Hands down the best how to video I have seen, regarding computer teardown and repair. I am not sure if the fix will work in my case as I have not gotten round to trying that out yet, but the detailed steps, narration, shooting, everything is meticously done. Kudos and thanks for going the extra mile.

Fantastic work and vid, thanks! I have an old hp dv6700 and had no idea why the screen doesn't work. I didn't use that lap for few years. Today I decided to try to fix it and found your tutorial. Mesmerizing to watch and follow! I used hairdryer, the screen works now! It turned out my old hp runs windows vista, I didn't even remember that awkward os :-)

I am slowly working my way through this and am really impressed with the way you explain things. I get frustrated with the videos that some people make with bad music and no talking. One question before I do the heat... should I add some flux under the GPU before I heat it?

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  Год назад

Thank you for your feedback! If you'd like to support the channel, you can choose to like, subscribe, or do both!
Regarding your question, it is important NOT to add any flux under the BGA unless you have an ultrasonic washer and 6L of isopropyl alcohol. If you add flux, it will lower the temperature of the solder balls and facilitate the reflow process. However, if you don't properly wash off the flux under the GPU with an ultrasonic washer for 10 minutes at 60°C using the appropriate liquid, the flux can cause the solder balls to detach when using the laptop after a few days.
If you're using a hairdryer, ensure it's set to the maximum heat and keep it approximately 1 inch away from the CHIP. Heat the board for about 10-15 minutes. After heating, make sure not to cool down the board by blowing air or touching it for at least 20 minutes.
I hope this clarifies the information for you!
Should you have any further questions or requests in the future, please don't hesitate to ask me.

I didn't do the reflow part, but it was very useful to know how to get to the fan and clean it. If necessary I don't know, but it was very interesting for sure. It looks like the main issue for my laptop was removing one of the two rams and then it worked. Thanks mate!

      1,5 mm
*jeśli możesz umieścić miedzianą podkładkę, wytrzyma długo, miedziana podkładka 0,3 mm,
      nakładanie miedzianej podkładki:
Zdobądź miedzianą podkładkę 0,3 mm: amzn.to/3bXjvI7
      zdobądź dobrą pastę: amzn.to/3NVYjja
      zdobądź podkładkę 1mm: amzn.to/3aEWJo5
#Umieść kroplę pasty na GPU i umieść miedzianą podkładkę na górze GPU i umieść 1mm podkładkę termiczną po drugiej stronie miedzianej podkładki.
      powodzenia

regarding your question: if you pay attention after removing the motherboard i have place the aluminum tape around and i have explained that you need to heat up the GPU with heat gun for 5min.
      but here i explain again:
once you remove the motherboard, you need to isolate the GPU with aluminum tape (as shown in the video)
2nd you need to use a heat gun or a hair dryer at max heat and medium air, and keep it over the GPU with a 1" distance and keep it straight over for 5-8min
after that MAKE SURE you don't touch the motherboard for 15min. let it cool down on its own.
once is finished then repaste and you done.

regarding your question: its a very common issue, and i have covered on how to repair the issue in this video, the problem its on your GPU that is over heated and the solder joints are cracked, you will need to remove the entire motherboard (as shown in video) and place it on wood table and with no fan or any air blowing into it, and use a hair dryer at its max heat and keep it straight over the GPU with 1" height distance and for 5min and then let it cool down at room temp, and make sure you use a good thermal paste that is in video description.

this will solder back the GPU to the board. in this video you can see a crack on solder ball, when you heat it up it will melt back and make a connection.
      imgur.com/a/rGim5BR
the hard drive has nothing to do with the laptop powering on and displaying a HP logo and saying there is no OS.
you can remove the hard drive of any laptop and you can power on the laptop and it will display logo and a text saying there is not operating system(boot device).
if your hard drive is falling you will get a lot of Blue screen with error or crashes. who ever told you the reason for your screen is not showing is because of the hard drive, ask them to stop doing drugs.
do as i said in the video and comments and you will have your laptop working again. NOTHING WILL last (we are not eternal) this laptops that you have G45,DV600,DV700 and many more are defective on cooling and they over heat and it will keep happening until you give up and buy a new laptop. who ever tells you otherwise its full of BS, i been doing this for over 18years and i have repaired so many DV600 motherboards. so if you want to fix you laptop do as i mentioned, and make sure use a good thermal paste, and make sure its aired from under (don't place it on sofa or bed). and it will work for another few months or so depending many factor. but if you want it to last a bit longer you need to do a REBALLING on gpu. the method i told you its a DIY so you can fix it temporarily. if you want it to last find a tecnician that know really how to do Reballing.
      good luck my friend.

