Clark wasn’t disrespecting Russ-he was highlighting that despite their talent, both athletes struggle to lead their teams when it matters most. Now, Russell had every opportunity to win in Oklahoma City. He had Kevin Durant and James Harden, but he wanted to carry the load himself. I’m not saying Durant left because of him 100%, but there’s definitely some truth to the idea that Westbrook’s leadership played a role. And that’s where the quarterback comparison comes in-Lamar has to lead his team in a way similar to what was expected of Russ in OKC. Russ focused more on personal stats than on making his teammates better, and that’s why OKC missed out on championships. And don’t get me wrong, Lamar is a great quarterback. I’m a Texans fan, and he’s one of the few QBs I think we can’t stop right now. He’s got a completely different personality from Russ, but they both face similar expectations to lead their teams in high-pressure situations. Also, Russ will always be a Houston Rocket in my eyes. Every time he’s in town, I try to go to the games, and I always shout something positive to him, hoping he hears it. I know he’s been through multiple knee surgeries, and that’s something Ryan could’ve highlighted instead of just focusing on the clutch factor. Lamar’s been hurt too, and that comparison between them could’ve made even more sense. At the end of the day, Ryan’s trying to be more versatile as an analyst at ESPN, so I respect him for making this comparison across sports. Was it perfect? No. But it was never meant to tear anyone down, just to make a point about their struggles in the biggest moments.

@boatedboat9191 Not the biggest Russ fan, but this guy got a point. This is what you call selective politics, Russ stat pads, but your favorite player don't? I use to dislike Russ but then I realized triple double is the most recognized stat in the NBA. If you average that no matter who you are, you're in the running for MVP. But why don't others average it, then I heard Mikal Bridges talk about how hard he tries to get it and can't. After hearing him say that I gained a lot of respect for Russ because the guy average that for 4 seasons.
So where was the slander? He basically said the Russ didn't perform well when pressure was on against Portland. He didnt say he was bad. The issue with Russ is during his supermax contract he lost some of his ability. He's still a good player but he's not what he was on OKC anymore. It happens. Russ has been a league MVP. Absolutely on point Gil, Russ and other fast point guards are sometimes so fast that they haven't mastered playing with pace and shifting gears in the game.
Westbrook just didn't "age" as gracefully as others that reached his peak. Prime Westbrook is the second coming of Jesus in almost every era pre-90s. Playing for Lakers doesn't make it any easier especially when the expectations are "prime Westbrook". You play for the Lakers and don't deliver, watch how quickly they turn on you. LeBron & AD gave them at least 1 after damn near a decade if not a decade and they're still not grateful so Westbrook never had a chance even if he played well unless it ended up in a chip.
The Second Coming of Jesus can't get out of the first round? You can miss me with that religion. When Westbrook was the best player on a team they lost in the first round. And every star he's ever played with has been more successful playing with a different point guard.
@@thomascrowniii1693 You missed the part where I said in almost "EVERY ERA PRE-90S". Secondly, Jesus is NOT a religion lol Also, in the last maybe 20yrs, only 1 PG has been the best player on their team that won a chip and that's Steph and even then people argue for most of those chips, he still wasn't the best in the finals. Again, these are some of things people don't consider when they're forming their opinions and end up holding certain guys to unrealistic standards. It's not normal for a PG to be the best player on a championship team. From 1990, how many PGs have been the best player on a championship team? Besides Steph you have to go all the way back to Magic and IT and that's 80s bro. Damn near 40 years ago.

