anesthesia for a back operation. He was absolutely fine and he had to go to the hospital on his own and we were all worried but he was totally fine. The first thing he said when he rang us as he was being wheeled out was “I’m iron man tha knows” and if anybody has seen the typical Yorkshire video on RUclips that will make you laugh we was in hysterics and relief that all went well. Here I am with my anxiety disorder panicking about an impacted canine surgery on both sides and it’s literally 3 months away! I’m so scared of being under the anaesthetic. I’m only 17 and I’ve never had anything like this. I have an extreme fear of hospitals even being in the car park makes me panic. I think the worst is going to happen with everything. I just hope and pray that all will be okay and reading everyone’s stories is the only comfort for me. And I hope sharing the story of my 52 year old dad comforts you all too!

Now I totally see why people are scared of going under and being out of control. I had a cyst behind my ear, and the doctor arranged for me to have surgery and go under anesthesia to remove it, even though looking back, I never really wanted to have surgery nor did I need it, he kind of just persuaded me to do so since my insurance would cover it. Before surgery I was told they would make the incision behind the ear to prevent scarring ofcourse, but when I woke up the doctor informed me he decided to make the incision from the front and cut off nearly half of my earlobe in the process; mind you he did this without my permission while I was unconscious with no control over the situation, and now I'm stuck with half an earlobe, and a nasty scar to go with it. I've never felt so used and disrespected in my entire life. So be careful people and always question everything that happens in a hospital, dont let them take advantage of you for profiting reasons and scar your body in the process

As someone who was absolutely terrified of general anesthesia before my first ever surgery (rhinoplasty), I can now confidently say 100% it will be the most pleasant part of your surgery. I didn’t even notice how I fell asleep and when they woke me up already I was super pissed because I wanted some more of that good sleep 😂 No dreams, nothing just peaceful, great sleep. The only thing that brought some discomfort was the recovery and it wasn’t even as close as bad as I imagined thanks to the painkillers. Honestly, the most unpleasant part was them drawing my blood for the tests before the surgery😂Bottom line is, it will be just fine and over before you know it:) Just be sure to let your doctor/anesthesiologist know you are feeling anxious so they can give you some sadating medication beforehand, just so you don’t have to await for the surgery in anxiety:)