I am working on the same laptop that has no post it beeps with out ram and it enters the recovery mode if I press the Windows+B and hold them before powering up but apparently I would need to have a USB floppy drive in order for it to flash the BIOS I do have a USB flasher but I could not find the BIOS chip the closest one I found was actually a power MOSFET so we're the others so I am stuck I already tried loading the BIOS via USB but it's not being read and I don't have a USB floppy drive

wait, the laptop will never post without a ram!, if you remove the ram it will always beep, so place one ram and power on and if you power on and you get the power light turns on and other led turns on but no screen! then its not your bios update or anything like that. its you GPU solder that are cracked. trust me and follow the video and you will have your laptop back! i been repairing laptop for over 18years!

@@uFixTek look I know what you mean but it does not post even with the RAM installed I just wanted to point out that it beeps without RAM which is why I am sure it's a just a BIOS issue as I have tested the RAM on a HP DV4000 Laptop and both 1GB sticks worked there I also tested known good 2GB RAM sticks from the DV4000 Laptop and it still won't post just wanted to ask if you could point me to where the BIOS chip is located at and I will be very grateful.

You didn't put it on, so we can see it worked 😀
But seriously, now the question: you said about 280°C for about 2-3min..
So far, from my experience with similar boards, that is lead free soldering, so usually i have to preheat the soldering iron to about 320-350°C so I can remove slowly some capacitors from it.
Also, with heat gun, usually to get out the bios chip have to heat it to 380°C so I can do that..
Ho ,how exactly only 280°C will be enough for VGA chip 🤔 ? Just quires...

i appreciate your support and feedback, and this worked i been repairing laptops for over 18years, im not here to waist anyone's time. and in comment people have done this and they have fixed it.
its a simple physics and temperature logic :)
its like i ask you to hold an apple for 2min and you be fine and if i tell you to hold it for 5h then that would feel like 50kilo after hours of holding.
the reason you remove the bios or caps at 380c is because you do it under 10-15sec, and those components are not delicate like the BGA chips. so going up at 380 for 10-15sec you remove.
but if you want to remove the bios or caps with less risk of damaging with over heating, remove it with 250c for 3min preheating and then 4sec at 380 it will come out. that is the proper way of doing. you don't want ever to go sudden heat to max that is very bad for the components.
now regarding the BGA , we are not removing the chip so we don't need to melt all the solder balls under, we need to only melt and re-flow the single or two balls that are detached from board. so you can preheat at 220c for 1min then or go to 280c for 2min that would be enough to melt the single solder ball that is detached. and the reason that that single detached ball melts before the rest is that the rest are connected to the board and they are transferring their heat to the board over the balls, but the detached solder has no were to pass it heat so it tends to meld before and then the gravity does the job to drop it to the board wile holding from bga chip because its hot, and as we know solder balls are attracted to where the heat is.
i hope i have explained it in short, as the expended explanation its very long.

@@uFixTek Thank for talking time to write that!
It somehow hard to believe that 250°C will make any reflow, because even the lead free soldier compound sold in the shop is rated 270-280°C
To melt it, you have to put the solder iron straight on top of it. Still, if you make even simple test : take small piece of the reel and melt it over the soldier iron tip, then apply to some pcb connector hole. It melt on 300-320°C reasonably well, and flow fast nice over the component. Now when get cold and hard try melt it with 270-280°C...
You'll struggle quite a lot, even that is free to access with heat point.
Personally, I prefer to have preheat device (similar to grill) under the board and then reflow over , or even better heater station with IR top...
Stll, from what I see so far, the industrial new solder solution have even higher melt point.
So when it is produced on the line is fine, but after that annoyingly hard to remove. And because is lead free, the joints become hard points and when the overall heat rise, the pcb bend and the points cracked...Well, maybe in that way they move the sales of new tech😁
      Thanks for he video!!

i will make a video explaining this a bit. BUT you right the proper way is with re-balling machine, we do have two in the shop and we do use then to re-fllow and re-ball , but the purpose of my videos is to help people to do it at home with a less equipment possible.
imagine me saying go buy a 2k usd BGA re-balling device :P
honestly i don't want people to follow my video where i tell them to set to 380c then they will have a higher chance of damaging the BGA, but with 280c with 3min or so honestly does the job and safer for the viewer at home to do it.
i appreciate your time and comments my friend, let me get my stuff organize and i get back at you right over here :P have a great day.

And highly appreciate videos as that one, because exactly people with some skills can build confidence and try to repair by themselves.
As for that model, i believe is no worth fixing it but unfortunately the very same issues goes with new 600$/€/£ machines..

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  3 года назад +1

heating is not a solution but its a fix, the real solution its a re-balling but 99% of the people at home don't have re-balling station or the experience to do this, im here to show them a fix that can last long time.
with the heat you are doing a RE-FLOW of the solder balls. if done properly it can even last for another year or two. i been doing this for over 20years, and if this can get people to save money and do it at home, im happy.
i appreciate the feed back my friend :)