Regular season is where it has stopped with Lamar, as it had Russ. No legacy slander and no “Russ is trash” was meant or even came across from Ryan.
Magic Johnson came before John Stockton so his numbers at the time of his retirement had him at all time assist leader and also assist per game leader which still stands to this day….
It’s crazy how other former players (gils arena lineup) talks bad about other former players (Ryan Clarke) when they talk about other players (Russel Westbrook) when they don’t agree on what was said but take no issue with talking about other players (harden, steph, KD, lebron, MJ, Rudy gobert, etc etc etc)

NBA PLAYERS SENSITIVE… it’s media criticism that’s what comes with being in the spotlight… if your play is bad or not great… they going to highlight it
I was alive and more than old enough to remember the russ mvp years. I can’t remember a single person tryna discredit him, in fact he was praised cause kd was seen as the snake and russ was the hometown hero who stuck it out. People started being more critical when it was clear that he prioritized his numbers above all else. Sometimes winning means you have to sacrifice those numbers and it means that you can’t have the ball all the time. Literally every player ever who’s won a ring had to learn to let go of the ball and rely on other guys, people are simply saying that what russ was doing was amazing but in the modern nba you can’t win with a 6’3 point guard who’s sole priority is to get his triple double and THEN if everything works out he’ll try to win the game
Ryan Clark said nothing wrong. Its obvious Russ was chasing stats in his prime years. And for him crying about fans calling him Westbrick is soft as hell. As long as they not being disrespectful its all fair game. Didn't Russ start the KD cupcake thing? He wasn't complaining when the fans was on KD about that. And Russ use to stay talking shit on the floor to other players. If u want the Westbrick chants to stop then stop shooting em.
Ryan Clarke was completely correct ✅ and it was his opinion plus he didn’t say anything disrespectful in the sports world they’re subjected to criticism anyway

I understand why media is involved in voting on awards players have 0 objectivity every single time they talk about a player they call any critique hating.
Every member of this podcast is just as critical of certain players, and make similar comparisons, as Ryan clark did. But when Gil's arena like's the player, it's unfair and ignorant. This POD alway's disses someone smh.
You're absolutely correct
They be on that couch talking about Rudy Gobert like he’s Wizards era Javale McGee 😂
And they always talk about how players should be the ones criticizing but soon as Ryan Clark does it, they take personal attacks
This podcast is a bunch of hypocrites and 🤡s and they talk ish the most about people and then think EVERYTHING they say is absolute and the law. Gtfoh with that bs!
That's their formula for them to get clicks.

Im confused on how ryan disrespected russ by comparing him to Lamar
Russ is a legend... he is the definition of hustle and hard work. The media really messed up his last few years. Think how good he was again when he started in the clippers without Harden. He needs a good fitting team to utilize his skills... I think it would be fun to watch with guy like Giannis who has a similar style...
They keep talking bout Westbrook hate it’s not hate it’s facts if he was that great the clippers would have kept him he was already signed smh I can literally do a whole highlight reel of Russ missing lay ups from the last 2 seasons and he has one of the highest turnover ratios for a point guard in the league at this point all he has going for him is his athleticism , heart and hustle which can only do som much at this point in his career and this ain’t hate it’s my honest opinion and I like Russ he’s just so erratic with the ball it’s a headache to watch sometimes especially playoff time
They got rid of RUSS because he was shittin on KL do your homework
Averaging 37 points on some random dude is diabolical 😂
Gil’s protection of California players should be studied
It's breathtaking
I don’t think Russ and Lamar being compared was disrespect …. plus what he said was true … it was a metaphor don’t get too sensitive
You ain’t winning if you ain’t winning lmao well that explains Russ to a tee
I think RC meant to make the comparison of skill to athleticism
Magic came in the league before John he was never trying to catch him
That rubber band ball analogy is the best I've seen Kmart come up with ever on this show
wtf is Gil talking about? The Westbrook shit was about losing. We seen him collect triple doubles and be unable to get out the first round after KD left. He's a hell of a rebounder but we not about to pretend some of that wasn't stat chasing. Stat chasing looks bad when you can't win.
Whaaaaat? In my russ voice.... russ in okc without kd is not the warriors without kd so it makes sense that pedigree of ball makes it far... since okc he hasn't had a team that big.

A triple double only matter if Russ not the one getting it.
If Catylin, Lebron, Luka or any other player gets one its a big deal.
Made many all-star games. His prime is over...
Lamar is Westbrook, Mahomes is Curry. It’s not hard to understand. Ryan wasn’t even dissing him.
